Last month the last action of Kooi-Oppensteiner was to break the damn around the “Clenonberggate.” After his subsequent resignation the former VVP chairman and President sent the dominant right-wing party into political limbo desperately searching for a new head figure to lead the party into these volatile times, it appears that the usually well prepared party has failed to build personnel in the background and now had a wild competitive internal election on its party conference. The delegates of the VVP have voted the longtime Senator Helmut Frank from Darnussia into the conservative pole position if one could call this probably very challenging position. Frank is known to be a rather traditional VVP politician, he has steered clear of most controversies during his time in the legislature, but what makes him rather unpopular is his stance on Federalization, he was one of the conservatives which initially hindered former president Siske Ossel on achieving any progress on this matter. Other than that he is remarkably unremarkable. Political Pundits analyzed that this might be a rather bold move from the leading right-wing party considering that in this unique situation you’d need an equally unique individual to navigate it successfully. In any case, it now seems to be a certainty that Helmut Frank is going to face the Democratic Republican Annemarieke Schuhbeck.
The DRP challenger hails from Red Stad and is part of the “Hammer” faction of the centrist party, meaning she leans toward less economic liberalism and does not categorically reject interventionist policy which is almost communist for Bannerhafen standards. She comes from the art-scene and made a career as a painter before joining the DRP in its federalization mobilizing campaign. She has until now been a senior officer a centrist controlled ministry and has some experience. The campaigns are heating up and we’re excited to see how the candidates will fare in the coming months.
