Government accuses opposition leader of the money laundering during his time in government

In a surprising joint press conference of the Ministry of Justice and Civil Affairs and the State Council Secretariat, leaders of two government departments came out with the announcement about the internal investigation into documents from the previous administration, which serve as the evidence of the massive money laundering scheme exercised during the premiership of Tabai Wenggot, with some members of the State Council being either directly involved or helping. One of those members, according to the heads of two government departments, is the former government's Secretary-General and the current leader of the opposition, Batu Aora.

According to the current SCS chief, Shui Meng, back in 5646, Aora helped to push and lobby for the approval of illegal contracts of the real estate companies in Niyalma and Ambagašan in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation. Aora's brother, Alin, owned at the time the Royal Diamond Group, which won several of those contracts through what government now alleges were "fraudulent bidding processes" manipulated with insider information and political pressure. "We have reasons to believe that the state funds amounting up to 102 million g'an have been laundered through accounts linked to the RDG", said justice minister and Vice Premier Sain Imutu. "Obviously, we are unable to present all the information of the investigation, but we can assure that all serious information has been delivered to the Anti-Corrution Bureau, and the criminal cases are opened".

No arrest warrants have been issued yet, but Vice Premier Imutu confirmed that leader of the opposition Aora will be summoned for quesioning by the end of this week. Meanwhile, Aora himself, speaking two hours after the press conference outside of BDA party office, has dismissed the accusations and called the investigation a "witch hunt" and a "blatant political stunt". Aora accused the government back of discreditation of the political opponents, and using the investigation to distract citizens from government's own failures. "This government is corrupt to the core and desperate to distract the public from its own failures—on inflation, on public safety, and on jobs," said Aora. "They want to silence the opposition, and now they are resorting to character assassination."
