With almost 41 million customers and a balance sheet asset of 2,800 billion lire, the new bank is ranked first in the Istalian banking system both in terms of total assets and capitalization, which will exceed 120 billion lire. According to preliminary data, CSM will control 26% of the national banking assets, thus becoming a systemic player of primary importance.
But the birth of CSM represents only the first step of a much more complex industrial plan: the creation of the Gruppo Finanziario CSM. This new holding company will lead a profound restructuring of the entire corporate perimeter, divided into six main entities:
Banca CSM, the operational heart of the domestic banking system;
CSM Fiduciaria, specialized in fiduciary and trust services;
CSM Investimenti, the group's investment bank, active in structured finance operations and capital markets;
CSM Patrimoni, dedicated to asset management and funds;
CSM Capitale, oriented towards venture capital and the financing of innovative startups;
CSM International Holding, which will lead the global expansion of the group.
CSM International Holding represents the most ambitious component of the project: the opening of branches of CSM Bank in the main markets with which Istalia has entered into economic and commercial agreements has already been announced. The CSM International Holding aims also to be active in partecipating if not controling already existing financial realities in the interested countries. The first operations will involve Dundorf, Egelion, Hutori, Badara, Baltusia and Bianje, countries considered to have high strategic potential.
Behind this impressive reorganization is Corporazioni S.p.A., a financial holding company reborn after the war and which has grown steadily over the decades, to become one of the main conglomerates in the country. Corporazioni today controls numerous industrial and financial companies, and for years has been working discreetly on the construction of the CSM hub.
Corporazioni is in turn owned by Cavallini S.a.p.A., the limited partnership of the Cavallini family, considered among the most influential in the country. A curious and symbolic historical detail accompanies this rise: the Cavallinis descend from Matteo Cavallini, brother of Empress Elisa, wife of Emperor Tommaso III of the Third Empire, who was a successful businessman creating an industrial group that continued to growth and survived the vicissitudes of time until today. After the expropriation under the Socialist Republic, the family managed to regain possession of its assets after the Patriotic War, patiently rebuilding an economic empire in the shadows but today more solid than ever.
With the birth of the CSM, Istalia gains a national banking champion with global ambitions. The challenge now will be to reconcile international growth, regulatory balance and social responsibility in an increasingly competitive economic context.
