Fragmented opposition forces defeat the ruling Patriotic Front of Liore, ending PFL's decades-long dominance over Liore's political system

It came in a major shock and upset for the leaders of the ruling Patriotic Front, when the first preliminary results were announced by the Federal Electoral Authority: there is no more "red" majority. Decades of the PFL rule were interrupted by a bunch of the newcomer parties completely different from one another and ideologically incoherent, to the point where it will remain unknown how and who will form the new governing coalition in this post-PFL domination reality. PFL secretary-general Hamidi Mtafya has said that these results are not "terrible", but are "rather unnacceptable" for the party leads, and has announced that there will be "homework done" to examine what has gone wrong, and how PFL can return its domination.

Following the announcement from the FEA, new elites and major political forces spoke about the first results, including a leader of the Public Interest Party, Kimathi Gathigira: "We thank the trust emplaced upon us by the public with these results. Public Interest will work with anyone who will serve the public, free of corruption. There is much work ahead for the National Assembly but I am certain that we can achieve a government that serves the public interest".

Meanwhile, Chane Tambo, leader of the Liore People's Party, who came third overall in the election, replacing United Democratic Party as the main right-of-centre political party, spoke about the results on the election night. "The obvious thing here is that there is genuine political interest in change. The ruling party is ruling no more, they don't have a majority, they'll have to work with the opposition to get things done. We are ready to work with anyone in order to make sure the people's will is respected through peace, order and good governance. Let no man or woman in the high halls of power reject today's victory of the people". LPP leader previously and on the election night spoke positively about any future cooperation with other opposition parties, including PIP, who came second, mostly benefiting from the PFL collapse.

With PFL not making up the majority of the lower chamber, and their ways to form a government being limited with the amount of anti-PFL parties represented, one would say the next government will be either a compromise between PFL and PIP or a grand big tent coalition of all opposition parties. Neither option brings optimism and certainty in stability and future of the nation, but we can only hope.
