LOURENNAIS FLEET JOINS OUR NAVY
 
Defense Ministry August 13, 5558: After Defense Minister Marcel Augereau met with the Chief of the Federal Defense Staff and the Chief of Naval Operations concerning the 5th Royal Lourennais Fleet, CLAIRON PICARD asked him if there were any problems, and Augereau replied:
 

The fleet was  transferred to us and we do want to operate it.  We were dealing with steps we need to take to make that work.
 
We spent a considerable amount of time considering whether to build the necessary facilities to service it in Savigny where it currently is located and move it to one of our existing naval bases.  We have not decided that yet but are leaning toward transfer to an existing naval base.
 
We all agreed the fleet should be operated as such rather than simply parceled out to our existing task forces. That was whole idea of transfer.  The Lourennais Third Fleet was transferred to Alduria and the Fourth to Rildanor..
 
Over time the Lourennais personnel will be retiring or choosing to return to Royaume Uni de Lourenne so the Federal Naval Staff is arranging replacements so they can be trained in place.  Two classes of transferred ships are new to us so it is particularly important that we learn quickly how to operate maintain, service and service them.  One is the aircraft carrier so this is a right important  reason for getting on with it.
 
We have decided to set up facilities in our Defense Ministry for Imperial Command to which the transferred fleet would directly report.  Once this is done it is hoped staff from the various Canraillaise Navies will join us to make it operative.
 
Then there is the cost of maintaining this considerable addition to our budget.  Past surpluses in the overall budget will delay any problems but leaving our submarines in drydock rather than making them operational again as we had planned to do shortly seems like a prudent budgetary move.  The Empire’s Bank of Canrille does have considerable funds available but having them serve as interest bearing capital rather than a slush fund as long as possible is what we hope to do. Implementation of a Canrillaise Imperial Intelligence service seems indefinitely delayed which would have been another draw on those funds.  We believe continued economic growth can alleviate any actual strain but we do want to be ready to handle the actual expenses as they occur.

WILL RELIGION BE ALLOWED AGAIN
 
Office of the Premier, November 6, 5558: CLAIRON PICARD has learned that Premier Etienne Bessieres met with the Archbishop of Atyr, Marcel Giraud, and the Contemplative Monastic Order of Occidentalium’s Abbot of Vitry le Francois, Publius Sempronius, at the Office of Premier to discuss again allowing limited practice of religion.
 
The Premier explained that the government understood that most citizens had an inclination to have religious beliefs but at the same time the church needed to realize those same citizens did not want the church to have any official authority over them. 
 
The Premier indicated his party was willing to allow the practice of religion again but that he did not want the church taking part in politics.  At all.  And asked if the Eliatists would be trying again to mix politics and exhibitionist religion.
 
Archbishop Giraud  assured him schools where the Eliatists taught were totally dependent on funding from the Monastic Order, and the Diocese would terminate funding any teacher who chose to disobey the rules.  Abbot Sempronius confirmed that the Order would only fund those schools in compliance with Diocesan requirements.
 
Premier Bessierses then told them legislation would be forthcoming.

KANJOR WILL STICK WITH LFR
 
Office of the Premier, May 6, 5559:  After a meeting with senior staff, Premier Etienne Bessieres was asked by CLAIRON PICARD if there were was any economic news, anfd Bessieres responded:
 

As you know with the uncertainty as to where the Empire of Canrille was headed, there was has been much discussion as to whether we should have a Canrillaise wide currency, whether an international mutual currency was in order and whether we should niot look to a currency beyond Kanjor.
 
With the return of Lourennais leadership to the Empire, we have decided that we will continue to support the LFR as the common currency of the Empire and for that matter the default currency of Terran finance. For us the period of uncertainty has ended, and we will join our Canraillaise sisters and brothers in recovering and restoring economic prosperity.
 
We do know some will criticize this as a gamble.  So be it.  We have determined it is the best course and are confident of success.
 
On another matter, we are trying to decrease dependency on petroleum based energy, but will not be there  for some time. We have simply bought on the international market; however, in view of Gaduridos entering the crude oil market, we will be taking steps to buy first from Gaduridos who will believe will be a dependable supplier.

OIL FROM KNOC

Office of the Premier, November 6, 5559: The Premier’s Office has been working with the Government of Kafuristan on a possible oil arrangement; and today Premier Etienne Bessieres made the following announcement:
 

An arrangement has been reached whereby South Seleyan Oil and Gas (SSOG) will be buying at least 125 million barrels per annum of Kajuri crude oil from Kajuri National Oil Company (KNOC), better known as Sharnaft, but no more than, 225 million barrels per annum, at market price on delivery.
 
And a very reasonable price it is. This certainly will help keep us from facing a petroleum shortage because of international tensions which seem to be brewing.
 
We believe KNOC will also benefit from a steady and reliable market.  We are in any even certainly grateful for the offer.
 
South Seleyan Oil and Gas has long been importing liquefied natural gas which is used among other things for generating electricity in some provinces where electrical vehicles are being used.

KANJOR WILL WILL BUY OIL FROM DORVIK
 
Office of the Premier, January 6, 5561: The Premier’s Office announced today that South Seleyan Oil and Gas (SSOG) will be buying at least 100 million barrels per annum of crude oil from the Dorvish oil company Northern Oil, but no more than, 200 million barrels per annum, at market price on delivery.
 
The Premier’s Office and the Government of the King and Kaiser were the intermediaries that brought SSOG and Northern Oil together to make this arrangement.
 
Kanjor has long sought to have some reliable petroleum suppliers to replace reliance on the international oil market which has proved to be extremely vulnerable to disruption by disputes over jurisdiction and military confrontation.
 
We believe reemerging Dorvish economic power will also benefit by having a steady and reliable customer disinclined to misadventures undermining the normal conduct of business.

Cap-Oriental, October 19, 5561:  Finance Minister Constance Berthier was in  Cap - Oriental meeting with a quite a few farmers, grocers, food processors, bankers and local officials in Silliers Province to discuss exporting truffles.  She told CLAIRON PICARD:
 

Eastern Silliers Province has a whole lot favoring its truffle productions.  Warm dry climate that truffles love, established areas of oak, cherry and hazelnut roots where truffles are growing, and trained truffle dogs and successful truffle pigs.
 
Further, Kanjor is very fortunate in that Canrille cuisine is established internationally as the most sought after on Terra. Even if people actually enjoy chili cheese grease burgers, noodles or fish and chips, the international set more often than not wants to be seen as appreciating and serving Canrille cuisine.
 
Terra already has shown clearly that Canrille cuisine must include Canrille wine not some fine box wine of Dovani.  Pinot noir growers in Martois hopefully can again  benefit greatly from this perception.
 
We now want to emphasize true traditional Canrille cuisine should  include truffles.  Not some whitish Kalapuya brunnea species from northern Seleya but real Kanjor black truffles, Tuber Melanosporum harvested in autumn and winter or the summer black truffle, Tuber Aestivum.  Real truffles pretty much consumed in Silliers Provice and to lesser extent in the rest of Kanjor.
 
We have both in eastern Silliers and they are rarely found elsewhere.  Terra is going to discover it must have your truffles.  It will not matter whether you actually use truffle dogs which have to be trained or truffle pigs who may well eat the truffle when we are not careful, but our campaign will glorify the truffle hog.
 
With funds appropriated to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the government is funding a Terra wide campaign to seriously increase awareness of the place of truffles in sophisticated cuisine as well as how to get them.
 
But can we produce enough for that when we are eating what we harvest right here? You can.  We will finance new and expanded operations with low interest loans either directly through Central Bank or from local banks with guarantees from Central Bank.  Again, with funds appropriated to the  Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
 
There is real opportunity here.

ASSIGNING IMPERIAL FLEET NEW HOME PORT

Defense Ministry April 13, 5563: CLAIRON PICARD sources in the Defense Ministry indicate the Chief of Naval Operations met with Defense Minister Marcel Augereau together with the Chief of the National Defense Staff to discuss the National Naval Staff recommendation concerning the home port for the 5th Royal Lourennais Fleet, or 5th Imperial Fleet, currently located in Savigny.
 
The Navy recommends that 5th Imperial Fleet be relocated at one of the five fully equipped naval yards already in existence rather than remain in the port of Savigny. The port now called Afar in Silliers Province is recommended. It was further recommended the 6 frigates in Task Force 21 in Afar be transferred to Task force 22 in Picard. The 8 submarines in Task Force 21 and the 7 submarines in Task Force 22 remain in drydock.
 
CLAIRON PICARD has learned that after a brief discussion the Navy proposal was adopted and will be implemented.
