In the first government conference of the new year, the Ministry of Sports has officially announced the launch of the Valruzian Victory Games, a brand new nationwide competition that will see the country's five Voivodeships face off in a month-long display of athleticism and pride, set to be celebrated every two years.
Prepared to begin in June 5662, the Games will feature more than 30 disciplines, ranging from sports like athletics, swimming, martial arts and wrestling, to team sports such as football, basketball or water polo. The event is being promoted not only as a celebration of sport, but as a symbol of national unity blended with regional identity, and as a way to promote "a healthy lifestyle for younger generations". Not only physical sports will be played though, as the Ministry has announced that other disciplines such as philosophical debate and poem writing will also be included among the main events.
Under the motto "Sport and Homeland", the Games will blend with the main sporting calendar of the different competitions in Valruzia, where each Voivodeship – Chynberg, Gryfit, Kampania, Ruzia, and Valusia – will send a team composed of elite athletes, selected through regional qualifiers held throughout the winter. The government has emphasized that the event will be "fully public", with free access to all major venues and extensive live coverage on TVW1 and other national and regional broadcasters.
In addition to athletic events, the Victory Games will also include cultural showdowns, such as regional cuisine exhibitions, folklore dance-offs and musical performances from national and international singers and groups, with discussions undergoing with artists from nations such as Kalistan or Luthori. After the competition ends, the overall winning Voivodeship will receive the Victory Flame, a ceremonial torch to be displayed at its capital’s main square for the entire following year. The initiative has already been embraced with enthusiasm by some regional governments, particularly in Gryfit and Chynberg, who see it as an opportunity to boost regional visibility and showcase their local wonders. The event is also expected to boost national tourism.
As such, preparations are already underway. The opening ceremony will take place in Brzansk, capital of Ruzia, with Chancellor Iwan Nowik and Marshall of the Sejm Maja Pajak expected to attend.
Quote:"Valruzian citizens are trained since a very young age in a wide variety of sports. I'd say we are among Terra's fittest nations, without a doubt. But not only that, since our children are taught in schools since a very young age about philosophy and literature. This Games are just another step towards promoting and rewarding excellence, as we believe that a strong body must be matched by a sharp mind"
Chancellor Nowik himself, a three-times Valruzian, two-times Seleyan and once-winner of the judo Championships, hails the event as another opportunity for star athletes to shine, and believes that this will only move towards building a "sense of collective pride and purpose", hinting that the Games could serve as a platform for spotting future talents not only for international competition but also for educational and civic leadership programs the government plans to launch in the coming years.
