The right wins the presidency of Valruzia by the slimmest of margins

For the first time since the return of democracy, Valruzia's right-wingers have managed to win a state institution, after lawyer Szymona Razem won last night's presidential election as part of the “Forward Valruzia” coalition.

“Forward Valruzia”, the name given to the union of National Renewal, National Salvation and Agrarian Voice created to compete in the presidential elections, chose Szymona Razem late last year as its unity candidate, after noting that a separate turnout augured an almost certain victory for Katarzyna Roszkowska, the former Marshall of the Sejm and Sovereign Valruzia candidate, according to polls.

After a first round in which turnout stood at 76.7%, the Forward Valruzia (33.59%) and Sovereign Valruzia (26.64%) candidates advanced to the second round, while the candidate chosen by the Communist Party of Valruzia to try to fill Karolina Pietrzyk's absence for the presidency had to settle for just 19% of the vote, insufficient to advance to the next round.

Although in this first round the candidates in favor of the current government (SW, KPW and Dignity and Progress) obtained a percentage of votes higher than 50%, the second round has left these parties in shock, after official authorities announced that with 99.99% of the votes counted, Szymona Razem (Forward Valruzia) had won against Katarzyna Roszkowska (Sovereign Valruzia) with 50.09% of the votes (34,284,329 votes).

While on the right they celebrate the results - although Valruzian Alliance, which did not participate in the electoral coalition, calls for “a real conservative presidency” - in the government they are still trying to assimilate the hard blow. The drop in turnout - which in the second round was barely 68%, a considerable decrease in comparison with the first round and, above all, with the previous presidential elections - is one of the factors blamed for this result, although Sovereign Valruzia also points to the bad management of Pietrzyk's exit as another cause of the drop in turnout and, above all, of the abstention of many PKW voters who did not want to “support the Sovereign Valruzia candidate”.

"We are facing a historic moment,"

declared Ksenia Brosz, leader of National Renewal and former deputy chancellor of Valruzia.

"We have shown that this nation knows how to choose wisely, and that the citizens are not happy with this government."

However, sources close to Chancellor Szymon Nowik affirm that he "is not worried about the results."

"A presidential election cannot be transferred to a legislative election. People vote according to other logic, other patterns, and knowing what a president can and cannot do. The important thing is that just a year ago, the citizens of Valruzia gave the current government and its supporters more than 55% of the vote, and we, as a government, will continue working for the well-being of our citizens".

Some analysts also believe that the Nowik government's recent decision to halt all trade with the 3PF countries also influenced the elections, with many citizens fearing that this could affect the economy. However, the government also rejects this hypothesis, arguing that its candidate received only 100,000 fewer votes than the winner and that the decision had the desired effect, with Selucia announcing the elimination of fees on the Migrant Pass.

"I congratulate Szymona Razem on her victory in the presidential election and look forward to continuing to work with her for the future of Valruzia, continuing the legacy left by her predecessor,"

was the brief message posted on social media by Chancellor Szymon Nowik, with a mention of Karolina Pietrzyk.

Sources close to Nowik believe that most of the blame lies with the PKW, whose internal division following Karolina Pietrzyk's announcement of her cancer diagnosis has led to a loss of public confidence, especially following the Communists' decision not to nominate Sejm Marshal Tatjana Borkowska, considered to be Karolina Pietrzyk's continuation candidate.

With the election of Szymona Razem as President of Valruzia, it is almost sure that Pietrzyk's proposal at a presidential reform will be abandoned, and some sources speculate that she will use her position to attack the government and attempt to propose national referendums at any major decision by the Nowik's government.
