Report on Progresses of Project "Relaksido"
To: Commissar Augusto Kraĉo
From: Professor Damiano Robido
Following the last series of tests on a synthesis fraction, one compound has emerged as particularly promising. The substance, which currently bears the working title "compound C-623", has the following structure:
Toxicodynamics
In vitro experiments have shown that it binds to ACh-esterase irreversibly. C-623 posesses great affinitiy to the enzyme and the formed covalent bond between it and the enzyme is very stable. The resulting extremely potent parasympathicomimesis leads to unconciousness in mere seconds followed by death from asphyxiation due to paralysis of the respiratory muscles over the course of minutes. In vivo tests on rats have shown, that the substance is volatile and potent enough to be lethal via inhalation in small dosages
Toxikokinetics
Upon inhalation C-623 is quickly resorbed reaching a bio availability of around 60-70%. It's quickly distributed via the bloodstream into the nervous system.
Remaining issues
Even if we are already able to produce the substance quantitatively in a targeted manner, there is still considerable scope for improving the process in terms of the resulting yield.
In view of the potential risk to personnel in the manufacturing process, a further research question is to what extent an in-situ synthesis of the substance could be realised. The idea is to produce two-component systems that contain the educts and would then only be activated in the field.
