"Giunio bis": the new government gets the confidence with a record majority

In Democracy & Freedom, out the vetoes: with the new executive liberal reforms are expected in the economy and civil rights

ROMULA - With 266 votes in favor, Valeriano Giunio today obtained the confidence of Congress for his second executive, officially opening a new political phase that promises to be both ambitious and delicate. It is the largest majority ever recorded by a political government since the foundation of the Imperial State, surpassed only by the cross-party support granted to the technical government led by Gian Maria Moretti.

As widely expected, the Minister Secretary of State presented to His Imperial Majesty a renewed and strengthened team, the result of a four-way agreement between the National Liberal Party, the Hosian Democratic Union, Democracy & Freedom and the Liberal Republican Party. The entry of D&L into the executive, after an entire legislature of intense parliamentary collaboration, marks a qualitative step in the government balance and sets a clear political direction.

"More liberal in economics, more progressive on rights", this is how the profile of the new government is summarized in the corridors of politics. And if the strong electoral decline of the UOD has reduced the specific weight of the Hosiandemocrats, this has at the same time strengthened the position of the head of government, who, according to internal sources, did not hesitate to dictate a clear line to the partners: "Every member of the executive coalition will have to accept the compromise, and no ally will be allowed to block the reform process on ideological grounds". A message unequivocally addressed to the UOD which, in the last legislature, was repeatedly accused of having slowed down the reform action with vetoes and doctrinal rigidity.

It is precisely on the double economic and social front that the cohesion of the new majority will be measured. The block formed by PNL, D&L and PRL now represents a compact and super-majority area of the coalition, ready to push towards liberalizations, privatizations and strengthening of the free market. At the same time, within the majority, the influence of those who ask to courageously address the still unresolved issues of civil rights has grown, in particular on LGBT+ and abortion, two issues that have crossed Istalian society for over a decade and that, in the last year, have exploded again with overwhelming force.

From the squares to the universities, from cultural circles to civic movements, an increasingly pressing voice has been raised, demanding answers from politics. Now Giunio has the numbers and, perhaps for the first time, also the political margin to really try. The challenge, however, has only just begun.
