SANGON - In what can only be described as a major turning point in electoral politics, the oppossition "Rosa" has managed to capture a commanding majority in the Chamber of Deputies, defeating the PDP which has ruled for 8 years. Rosa leader and senator Camila Zanetti Machado celebrated with party members as she was elected to a seat in Sangon, vacating her position in the senate to become parliamentary leader for the time being. Machado is a prime candidate to become Prime Minister, with her party able to reject any appointment made by the president. Machado says that she will "fight for the common folk" when in office, using the "strong mandate" given by voters to secure reforms and changes in social policy and the creation of a fairer economy. 

Rosa has captured 90 seats, more then enough to secure a majority. The PDP, which sat at 75 last election, has lost big, winning only 32 seats. While the victory of Rosa means that left-leaning government is to lead the new republic for the first time, the sudden rise of the Social Liberals is also notable. Commentators have argued that the PDP mainly lost this many seats thanks to vote splitting, with the new LS winning over centrist and socially liberal voters that traditionally voted for the PDP. While ensuring that Rosa won at least 20 more seats thanks to vote splitting the LS also secured 16 seats of itself, becoming a powerfull presence in the new chamber of deputies. LS leader Gustavo Cabral also secured a seat in the port city of Cortes, ensuring his parliamentary leadership for the party. 

Also, in contrast to the last election, we were already able to call this years presidential race early. With nearly 78% of the vote, current Prime Minister Maurício Pires Pinho managed to win the presidency in the first round, showing his immense popularity with a large part of the electorate. Pinho also benefitted from LS not fielding their own presidential candidate, instead endorsing Pinho as Pinho is largely considered to be a social liberal himself. While his party thus suffered a immense defeat, he has managed to keep the presidency in PDP hands against all odds. Rosa candidate Santiago Martins conceded defeat in the early hours of the night, having ran a lackluster campaign and only capturing barely 15% of the vote.

President-elect Pinho has promised to first talk with Rosa leaders and attempt to strike a compromise on the composition of government. He is likely to demand certain concessions on strengthening democracy as well as seeking to prevent Machado from becoming PM, as he sees her as to radical to lead the government. He has also promised that he will not hinder Rosa's ambitions when it comes to social policies, but that he will "take the roll of the presidency very seriously and ensure that our economy and government are kept stable in this unstable world."
