Dominika Rozek becomes new General Secretary of Sovereign Valruzia

In a very close result, current party spokesperson in the Sejm will replace Nowik at the helm of the sovereignist party

The very first primaries in more than 20 years for Sovereign Valruzia have shown a very close race between the two main candidates, Dominika Rozek and Mateusz Kadzior, with early favorite Robert Sobieraj becoming the unexpected loser of the night. The results, 40.2% for Rozek and 40% for Kadzior (with 19.8% for Sobieraj) show a very divided party that is having trouble finding the correct replacement for Chancellor Szymon Nowik. In addition, both leading figures represent two different souls within the sovereignists, with Rozek embodying the more nationalistic roots of the party and Kadzior aiming for the more populist left branch. 

With the very first step towards Nowik full retirement now completed, it will be a period where the party and the government will be directed by two different people, although Rozek has already assured that the party will be in full compliance with Nowik's demands until the next elections and the Chancellor knowing for sure that he has the full control over Sovereign Valruzia's parliamentary group.

However, things are far from easy. Kadzior has launched a campaign for a recount in the voting or at least, having a two-way primary elections, claiming that the results do not fully represent the will of the militants.

"If we ask those Sobieraj supporters, many of them will say that they would have liked me to lead Sovereign Valruzia. However, with this three way system, this reality is distorted and the party ends up election the "less controversial" candidate. I would like to formally demand a recount or, at the very least, a two-way race between Rozek and myself, where militants can truly decide and votes are not splitted".

It is unclear whether the party leadership will accept any of these demands, but Nowik's desire for a peaceful transition of power within the party he has turned into an election-winning machine might have been suddenly shattered. 

Forward Valruzia, the leaders of the opposition, have asked Nowik to "fully take a step aside" and resign from the chancellery since he "no longer controls any political party", but Nowik has called this "a bluff" and has reminded the conservative coalition that citizens gave him "more than 40% of the seats in the Sejm" and thus he fully retains the "mandate of the people" to complete this legislature.
