I have led in times of prosperity, in moments of great uncertainty, and with a government committed to the future. But leadership is also about knowing when to step aside. After reflection, consultation with my family and my Cabinet, and an honest conversation with myself I have decided that I will not be leading the Conservative Party into the next federal election. I will be resigning as Leader of the Conservative Party and, in due time, as Prime Minister once a new Leader is selected by our Party. Until then, I will continue to govern and serve this nation to the best of my ability. It has been the greatest honour of my life. Thank you."
