Presidential elections of 5667 – Democratic Republic of Tukarali

After months of political debate and social tension, the citizens of Tukarali went to the polls to elect the new president of the Republic. The election was marked by a wide variety of candidates representing the country's diverse political movements.

It took a second round to determine the winner.

The now former president, Artur Machado, said he would not run again, opening the door for other candidates, notably the favourite Francisco Gomes da Costa of the NPF, who came first in the first round with 34% of the votes. Helena Duarte of the SDP came in second with 25%, making a second round necessary, in which Gomes da Costa confirmed his victory with 54% of the votes against 46% for Helena Duarte.
The National Patriotic Front continues on its way to becoming the dominant political force in Tukarali, once again defeating the opposition of the SPD and LDP.

Gomes da Costa's first words as President-elect

Quote:‘The people of Tukarali have spoken loud and clear. Today, it is not just one party that has won, but a nation united for its future. I will be the President of all Tukaralians, and I will work for the progress, security and greatness of our homeland. Tukarali is ready to face tomorrow with courage and determination.’

Prime Minister Raul Salazar stated that Gomes da Costa's victory strengthens the path initiated by the government and guarantees ‘a period of stability and political discipline.’
In the opposition, Helena Duarte accepted the results but promised to be the ‘strong voice of the opposition’ against policies that undermine social justice.
