PORTO SAN FILIPPO - In little more than a generation, the Solocasie Islands, a small archipelago nestled off the northwestern coast of Alaria, have become one of the most renowned and exclusive Istalia's tourism site. With the launch of the "Mare Program" over thirty years ago, the conversion of the old Porto San Filippo naval base into a fully equipped civilian port paved the way for regular connections to the coast and the gradual opening of the islands to tourism. Large portions of the archipelago were designated as nature reserves, protecting unique ecosystems, while at the same time, spaces were designated for targeted, high-quality tourism development.

The decisive leap came with the multimillion-dollar investment by GFCAB, the Imperial Family's holding company, in Setelana Island, the largest of the archipelago. Here, in a previously largely uninhabited coastal area, the "Porto Aureo project" was born. It developed around a small marina where it was created a Yacht Club and quickly transformed into a sophisticated town. One of the project's main promoters and supervisors was Grand Prince Paolo, brother of Alessandro V, who closely monitored the site's growth.

In just fifteen years, "Porto Aureo" established itself as a must-see destination for the Istalian jet set: the round piazza, laid out like an amphitheater, became the beating heart of social life, surrounded by picturesque streets and organically shaped buildings that blend harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. The waterfront is dominated by the windows of high-fashion shops while the elegant Hotel Cala dei Rondoni, which also features an exclusive casino, dominates the village from the hills.

Porto Aureo's pull was quick to manifest: Porto San Filippo, the gateway to the archipelago, quickly transformed into a vibrant tourist hub, with new hotels and services now extending along the coast and into the hinterland. Three years ago, furthermore, the construction of an airport in the outskirt of Porto San Filippo began and it is expected to open within five months and to contribute to a further leap for the turism in the area.

The GFCAB has not limited its scope to the coastline. In the heart of Setelana Island, near the picturesque Valle Colata, the "Experience Hotel L'Agrifogliere" opened: a luxury resort with low-rise white and blue buildings, harmoniously integrated into the pristine natural setting. From here, visitors can admire both the vast holly forest overlooking the valley and the northern coast, dotted with coves and cliffs of rare beauty.

Today, the Solocasie Islands represent a perfect combination of environmental protection and economic development: a laboratory of high-end sustainable tourism, capable of enhancing the landscape without distorting it, positioning the archipelago as a top destination in the area.
