Ángel Villagran and Jasinto Epigmenio Vásquez, leaders of Radical and Reform parties, respectively, in a joint public assembly, announced the creation of the electoral coalition between the two parties, and invited other opposition parties, hosian democrats and nationalists, to join the alliance, to "consolidate the anti-socialist vote" against the "raging and oppressive Metzist regime" of García, according to Epigmenio Vásquez's words during the assembly, EDG reports.
On Sunday, gathering up to 10 thousand people, as per the organisers, on the Independence Square in the nation's heart and its capital city, Gadur, leaders and representatives of the two largest opposition parties, liberal Radicals and conservative agrarian Reform, declared that the two will unite their forces for the upcoming election in eight months, under the name Compomiso por Gaduridos (Commitment for Gaduridos), with a vibrant blue colour and the green-yellow gradient vote cross as its symbol, shown from the main stage to the massive crowd in CdG.
Quote:Four years of irresponsible government, whose economic populist actions, imposed carelessly by the PM García, will only result in a massive recession, hurting everyone in Gaduridos, including the very own voters of Madam García. And that is why we're gathering here today. To say loud and clear: enough! Enough of chaos, enough of crazy ideas that will bankrupt our nation. We need a strong and stable government that cares for both the people and the businesses. Our announcement today is a commitment to you, the people of Gaduridos. We are committed to being there for you in the hardest times of your lives and supporting you. Not simply throw money at you, thinking it will solve the problem. Our government will be the one to solve the core of the problem, not its cosmetic issues. That is our commitment.
Villagran, leader of the opposition and leader of the Radical Party, who will most likely lead the CxG list in 5658, had a quite intense speech, in a surprisingly conservative, hard right way, compared to his predecessors, in what some experts consider a move to win over PSL and PNG voters, accusing PSSG government of being "socialist", using old red scare tactics. EDG asked PSSG leaders to comment on the Villagran speech, but we received no answer. However, the PSSG spokesperson, Sesiya Pacheco, later wrote on social media: "It is sad to see neoliberal leaders lose their touch with the people of this country. If caring for the Gaduri people is socialism, then so be it. I am a proud socialist".
According to the latest opinion polls by various pollsters, then-hypothetical alliance of Radicals and Reform was polling at about the same levels as the two parties running separately, though the consolidation of the vote would result in more seats for the opposition. And yet, PSSG has been polling stable at almost 45% of the vote for months now, with most, if not all, pundits being certain about yet another social democrat quinquenio (five-year term, outlined in the Constitution).
