Luthori’s Foreign Secretary “Welcomes” Dorvik-Luthori Bilateral Discussions.

Discussions have been announced by the Dorvish press between the Dorvish and Luthorian Governments. Amid the current government’s pivot towards Artania in its foreign policy, mostly enlightened by discussions with Dundorf to loosen travel restrictions between the two states and the implementation of an education cooperation program between the two Artanian powers. Secretary of State for International Commerce, Jim Holson commented about the discussions that ‘Luthori and Dorvik engaged in discussions about limited expanded trade in areas that are going to be discussed upon between me and the Dorvish Trade Commissioner, we eagerly await rekindling our trade relationship between our two nations and we hope that both of our delegations could come to a reasonable and fair agreement on the matter’.

Luthorian-Dorvish trade have seen a sharp decline in the context of a general decline in Luthori-Artania trade relations in comparison to the other continents, although Luthorian trade declined over the course of a century, with other nations taking more importance in terms of global trade compared to other states whom influence in the global market share has only continued to rise over the last decades (ie: Egelion). It has been observed that the global market share has recently been thoroughly dominated by rising superstars such as Xsampa, Egelion, Kalistan, Lodamun at the expense of the traditional Western powers such as Beiteynu, Narikaton and Darnussia or Luthori. Reasons can be wary but one key reason as to why Western trade began to decline significantly is the decline of Yeudi trading routes and commercial influence that has helped grow Western commerce with it, with Yeudi shipping in decline worldwide due to the destruction of the State of Beiteynu following the Red Bass War.

The visit from the Dorvish Trade Commissioner in Luthori created hope that momentum for a future trade deal between the two would be created by this visit. “We are certainly hoping to hear about Dorvik’s proposal about trade and will, of course, bring our own proposals and concerns with such agreements.”, Trade Secretary Holson announced during an interview with the Financial Inquirer that under his leadership, Luthori wouldn’t sign any trade agreements that went “against our interest and most importantly against the interests of the group concerned by the trade agreement”, once stating that “we made a promise to the Luthorian electorate, we will not sign any deal that disadvantage our farmers, industries in favour of foreign competitors”, while the Government aims at keeping this promise, business leaders have called up the Government, with the Luthorian Employers Association (LEA) describing the decline of Luthorian trade as the “key” reason of Luthorian economic decline and called upon the Trade Secretary to “reconsider” his stance to allow for greater freedoms in a future trade relation.

“It is unclear whether or not bilateral talks between the Luthorian Empire and the Kingdom of Dorvik will actually produce anything meaningful for both countries’ economies and trade relationship, both having been in decline for decades. It would be a welcomed development if any trade agreement gets signed between Luthori and Dorvik, as currently Luthori’s trade relationships in Artanian remains mostly limited to both Dundorf and Narikaton and Darnussia, with the latter having a formal trade agreement with Luthori, since Kundrati became no-go zone.”, said Dr. John von Clauwitz (Dundorfian-Luthorian) when asked about the possibility and necessity of a trade agreement between Dorvik and Luthori in the current economic environment surrounding the Luthorian economy.

Reports of a possible trade agreement have also seen a lot of support across party lines. Conservative and Opposition Leader Hawkins reportedly said to the Prime Minister that a trade agreement was “needed” and that the Tories would “support anything that both answered Luthorian economic needs and didn’t betray the [Luthorian] people”.
