TEREBBIA – With the launch of the first "Vanukamax" class container ship, AUDISS-Leonardi Cantieri Integrati writes a new chapter in naval engineering and in the maritime projection of Istalia. It is one of the largest container ships ever built, a colossal unit designed specifically to fully exploit the capacities of the renovated Grand Canal of Vanuku, the result of a strategic collaboration between Istalia and the West-Majatran country.

The new class of ships, among other things, represents a fundamental piece for the ambitious goal of the Istalian government to reduce dependence on the Migrant Pass, increasingly unstable and recently the scene of a tariff war that has had heavy repercussions on international maritime traffic. Thanks to the expansion of the Vanuku Canal and the introduction of the Vanukamax, maritime operators will be able to opt for a valid alternative for the routes to the west, increasing volumes through a trade corridor that can effectively offer a valid alternative to the equatorial routes further north.

The Vanukamax launched today is able to transport tens of thousands of TEUs more than previous generations of ships that could pass through the canal, reaching almost 14,000 TEUs. An opportunity that represents, according to many analysts, a real paradigm shift for global freight transport. Testifying to its importance is the presence of the operator Istamar, the first to use these new units on its routes, consolidating its position as a leader in the naval logistics sector.

But AUDISS-Leonardi's ambitions do not stop there. In synergy with Istamar, the group has already started the design phase of a new class of even more imposing containerships, the Post-Vanukamax. Some sources speak of ships that could break all current records in terms of capacity and size, rumoured between 18,000 and 20,000 TEU. These units will be intended to serve especially the routes to the east, in the direction of the growing economies of Dovani, with which Istalia has recently intensified relations through a network of economic and commercial agreements.

In the medium term, AUDISS-Leonardi will also be a protagonist of the “Program Sea”, promoted by the Istalian government as part of the strategic relaunch initiative of the Island of Alaria. Among the various initiatives launched within the Program, the establishment of the "Società di Navigazione Istaliana", controlled by the IMERIN group, which is expected to be the second operator of the Vanukamax and Post-Vanukamax, and which in turn will be a holding company dedicated to navigation and maritime trade that in turn will control the "SNI Missenia", named after the Missena Channel between Alaria and the continent, a company with the main objective of ensuring regular and highly efficient maritime connections between the continent and the island of Alaria, although the prospects point to making the company a leading player in the Sea of Lost Souls, reaching a high percentage of the market in the entire basin.

For Missenia, as foreseen by the outlined business plans, Leonardi will build a new generation of Fast Ro-Pax and Cruise-Ferry ferries, designed to increase traffic between the island and the continent tenfold, and not only that, speed up connections and increase tourist flow. A line of Superfast Ro-Pax ferries is also being studied to be specifically dedicated to fast traffic with Alaria.

A distinctive feature of Leonardi's new productions is the emphasis placed on sustainable innovation. All new ships, from the Vanukamax to the future ferries, are developed according to three fundamental pillars: economy of scale, energy efficiency and reduction of environmental impact. This includes the use of hybrid engines, low-impact alternative fuels, advanced route optimization systems and technological and construction solutions to reduce consumption and emissions per container transported.

With this launch, AUDISS-Leonardi not only strengthens the role of Istalia in the global shipbuilding industry, but also lays the foundations for a new season of strategic maritime centrality of the country.
