Elections 5663|Center-Left triumphs: Alliance for Change sweeps Congress

As widely predicted by polls and political analysts, the legislative elections for the 11th National Congress of the Imperial State of Istalia marked a clear victory for the center-left, which regained an absolute majority in Congress after nearly fifteen years of opposition.

The election campaign was dominated by the cohesion and dynamism of the Alliance for Change, the traditional coalition of the Democratic Socialist Party, the Green Movement, and the New Communists, which mobilized the streets with a new brand and bold promises. Programmatic unity, recognized leadership, and strong popular support characterized an almost one-sided campaign. By contrast, the center-right front was divided and weakened by the recent government crisis.

The Democratic Socialist Party (PSD), led by Secretary Fabrizio Moccia, emerged from the polls as the country's leading political force, winning 181 civilian and military seats. It was followed by the Green Movement, which obtained 79 seats, setting a new all-time record, gaining even 8 seats among the military, and then the New Communists with 48 seats. The coalition thus reached 308 seats, just shy of the two-thirds threshold.

On the other side, the center-right suffered a collapse. The Union of Hosian Democrats was the sole exception, even increasing its representation to 37 seats, especially among the military. The National Liberal Party, despite having almost halved its number of seats, remains the largest center-right party with 117 votes, partially revitalized by a narrative that portrayed it as a victim of its former allies. In this context, former Minister and Secretary of State Valeriano Giunio, despite also resigning from the party leadership, actively participated in the campaign, aware of the impending defeat but determined to limit the damage and target those responsible for the government's collapse, reasserting "who's in charge" in the center-right. And he appears to have succeeded.

The liberal forces suffered a severe defeat: Democray & Freedom lost 9 seats, stopping at 8, indeed saved by the military support, while the Liberal Republican Party obtained only a single seat, just for Angelino Parenti (Secretary of the PRL), who won the single-member seat in his decades-long stronghold, Rezzonico (province of Gelamia), his hometown. Four independents were elected, three of whom, for the first time, from the military ranks, exponents of several civic-popular movements and associations.

Center-left coalition gets the majority with 308 seats.

In the heart of election night, before a cheering crowd in the Congress Hall of the Regia Romula Hotel in Romula, electoral headquarters of the Alliance of Change, Fabrizio Moccia, Secretary of the Democratic Socialist Party and the main architect of the success of the Alliance for Change, flanked by Beatrice Lanza and Marcella Bigazzi, leaders of the Greens and the New Communists, gave a vibrant speech that sounded like a government program and a call for national mobilization:

Today is the beginning of a new era for Istalia. An era of progress, of inclusiveness, of a State that does not retreat, but walks alongside its citizens, listening to them, supporting them, and protecting them.

It is the dawn of a new Istalia ly for workers, the true driving force of this nation. They now deserve a Workers' Statute worthy of the name, one that protects them, imposes fair and shared rules, and guarantees everyone the right to support their families, to go to bed at night without fear, but with certainty, security, and dignity.

The Istalia we want to build does not look to sterile GDP numbers as the sole measure of well-being. We want to measure the quality of life, the health of families, access to rights, education, stable employment, housing, and culture, but also inclusiveness, social solidarity and community cohesion.

We will fight every inequality, every discrimination based on gender, orientation and background. Istalia must become the home of social justice and substantive, not just formal, equality.

We will be on the front lines of environmental defense and climate justice, because our commitment to the ecosystem does not end at national borders: we need a new ecological internationalism. We will promote agreements and treaties that go beyond profit, but that build a truly global community of solidarity.

Istalia will once again be a beacon of freedom and tolerance, but now it will also become the homeland of solidarity, participation, and real opportunities for all.

This is the promise, this is the mission. And we are ready to fulfill it, with the people and for the people, in the name of social justice, rights, equal opportunities, and truly shared prosperity!

With the Alliance for Change firmly at the helm of Congress, and the PSD in a dominant position, a radically different political phase is dawning. For now, we await the start of consultations, but it is virtually certain that it will not be long before the Emperor will summon Moccia to Quattroregni Palace to task him with forming the new government. Expectations are high, as are the promises made. It will now be up to the new majority to transform the wave of consensus into concrete reforms.
