Sitting government thwarts coup attempt in Wiel

Just before 4 PM local time soldiers appeared on the Plaza of the Blood Revolution, storming the People's Council building.

Government forces have thwarted a coup attempt in the capital of the WJZR. Wiel became the scene of a violent display, as military forces stormed the Plaza of the Bloodless Revolution in the government district and stormed the building of the People's Council. Government officials claim they attempted to seize parliament and arrest Secretary-General Gerl Bozujigumo. However, Bozujigumo was able to leave the premises shortly before the soldiers stormed the People's Council. The group responsible for the coup attempt is the collection of Worldburnerist hardliners that operate under the Special Committee for National Salvation name. This committee has several influential party members in its midst, even the grandson of the first Secretary-General who was by many considered the founder of the WJZR after the Bloodless Revolution. The people involved with the coup were able to seize the People's Council, including its broadcasting abilities. Through this a short statement was released on behalf of the Politburo, though all members bar one of the Politburo had vacated the area fifteen minutes prior. The message stated that all changed recently made would be reversed and that the new Politburo would address the nation later that day. This never came to fruition as government aligned forces surrounded the government quarter of Wiel. In an address shortly after the coup was thwarted Bozujigumo personally thanked General Merlkai Anzlék-Zahr of the air forces, who after a personal call from a mutual friend of the Secretary-General scrambled all available jets and attack helicopters to dominate the airspace above the nation's capital.

Most individuals involved with the Special Committee for National Salvation have been arrested by the massing of forces that surrounded the government quarter. The leading figures, like Jishák Hukrskez'lkjo, were arrested on the spot. There are currently two reports of senior party figures having committed suicide instead of facing an arrest. Secretary-General Bozujigumo has requested every inhabitant of the nation to remain calm and has reiterated his commitment to the previous pledges he made. The borders will remain open, any made deals will remain standing. The Secretary-General also attempted to seize the moment by talking about reforming the WJZR into a "newer and stronger Soviet Republic", though this was not taken kindly by the people that came out to support the thwarting of the coup. Many in the public seem to associate the coup and recent troubles with the WJZR. While Bozujigumo seems hard-pressed to continue his path of reformation public opinion is quickly swaying against it. Several mayors of city states and even one Regional Chairman (the Worldburnerist variant of a state governor) spoke openly against a continuation of the WJZR. For now peace has returned to the nation, but stability has not returned.
