New Agricultural Bill: The government announces a series of subsidies for farmers and the establishment of the Agricultural Bank and Authority

A new bill has been introduced by the new coalition government and was passed with the support of the majority of parties in Parliament. The political parties were called to vote on a proposal by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Rural Development, which includes the establishment of an independent Agricultural Bank in each region and the initiation of a series of new subsidies from the Agricultural Development Fund under the Ministry of Finance, aimed at supporting farmers.
More specifically, the newly founded Agricultural Bank will have the ability to provide low-interest loans and subsidies to farmers across the country, regardless of citizenship. Farmers will be able to apply for the subsidy program via the digital platform www.AAK.ka (Agricultural Authority of Kalopia), by declaring their land plots and submitting a full description of their cultivation, along with supporting documentation.
Additionally, farmers will be able to visit KEA (Farmer Service Centers) , one in each regional unit,where specialized agricultural advisors will be available to assist with subsidy applications and address other agricultural concerns.
Regarding the subsidy amounts, the government announced the following:
Small producers (0 -1 Hectares) Will receive an annual subsidy of 1,500 WAN plus a 1,000 WAN sustainability bonus, for a total of 2,500 WAN. Medium producers (1 - 5 Hectares) will be eligible for a subsidy of 3,000 WAN plus a 1,500 WAN technology upgrade bonus, totaling 4,500 WAN and large producers (5+ hectares) will receive a base subsidy of 3,000 WAN, along with immediate access to interest free loans and a 70% subsidy on agricultural machinery. Moreover, producers of olives, figs, oranges and grapes will receive between 5,000 WAN and 9,000 WAN, depending on the area of cultivation. Finally, the Ministry will provide marketing support to companies producing PDO with a one time grant of 2,000 WAN.
