Sovereign Valruzia-KPW agreement signed; fourth Nowik government about to start

Communists set to enter in government for the first time, sparking protests from the right

After decades of being an external support for Chancellor Nowik - and arguably, his most reliable partner - today marked an important step in the relations between Sovereign Valruzia and the Communist Party of Valruzia after both Lucjan Mirski and Szymon Nowik ratified the government agreement that will make them coalition partners, thus having communist ministers in place for the first time since pre-Morawski regime times.

The ratification of the agreement, carried out in Nowik's own office staged symbolically in front of a photograph from the 5623 protests - a not-so-subtle nod to the anti-authoritarian roots both parties share - will make Szymon Nowik Chancellor for a fourth time at the age of 46, and Lucjan Mirski will become the first communist Deputy Chancellor of Valruzia. The rest of the cabinet composition has not yet been unveiled, but it is expected that the KPW will at least receive 7 ministries, with many speculating about the Housing, Labor and Health being the top contenders.

"Everytime we've been needed we have answered the call"

said Lucjan Mirski after he stamped his signature.

"But today marks another important step for our party. We have shown the Valruzian people that we are a party that delivers results, one that can be trusted with bringing social justice to everyone who needs it, and now we will show what we are capable of by sharing this government opportunity with Sovereign Valruzia and Chancellor Nowik". 

Both parties hold 365 seats in the 601-seat Sejm following the 5645 elections, more than enough to rule with a comfortable majority. With the KPW in government, SW’s centrist-populist agenda now may tilt towards more social welfare expansion, especially in areas such as public housing, workers' protections and universal healthcare upggrades in areas such as glasses or dentists. 

The agreement between Sovereign Valruzia and the KPW has prompted angry responses from the right field, with the Forward Valruzia co-leaders calling it a "Frankenstein agreement" and a "betrayal to Nowik's own ideals". However, relations between Forward Valruzia and Sovereign Valruzia are completely broken since the impeachment of former President Szymona Razem, who now is awaiting her trial, and internal sources mention that Nowik "has no intention of listening to anything coming from the current Forward Valruzia leadership after their behaviour and handling of the Razem scandal".

has said Ksenia Brosz, leader of National Renewal and once Deputy Chancellor of Valruzia under Nowik. This criticism echoes the behind-doors worries about some moderate and conservative Sovereign Valruzia members, who worry that a close partnership with the "KPW radicalism" will alienate their more conservative supporters in the regions of Chynber and Gryfit.

However, the numbers speak otherwise: KPW has now become the only SW ally not to lose seats in the elections following an agreement with the populist party, after they supported externally the third Nowik cabinet the previous legislature. 

Now, the composition of the new cabinet is expected to be announced within days - usually Szymon Nowik has announced his ministers the day after his swearing-in, with the main question being on who will take the powerful roles of minister of Food Sovereignty, Defence and Foreign Affairs. But for many political experts, this agreement also shows something else: Nowik's era of "reconstructing a post-Morawski era Valruzia" might be coming to an end, and Sovereign Valruzia is now taking a definitive political shape that will affect their future and especially their post-Nowik history, yet to be written. As has become a tradition for Chancellor Nowik, it is expected that his first international visit once the Sejm ratifies his election will be to Kalistan, followed by its neighbours Baltusia and Tukarali, in an aim to continue strengthening the ties in Northern Seleya.

At this very moment, Nowik is having a formal meeting with acting President Tatjana Borkowska - also from the KPW - who will then announce to the Sejm his candidacy and start the machinery for his voting election tomorrow.
