The DSDP Wins the 5738 Federal Election

DUNBURG - After eight years in opposition, the DSDP and the center-left coalition (commonly known as Red Bloc) have won back power in a election set to mark an important milestone of Dundorfian politics. This is because of two reasons: in the center-right, for the first time in centuries, the NDZP arrived second to the KBP, which experienced a surge in support thanks to the popularity of its leader, Interior Minister Bernard Glück, who oversaw the response to the Dunburg Attack. Additionally, the DSDP was led to victory by a non-politician, Egon Moltenhauer, a very first time that a major party wins power thanks to an outsider star. This election marks also the official departure, from Dundorfian politics, of the Pirate Party, which did not contest the election in any state, and has set out plans for official disbandment by December 5739.

Now, President von Schirach will explore his options and will likely appoint Mr. Moltenhauer as the Chancellor-designated, who, despite his business and corporate background, has said he wants 'very much' to preserve an alliance with the hard-left DRF. It's not clear at this stage if the Democratic-Socialists feel the same about Mr. Moltenhauer. In one of the first comments following his victory, the DSDP leader has praised Chancellor Felder, Minister Glück for their 'firm' response to terrorism and vowed to continue to vigilate against this threat, and confirming a potential government led by him would not block the proposed reform of the Federal States.

The reason KBP overtook NDZP in this election wasn't one of policy, rather, the reason is to be found in the personal popularity of party leaders: Bernard Glück and Chancellor Felder became very popular in the aftermath of the attack, but the Chancellor lost some of that popularity as other issues emerged. This is why while all government members remained popular throughout the terrorist attack, today they have lost support. The public opinion moved over to other issues, such as the economy and welfare, which are winning issues for the DSDP and its allies. The KBP, thanks to its leadership, seems to have poached NDZP and TLD voters, but not enough of them to prevent a Red Bloc victory.

Chancellor’s Office, October 27, 5738 (backdated): ODERVELD – LEUCHTFEUER asked Chancellor Hermann Felder if he thought his party, Neue Dundorfische Zentrumspartei (NDZP), would be part of a Centrist governing coalition in the wake of the most recent elections.  Felder replied:
 

I rather think not. Believe we are currently in an era when a Blue Bloc or a Red Bloc wins and governs.  President Friedrich von Schirach is calling on Dundorf Sozialdemokratsiche Partei (DSDP) Leader Moltenhauer which won the most seats in the Bundestag to see if DSDP can put together a Bundeskabinett.  Every reason it can from the Center – Left.
 
Even if the DSDP was inclined to work with a Blue Bloc party, the sentiment would be toward including the Konservative Bundespartei (KBP) which came in second in seats in the Bundestag and topped all other Blue Bloc parties.
 
NDZP will not be rebranding but working instead on its ground game with its constituency.  NDZP will be selecting some new leadership though. I led NDZP to a defeat and am not the one to be heading recovery efforts.

DUNBURG - Egon Moltenhauer has won a vote in the Bundestag formally investing him as the new Federal Chancellor, backed by the Green Party and the DRF. He received 328 votes out of 626 present (four absent due to health issues), meaning that all the members of the three parties backing him did end up voting for him in this ballot. He becomes the first outsider in a long time to form the Federal Cabinet and has announced that his priority will be to approve the new reform creating two new Federal States, picking up a key reform of the previous Felder government.

In the meantime, rumours are swirling in Dunburg that the political system might soon get upended by the creation of new alternative parties, or new leaderships for the existing parties, that might lead to some interesting political changes in the future. When asked on this, no one of the members of Bundestag we interviewed decided to respond, even when offered conditions of anonymity, preferring to maintain this matter reserved.

Reform Creating Two New States is Approved

DUNBURG - A reform planned since the last government was in office, to create an additional two states, has been approved by the Dundorfian Bundestag after four readings and with a wide crossover super-majority. The reform was first proposed by former Interior Minister and KBP Leader Bernard Glück in 5737, when preliminary census results showed Oderveld as the largest state of the nation by far. The reasoning to create two new additional states by carving up the state of Oderveld was that by doing so, there would be effectively three state governments taking care of three different area: Oderveld to control the valley and plain areas to the west of Dunburg, the city-state of Dunburg to govern itself and a brand new state, Muzelstein, to control the highlands and mountainous areas to the east.

That reform received wide approval from NDZP, TLD and KBP, the original proposers, joined by DSDP and GPP, while the DRF left 'freedom of choice' on this matter, arguing that two new states mean more expenses. Now that the reform has been approved, the Federal Geographical Institute will begin applying the new borders and the State of Oderveld will begin a transitional period in which will faciltate the creation of the new sub-national structures, so that by next year, the new States are fully functional.

The people of Dunburg and Muzelstein reacted mostly positevely to the news, many noting that the current centralized Oderveld government was predominantly led by a suburban, western elite, which in their view struggled to respond to either Dunburg's urban problems or Muzelstein's rural ones. According to a poll, 78% of the population supports this reform, with highs of 84% and 90% in Dunburg and Muzelstein respectively.

DRF DISBANDS

Dunburg, April 27, 5740: Dundorfische Rote Front (DRF) held a meeting of its Leadership Committee, after which the DRF’s First Secretary Gerda Kempf spoke to ODERVELD – LEUCHTFEUER. The former Defence Minister stated:
 

The DRF has generally had two factions. Indeed for a while we had a breakaway faction that did however return. One has felt that the party should stick to Metzist  principles in its dealings with other parties and proposing and supporting legislation as well as its willingness to deal with other nations. Rigidly and always.
 
The other has felt there will be no Terra wide Revolution in our lifetime and the Bundsrepublik seems immune to revolutionary fervor as well; accordingly, Metzists should work for protecting the benefits and rights of the workers of Dundorf cooperating with other parties to get things done.
 
The two factions have tried to live together amicably but with new parties being formed that mirror the preferences of our actual members, there really seems no reason to continue as a party. Accordingly, the DRF is disbanding. 
 
We do realize this may mean it will be difficult if not impossible for the Federal Chancellor to hold a majority of the Bundestag.  And we did consider this.  But finally keeping a Bundeskabinett in power for a little while longer did not seem to us sufficient reason for our members and constituents to delay finding a new political home.
 
A skeleton staff and I will shut down our headquarters and our operations in an orderly manner in the next couple of weeks.

NDZP EXPECTS LEFT LEANING GOVERNMENT TO CONTINUE

Dunburg, July 27, 5740: ODERVELD – LEUCHTFEUER asked NDZP Treasurer Karlotte Stumpff what lessons Neue Dundorfische Zentrumspartei (NDZP) was likely to draw from its failed run in the recent election for Federal President, and she replied:
 

Well first on behalf of NDZP, I congratulate Federal President Fabricius on his victory.
 
As you may know I was the NDZP candidate for Vice President, and we were rather happy to see we made the runoff. However, the second round demonstrated the trend left that brought an end to the Felder Administration has become more pronounced.
 
We do feel we performed sufficiently well that at this point dropping below the threshold for participation in the Bundestag does not really appear to be very likely.  However, it does seem that the electorate may well have left us behind. 
 
We are who we are and have been for a long time, and we are comfortable representing who and what we are and taking the electoral consequences.
 
And it does  look like an election is likely soon to put my guesswork to the test.

Government Loses Confidence Vote, President and Chancellor Agree on October Snap Election

With the dissolution of DRF, the Moltenhauer Government has lost the confidence of the Bundestag.

DUNBURG - Chancellor Egon Moltenhauer has lost a vote of confidence in the Bundestag, which he himself requested after the DRF dissoluted and a breakaway faction of it created the KPD, Communist Party of Dundorf. The government, composed by DSDP, GPP and DRF, enjoyed a majority of 328 members in the Bundestag, 94 of which were belonging to the DRF. After the dissolution, 37 members decided to join the KPD, meaning that technically the Government had lost the majority, prompting the Chancellor to request a vote of confidence in his government, saying:

We will either continue to govern with a majority in this Bundestag, or face the Dundorfian voters once again in a early election, if necessary.

As it turns out, a early election is now necessary. Moltenhauer formally submitted his resignation to newly-elected Federal President Fabricius, with whom he agreed that the best date to hold a new election is in October, allowing for a two-months-long campaign. Until a new Bundestag is elected and a new government is formed, Mr. Moltenhauer will remain in charge as the outgoing Chancellor, alongside his cabinet.

NEW FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SEATED AS DUNDORFS POLITICAL LEFT SECURES SUPERMAJORITY

DUNBURG — A new legislative term has officially begun in Dundorf following the certification of the Bundestag election results and the swift formation of a left-led coalition government.

Bundestag Election Results
The election concluded with a decisive victory for the center-left, as Dundorfs Sozialdemokratische Partei (DSDP) secured a commanding plurality of the vote. The full parliamentary distribution of the 630 seats in the newly elected Bundestag is as follows:

Coalition Negotiations and Cabinet Structure
Following intense negotiations, a left-wing grand coalition, led by the broader Vereinigte Linke alliance banner has been sworn into office. The three-party cabinet comprises the Social Democratic DSDP, the Grüne Partei für den Planeten, and the newly established Left-conservative Bündnis Zukunft Dundorf (BZD), commanding a majority of 371 seats. The government's majority is further reinforced by the Kommunistische Partei Dundorfs (KPD), which officially joined the Vereinigte Linke alliance post-election to provide formal confidence and supply, pushing total government legislative support to a 427-seat supermajority.

Egon Moltenhauer (DSDP) has been officially confirmed as the new Bundeskanzler by the Bundespräsident. While the DSDP retains key portfolios including Foreign Affairs, Defence, Health, and Trade, the cabinet distribution reflects significant compromises made to its coalition partners. The Grüne Partei successfully claimed the highly influential Ministry of Finance alongside the Ministries of Environment, Agriculture, and Science. Meanwhile, the BZD secured the portfolios of Internal Affairs, Justice, and Education.

Legislative Mandate
The new government has agreed upon a strict foundational policy agenda that all coalition partners agreed to support. Key legislative priorities include the comprehensive nationalization of the nation’s healthcare and education systems—while maintaining provisions for a limited number of private providers—alongside the introduction of moderate industrial pollution controls, the official recognition of climate change as a critical national problem, and a targeted, minor constitutional reform framework.

Following the formal conclusion of cabinet negotiations, Bundespräsident Robert Fabricius (GRÜN!) issued an official statement regarding the democratic transition:

It is clear that Herr Moltenhauer and the DSDP, as demonstrated through a strong plurality, have a renewed mandate to lead the formation of a new Bundesregierung. I trust he will, in this process, ensure that the new government can count on a stable and fruitful cooperation with the Bundestag that faithfully represents the result of the election.

With the new government officially seated and a sweeping legislative supermajority, the Moltenhauer Cabinet is expected to put their major healthcare and educational nationalization bills to the Bundestag floor very soon.

First Party Congress of the KPD; The status quo remains as Hannes Wehner remains General-Secretary.

With the 5740 elections providing a mandate for the centre left to continue governing in Dundorf, the formal dissolution of the DRF presented an opportunity for the socialist left in Dundorf after the KPD splintered off in January of last year. With many expecting the KPD (Communist Party of Dundorf) to narrowly fail to cross the 5% threshold, it was expected that the spotlight would continue to shine in the Dundorfian Social Democratic Party (DSDP) for the wider left. However, last October broke that expectation as the KPD not only managed to cross the 5% threshold, but surpass with nearly 8.9% of the vote, entering the Bundestag with 56 seats. 

While political analysts have been debating the implications of this, the KPD itself has been quite celebratory for making nearly 9% of the Bundestag. As such, for its First Party Congress, the mood was nothing short of celebratory. Hannes Wehner, who was elected General-Secretary of the KPD during it's foundation was quickly re-elected as General-Secretary and reaffirmed that the KPD looks to stand as a vehicle for the working class to organize against capitalism, and that the KPD is fundamentally, an anti-capitalist, workers party first and foremost. Despite many expected a communist party to be utterly hostile to other political parties, the KPD has shown support for the Vereinigte Linke (United Left) political alliance, which so happens to include the left conservative Alliance for the Future of Dundorf (BZD), and the DSDP. Combine that with the KPD voting in favour for the establishment of the Moltenhauer Kabinett, and endorsing Robert Fabricius (GRÜN) in the Presidential Elections, and the KPD has shown that it is willing to give tactile support to other left wing groups, instead of devolving into sectarianism. With Wehner being re-elected, this is likely to stay as the centre of the KPD (often called the Conciliator wing) remains dominant.

Overall, the Party Congress focused on reaffirming the KPDs mission, and how it'll conduct itself in relation to the wider Dundorfian Left, and the ultimate goal of overcoming capitalism. While the KPD remains in opposition, the fact that it was able to surpass the 5% threshold shows that there's a chance that the KPD could perhaps, one day, enter government if it continues it's collaborative policies with the rest of the Dundorfian Left.

NDZP URGES GOVERNMENT TO EXPAND CHARGING STATION COVERAGE

Bundestag, July 27, 5741: ODERVELD – LEUCHTFEUER asked Neue Dundorfische Zentrumspartei (NDZP) Secretary Bruno Steigerwald why it was supporting the Dundorfs Sozialdemokratsiche Partei (DSDP) bill for nuclear energy subsidies, and he responded:
 

There are two reasons. First the proposed language in the bill does not state our actual preference but is considerably better than what is currently on the books. Hence our vote.
 
Second, nuclear power is essential to continue a major project begun during the Felder Administration that we still very much favor.  Charging stations are now sufficiently conveniently located throughout Dunlake that electric vehicles traveling there are not going to be stranded wishing they could find a charging station.
 
As you know, NDZP has long felt that petroleum fueled vehicle use will not in fact become obsolete in the Bundesepublik anytime soon. Accordingly, many years ago we entered trade agreements guaranteeing that Dorvish and Kafuri crude oil will be available to the Bundesrepublik  in quantities sufficient that we will not experience a shortage.
 
We have also for some centuries been developing nuclear power stations to provide cleaner energy with the government owned Natonales Konsortium fur Kernenergie (NKK) building and operating our ten nuclear power plants during most of this period.
 
In order to make driving electric vehicles beyond the range possible from a home based charging station provided by manufacturers, under the Felder Administratioon NKK built and operated charging stations throughout Dunlake Bundesland. NKK still operates some but some small businesses and individual proprietorships as well as some automobile and truck manufacturers and car sale companies and truck hauling companies have bought and are operating most of the stations.  NKK stands ready to reacquire individual stations as necessary.
 
We have always recognized this could drain the power grid particularly during periods where home and employment facilities need heating and cooling. Accordingly, almost all the charging stations in Dunlake supplement their electric capacity access with solar panels. Some also use small wind produced energy as well.
 
NDZP believes this project in Dunlake has been a success and urges it be tried in other Bundeslander.
