The Grand Canal in Wrnuke, the recent renovator Istalia may lose access with new stipulations demanded by Wiel.
22 March 5680, Wiel, Kingdom of Wrnuke
After the ambassador of Xsampa heeded the summons issued by King Temrkai VII talks proceeded in Wiel between the ambassador and the three senior members of the cabinet, Prefect Duchess Anzlék-Zahr, Minister of Foreign Affairs Z'nstro and Minister of Finance Trmékez. After a three hour meeting the Xsampan ambassador left abruptly and refused to speak to the press, acting clearly agitated. A short moment later Minister Z'nstro announced that the discourse between the two nations had stalled: "Xsampa has shown a deep unwillingness to reconsider their blatant colonialism of Majatra, as such the Kingdom is forced to sever ties and enact the previously discussed sanctions." In a late session of the Grand Council the sanctions package was accepted with a 2/3rd majority the Worldburnerists voted against and the Ztarmojad (Scourge) far-right movement were absent from the session.
The stalling of talks between Xsampa and Wrnuke has international consequences too. The Jez Knga (Grand Canal) of Wrnuke has long formed the entryway from Dovani into the Majatran Sea and is for many nations a vital part of their trade route as it avoids using the Migrant's Pass or having to circumvent all the way down south near the Antarctic circle. The canal is currently state-owned and was renovated between 5641 and 5650 through Istalian investments. That same nation may now lose access as they recently accepted the results of the Shar-Mearvi Conference. Prefect Duchess Anzlék-Zahr announced that all nations cooperating and refusing to condemn Xsampan colonialism will also be refused access to the Grand Canal. Wiel has begun negotiating with nations still requesting access, one of these is Egelion which was met with some scepticism by the opposition as they only recently signed a deal with Xsampa. Minister Trmékez however has stated the thawing of relations between Xsampa and Egelion does not mean they approve of colonialism: "Egelion is very committed to the same ideals we are, that Majatra must be free from the rivers to the sea. We are expecting them to comment on the situation soon enough, the talks we had with their ambassador proceeded exceedingly well."
The closure of the Grand Canal to 'Xsampa and allies' means that in the comprehensive list of sanctioned nations former ally Narikaton and Darnussia also appears. Public opinion has swung against the Triad after their government announced a new alliance with Luthori. The Artanian decrepit former colonial power has always been a thorn in the side of the Jelbic Kingdom due to their insistence on colonising Beiteynu. Several Yeudish shipping companies were added to the list as well, with the government stating that collaboration with colonial regimes is unacceptable. All nations that have not formally condemned Xsampan colonialism have been blocked from using the Grand Canal, however the government stated that all are welcome to contact their Jelbic ambassadors to negotiate and that all sanctions are lifted as soon as a condemnation is published.
