Gallagher appointed as Prime Minister. What now?

Fort William, Principality of Orange, Luthori - Amids Mr. Gallagher's appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury after Labour's electoral success against the Conservatives during the most recent election, most political pundits planned that this government, dominated by the "Left" Faction of the National Labour Party would be a "government of reform", opposed to the decade-long political stability era, proned by the Conservatives in the Imperial Diet and Imperial Senate. Mr. Gallagher's Labour scored an impressive win against the Lord Holdenburg's Conservatives in the Imperial Diet, winning over 317 seats out of the 529 in the Imperial Diet, crushing the Prime Minister's hopes for a renewed majority and mandate. Mr. Grapher's Conservatives have been frequantely attacked during this campaign as being "inactive", "uncharacteristic" and "lacking a spine", something that has been shared by many Luthorians, tired to the Party's apparent grip on power and their apparent inactiveness on the institutional, societal, economic and defence issues. A poll from the Luthorian Poll Analystics for The Times, stated that the Tory Party was "likely to suffer its worst electoral defeat since 5413" and their landslide defeat to the Labour Party, ancestor to the National Labour Party. Gallagher's victory was likely and forecasted by analysts, who were not surprised of the side of that said victory. Now that Mr. Gallagher sits on his throne at the 10 Crown Street, his radical agenda for reform being now known to the public due to his campaign speeches, he still must announces the policy-making from Her Majesty's Government during his 5-year tenure as Prime Minister.

Mr. Gallagher is a radical, considering himself as being "the heir of the fights of the Socialist-Ecologist movement" during the beginning of the century. As such, his agenda plans for a radical transformation of the Luthorian educational system, by making a system "that is done for all and not for a few [...], a system free from outside influences such as wealth", as he stated during one of his campaign stops at Winchester, Orange. He also vowed to reform the Imperial Senate, to enforce the Diet's supremacy over the Senate, something that has been left in limbo during the last leftist government, he, in this aim, aims at removing the rights for hereditary peers to sit on the Imperial Senate, drastically reducing the influence of the Lords over the Senate's decisions over the overall decisions choosed by Parliament, vowing that he "wants the right of the people heard above all others". Finally, Mr. Gallagher seeks to radically increase the state ownership of some key industries during his Premiership, stating that his government would look into "possibilities" to increase the state's involvement in military industry, while also advocating for cuts in the Department of Defence's overall budget, advocating for a smaller military sector, rather than an expanded one. In foreign policy, the traditional high sticking point for the Tories, the new Prime Minister has not yet stated his intentions, although, due to the administration being dominated by traditional Tories, so no radical changes in policy, apart from an shift in narrative should be expected.

The Prime Minister's social agenda is in stark contrast of the one defended by the Tories, while the Tories are promising the uplift the standards of the police to reach new standards set by the Internal Ministry, Labour seeks to increase the funding made to cities and to poor neighboorhoods in hopes of increasing their status in society, this would come in hand with the education reforms planned by the "Left" faction of the National Labour Party, led by Education Secretary, Gloria McTysen. This increase of funds to cities and the creation of long-term sustainable development programs for poor neighboorhoods present in Fort William, Alchester and all across the realm will also come by the creation of new government agencies, such as the National Development Management Council, which would, for example, tasked with handling the issue of development of cities and economically weak neighboorhoods.

National Labour likely to win 5559 elections as Tories lags in campaign.

Fort William - As Luthori is currently preparing for a General Election, the ruling Conservatives’ chances at a renewed mandate are becoming increasingly low, with the National Labour Coalition and the Liberal Party making substantial gains in polls last months, in the aftermath of a seeming government “inactivity” by the Conservative administration. Last months were described as “unusually calm” by many government employees, who were shocked to find out that most of their jobs were focused around handling some bureaucratic work. The Prime Minister has been unavailable for some time now and many suspect that the increased role of the Foreign Secretary within the Cabinet, who has been appointed as Deputy Prime Minister only some weeks ago, comes from a concern for the Prime Minister’s health. Although, it should be noted that the Prime Minister has been frequently appearing in campaigns all throughout the countryside, to boost confidence in the current administration in the closing stages of the Campaign Trail.

In recent polling, the National Labour Coalition has seen an increase in their overall popularity over the years, a surge which went hand in hand with the Prime Minister and his government’s rising unpopularity with the Luthorian public. Today, Labour is projected to win 319 seats, two seats shy from the Prime Minister’s electoral landslide during the General Election of 5554, triggered due to an Dissolution of Parliament request made to Her Majesty by the Prime Minister, who, at the time, was feeling confident that the governing party, the Conservative Party, had a solid public backing after 2 years of “solid and good governance” by his Government. Yet, for the last few years, it seems that everything went downhill for the Tory government. Results became scarce and the administration’s record of scandals went up, from their inability to capture the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Bravo in Lourenne due to failings in collaboration between the Luthorian and Canrillaise security agencies, to corruption scandals which led to the resignations of some small ministers and plummeted the Conservative overall support in the general election, which has been running between 25 % and 30 % ever since.

In contrast, this general election is likely going to be the big victory of the National Labour Coalition, which sits, as for now, at 38.6 % of voting intentions, with young voters being the most enthusiastic about voting for the NLC, around 70 % of future first-voters (aged 18 at the time of the elections) are stating their preference for the Labour. While older generations tend to favour the ‘status-quo’ represented by the Conservatives. It should also be stated that old voters are also going to vote, while not in a majority, but in a sizable minority for the National Labour Coalition, around 37 % of them say that their choice is within the National Labour’s candidates. Middle-aged demographics are also quite divided on the issue, with gender political orientation making themselves more shown in this age class, with male voters being more favourable to either the Liberals or the Conservatives, with 35 % stating that their vote will be Conservative, while women are mostly voting for Labour candidates, with 40 % of women between 25 and 59 stating that they would vote Labour at the next election.

If they were lucky enough, they would go on to a homeless centre, if they were not. It would be, yet again, their everyday life. This is a hypocrisy that this Party and this Nation cannot let pass. We must, by the sheer effort of all Luthorians, create a platform where every single one of our fellow countrymen would be allowed to live a decent life without the fear of one day being forced out in the streets.”

Mr. Carol’s campaign, attacking the mistakes done by the Conservatives during their numerous terms in office, was dubbed by the Workers’ Newspaper as being the “most efficient campaign done in a century”, as the National Labour continued to draw its advance in comparison to the lagging Tories. In other subjects of society, Mr. Carol’s campaign was also able to draw confidence in a governing National Labour, with subjects which were traditionally dominated by the Tories flipping to Labour, subjects such as foreign policy or the economy are now seeing more and more people supporting Labour’s plans than for the Conservatives’ economic plans. Labour calling for a reform to the current status-quo of the Tories’ imposed “State Capitalist” system, they are calling for the creation of a full-blown welfare state, with comprehensive pension and healthcare reforms to allow for the creation of that said state. Finally, as expected from the Labour Party, they are also calling for the implementation of more progressive policies at the societal level and have also written a quite controversial take on institutional reform, the Imperial Senate’s Reform, which, if the Labour Party do not get a majority into, would be impossible to reform, as per with parliamentary protocol of equality between the Houses of Parliament.

A Labour-led Luthori may not be an impossibility very soon, dear readers.

Celebration of Anya Turner's (NLP) electoral victory in close seat in Willington, upsetting the Tory incumbent, Daniel Upkins.

Fort William - Yesterday, as Luthori went to vote, political pundits were lurking into one simple possibility, all polls predicted that, even 1 year ago, the National Labour Party’s electoral victory would be tonight. What they were searching for was the size of that victory. A year, a poll from the Luthorian polling institution LPA [Luthorian Polling Analytics], hinted that the National Labour could win 319 seats in the Imperial Diet, yet today, it seems that polls were mostly correct in their assessment of the Labour’s victory, yet also underestimated Mr. Carol’s campaign. At 10 pm yesterday, when the exit polls first appeared, it seemed that the Labour landslide that was predicted did come to fruition, with the National Labour Party being projected at winning 320 to 350 out of the 529 seats in the Imperial Diet, something that was never properly considered by polls or analysts before the election. While polls have refined themselves during the entirety of the night, when the next morning came. Luthori woke up with a Labour-dominated Parliament, with 331 seats being held by the Labour Party, out of the 529 comprising the Imperial Diet. This crushing victory over the Conservatives, which only won 136 seats was widely celebrated through the night by Labour supporters, Mr. Carol, in the aftermath of his election victory, held a rally in downtown Fort William, next to the constituency where he was re-elected for the third time. Holding a speech during this “victory rally”, the enthusiastic Leader of the Opposition, soon-to-be Prime Minister said the following sentences in reaction to his party’s victory.

"People have said that the National Labour Party, our movement, was doomed to remain in opposition. [audience starts booing] They said that it was impossible for us to win any election, whether it is at the local level or the national level. They said the Tory Party was too powerful, too big to fail. Yet, today, the Luthorian people sent to these people a resounding message. A resounding no. No, the Tory Party, the Conservatives were not ‘too big to fail’, the people proved that today. They gave a solid mandate to the National Labour Party to apply our manifesto. The people wanted change. They created that change. [audience starts clapping] 

They gave themselves the opportunity for a clear change in governance by giving to our party a resounding majority of 70 seats in the Imperial Diet! Today is a new dawn for our nation, the former establishment has been crushed by the people’s will. The Tories lie defeated, while the National Labour rose from the ashes that we found her into when we took over. Our government will be a government of the people, for the people, by the people and we’ll tackle the issues plaguing our nation at the very moment when Her Majesty the Empress appoints me as her first Labour Prime Minister. [audience starts cheering and clapping] 

The issues that we must tackle today are immense, from poverty to decaying cities and neighborhoods, from critical issues with both our education and healthcare system. This is not a work that will or should be done in 5 years. But this work will be tackled by this government, regardless of whether or not we succeed or not. But I assure you, we’ll fight for a better future for Luthorians regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. All of them shall receive a better future after this administration. May God preserve this nation and may God protect you all. Thank you very much.”

Celebrations, as stated earlier continued through the night to celebrate the upcoming Labour administration, while on the other side of the aisle, the Conservative Party, recovering from the devastation that was the election came to quickly realize that their 30-year long reign over Luthori’s governmental apparatus came to an end. Mr. Grapher, Prime Minister, was not standing for this election, as he’s a member of the Imperial Senate, after the devastating electoral losses that his party suffered during this year’s elections, with the Tories over 57 % of their seats, more than half of them. Lord Holdenburg was forced, amid his electoral loss, to express himself to the public in the aftermath of the Labour leader’s speech. While his speech wasn’t as celebrating obviously as the one from the Labour leader, his speech was still one that gave hope to most Conservative supporters.

Today, the Luthorian people voted our party out of power, while it has been predicted by many analysts and polls during the last years and weeks. We still fought on to prevent what many thought impossible. Yet, after all our efforts, we still lost. Yet, for all Conservative members and candidates who campaigned all around the country, this fight wasn’t for nothing. You’ve fought and tried your best to win this election, even though you’ve lost, this is not the end for both our party and our movement. After all, we may have lost today, but we can still win in 5, 10 or even 15 years from now. The road will be arduous, but the results may be the most beautiful yet.

To all Luthorians, first let me congratulate Mr. Carol and the National Labour Party for their victory, while disappointing for my party, you and your party fought a hard long campaign which bore its fruits with the rewards of victory. While I’ll not be here to see the results of your governance, I may only hope for the best for this country. Finally, I must, due to this electoral loss, announce my resignation as Prime Minister which I’ll tender to Her Majesty, the Empress tomorrow and Leader of the Conservative Party. [...]”

Mr. Grapher saw Her Majesty the Empress this morning after delivering his last remarks, alongside his wife and family to the Press at the Prime Minister’s Residence at 10 Crown Street. He went to the Palace to tender his resignation to Her Majesty which accepted his resignation over the grounds that he could no longer lead a functional governmental majority in the Imperial Diet and Senate. The Palace then invited Mr. Carol came to an Audience with Her Majesty, which everyone knew would be about him taking over the Office of Prime Minister. After meeting with the Empress, Mr. Carol came down to the gates of the Palace, announcing proudly that “Her Majesty the Empress asked me to form a government in Her name, and I’ve accepted.”, this marks the beginning of the Carol Ministry, and as for the Conservatives, a serious reconsideration "is currently underway", according to one spokesperson's words.

Prime Minister Carol Enters Crown Street; Forms Governmental Team.

Fort William - Today morning, Mr. Carol was appointed as Prime Minister by Her Majesty the Empress, becoming Luthori’s first left-wing Prime Minister in over 40 years, 4 decades during which, the political landscape was dominated by the Conservative-Liberal diarchy, then by the Conservative Party alone. Winning in a landslide during the last election, Mr. Carol went to the Orange Palace after his predecessor, the Marquess of Holdenburg, went there to present his resignation to the Sovereign. He went to receive Her Majesty’s blessings to form a new government in her name, and while in theory, Luthori’s governmental formation may take up some time to make, here, in a surprise move, Mr. Carol appointed his government in the wake of his speech before the front door of 10 Crown Street where he was attended by dozens of supporters and his wife, Mrs. Carol. Here’s the entire speech of 9 minutes delivered by the new Luthorian Prime Minister upon his arrival in 10 Crown Street.

“My fellow citizens,

Upon this day forward, a new dawn set itself in our great nation. You’ve voted, in great majority in favour of change in leadership, in favour of reform, in favour of greater economic equality, less wealth inequalities, you voted for a freer and more inclusive Luthori. Today, this is your era, an era of the people, by the people and for the people. 152 years ago, our movement was first created under the name of the “Labour Party”, this coalition of left-wing politicians wanted to draw changes to this nation, draw a fairer and better economy, draw in the dust, the light upon all Luthorians, regardless of their condition, race, gender or sexual orientation would be able to recognize themselves into this nation. All these years, ever since the creation of the National Labour Party, we’ve fought continuously for these ideals to take roots in this Empire. Today, we are finding ourselves to be, yet again, at a crossroad, Lourenne’s brief international absence only brang instability and chaos, as financial markets were panicking due to Lourennais absence from the international chessboard. No longer should we tolerate tyrannies in the world, no longer should we tolerate tyrants masking their tyranny as being a “democracy”, no longer should we continue that.

Finally, we have a family, a family of families with whom I am currently speaking to you all. This family is the Luthorian language. Of course, this family is represented with another family, the Commonwealth of Nations. For far too long, this organisation has been sleeping, waiting for their opportunity. Yet, as more and more Luthorian-speaking states are rising, it is now of the utmost importance that this vital link between Luthorian-speaking be permanently reactivated. With Likatonia’s ascension to a full member state status, the Commonwealth breathed again. Yet, our commitment and objective should be that all Luthorian-speaking states, from Rutania to New Englia, passing by Hutori and Tropica, all Luthorian-speaking states should join the Commonwealth. Of course, no one is forced to do anything. Yet, it is my sincere wish for all Luthorian-speaking states to be united under one banner, the banner of the Commonwealth.

This family of nations is linked through a language, which is vital in this country. This leads to a reflection on our education system, is it fair? Is it fair that some children are not going to school at all? Is it fair that our education system is pushing for children to become beasts thinking about themselves rather than about the community that we were grown into? Is it fair that such a level of pressure be imposed upon our students? Is it fair? I don’t think so. This government will push for a comprehensive education reform package which, based on the students’ own apprehension, testimonies and as well from the professors, headmasters and everyone involved in the education system, pushes for an effective, yet humane form of education. In contrast to the system that we are currently pushing our children into. Our society needs change, and while it starts with the education system, it also passes by our healthcare system. While previous governments tried to fix the system, it is still broken. Our Imperial Health Service is currently lacking in funds, leadership and talent. Today, we have a mission to change that. We must provide to the people the care that they deserve, not a care for which they would later regret. The IHS is in dire need of support. And this administration will do everything in its power to bring the IHS out of this dire situation and raise it to new heights.

This administration will bring to heights that it has never seen before. May God protect us in this journey and may God protect us. God Bless the Empress and Long live the Empire.”

Mr. Carol’s speech was welcomed with calm and serenity from the Fort William Stock Exchange as the Government didn’t yet reveal their economic policies, only vague remarks about the country’s healthcare and education system dire needs of reforms and oversight from the Imperial Government. The Stock Exchange overall, even reacted positively to the Prime Minister’s opening speech in Crown Street, although, it should be awaited tomorrow to know whether or not the Government appointees would cause any significant change to the markets. The Prime Minister then went into Crown Street itself and received congratulations upon his election victory by foreign leaders. He then promptly began receiving many politicians from his own party to appoint them as Government ministers, as per tradition. Nothing was very much speculated, as most of the new ministers are former members of Mr. Carol’s Shadow Ministry back when he was serving as the Leader of the Opposition. Fort William - Mrs. Carolina Pryce, appointed as Foreign Secretary only 1 month ago, has accorded an interview to The Times, detailing her views on foreign policy and her view on Luthori’s foreign policy, whether or not she will be doing changes to the foreign policy established by the Conservatives during their 4-decade long reign in power. Labour ran on a “compromise” platform during the election, as the left-wing of the Party wanted radical change to be conducted on foreign policy, to “do away from the Tories”, with more emphasis on humanitarian, democratic and social values abroad, in contrast, the right-wing of the Party, from which Mrs. Pryce and Mr. Carol are issued from, are perfectly content with the current foreign policy decided by previous Tory administrations, although they are far more willing to include “idealistic” elements such as standing up for democratic and human rights abroad, yet, deep down, they are remaining pragmatists, not willing to see ideology taking over the nation’s “supreme interests”, as they call it. During his first speech as Prime Minister, Mr. Carol emphasized the “importance of democracy in Luthori’s national spirit” and the Commonwealth being Luthori’s “supreme interest”, as for seeing all Luthorian-speaking states become a part of this framework. The Foreign Secretary answered our journalist’s questions in that regard, here is the full interview.

Isabelle Morlington (IM): Madam Secretary, thank you for having accepted our offer for an interview today.

Carolina Pryce (CP): Thank you, and it’s normal for the press to be aware of the Secretary’s actions, especially in such a critical domain.

IM: You are one of the youngest Secretaries to have ever been appointed at Bismarck Palace, following the footsteps of Secretaries such as Andrew Meyer, Alexandra Ramsay-Hayden, and others. How do you feel, one month into your tenure as Foreign Secretary?

CP: With power comes great responsibility, I am completely aware that I am the youngest Foreign Secretary, to date, to take up office. And I respect and understand the legacies left to us by these great and responsible Foreign Secretaries. Yet, with my appointment to the Foreign Department, I seek to create a new era in foreign policy and how we are concluding foreign policy.

IM: Madam, may I ask what do you mean by “creating a new era” in foreign policy, does that means that the Labour government will do away with the old Tory methods and policies to create a new policy?

CP: Yes and no. In some parts, you are right, this Government is likely to put some principles in the front of our policy, such as Pan-Artanianism, Pan-Luthorianism, Democracy and Human Rights. Yet, also on the other hand, you are wrong, through the Foreign Relations Committee in the Imperial Diet and Senate, the Labour and Conservative Parties have been collaborating on foreign policy agenda and goals for a long time now, and it is not in Luthori’s interest of making a 180° turn on everything we’ve been standing for, such as the protection of Luthorian trade and shipping and the protection and respect of our allies in the World.

IM: Madam, you’ve said that this Government would put some “principles” in terms of your foreign policy conduct, you’ve mentioned Pan-Artanianism, Pan-Luthorianism, Human Rights and Democracy. I would specifically ask you about the “Pan-Artanianism” part, as it has been known to the successive Luthorian governments that Pan-Artanianism isn’t a position to take up. Is it a goal to restore the Artanian Union or to just create bigger links between all nations in Artania and the Luthorian Empire?

CP: To answer your question, I am very much aware of the very bad connotation that Pan-Artanianism may have within the Foreign Office and the Luthorian public, we have, with other nations, over the course of centuries, tried to unite our continent, but it seems, of course that these efforts have failed. My objective when I talk about Pan-Artanianism is to reassure ties between Luthori’s historical partners in Narikaton & Darnussia and Dundorf, while also speaking with other states who, as of today, either have a good relation with Fort William or don’t. In my point of view, it is important for the Luthorian Empire to foster and maintain good relations with its neighbors, which I’ll do during my tenure as Foreign Secretary.

IM: You had during many of your years in the Opposition dissenting voices in your Party, recently, a newly-elected MP for the National Labour Party, Mr. Simon Lombar has called for the complete dismantlement of the “Luthorian imperialist effort”, describing the Commonwealth. How would you answer that?

CP: Well madam, I think that you and your newspaper is aware that Mr. Lombar has first been, first and foremost, criticized by the entire party for his comments and then, as per with the decision of the National Labour Parliamentary Party, suspended from sitting with the Party-in-Parliament and, promptly expelled from the Party for his controversial takes on the Monarchy and the Luthorian way of life. I will also add that I am standing in complete opposition to Mr. Lombar’s extremist views and I think that this sort of speech towards the central element of our democracy, our Monarchy, is something that should not be tolerated.

IM: So, you’ve taken an anti-radical stance, haven't you?

CP: Of course, I’ve always been anti-radical ever since my entry into politics, and that’s a fight that I will continue until my ultimate demise. Radicalism and extremism are the two diseases that are plaguing any political democratic framework and ever since the implementation of the Democratic Process Stabilization Act, these extreme voices have been silenced, yet we must always remain vigilant to the threat of radicalism.

IM: Madam Secretary, you’ve also said that the priority for this new government, and the Prime Minister also stated that during his speech, would be the preservation and maybe expansion of the Commonwealth, would you mind giving us some details about these plans?

CP: For now, the Foreign Office and I are still working on the details. But, for us, Luthori’s policy-making, and we found ourselves to be in agreement with the Official Opposition on this field, should be focused around the Commonwealth and the preservation of her links with other Luthorian-speaking states. Of course, another important aspect of Luthorian policy should remain her willingness to conduct trade with other nations, in a respectful way, of course.

IM: I think that this concludes our interview, thank you, Madam Secretary.

CP: Thank you.

Now, something remains to be seen, where will the Foreign Secretary conduct her first official state visit, as the location of the country in particular and its place in Luthori’s foreign policy may give some hindsight on the priority of the Foreign Office during this term. Major visits may be held in Narikaton and Darnussia, Mordusia or more surprisingly, Gaduridos.

Luthori Denounces Lodamese and Beiteynuese Naval Presence in Artania; ILN placed on "increased readiness"

Fort William - Amids the recent announcement from Yishelem that the Kingdom was discussing with the Hobrazians for an “permanent” military presence in Artania. The Luthorian Government has recently released a statement on this matter. Surprisingly, this statement condemned both Lodamun and Beiteynu. The Foreign Secretary, Carolina Pryce gave us more details during this morning’s press conference.

“There is a reason why Her Majesty’s Government condemned Lodamun and Beiteynu. Lodamun, while still Luthori’s ally, put into jeopardy the security of Artania for hell we don’t know what reason, also putting into jeopardy the security of their ally here. By their actions, they’ve opened a gate which had been closed for a century, the gate of imperialism in the Artanian continent. And alas, yet again, this has been used by Yishelem to expand their tendrils in Artania. This is something that Her Majesty’s Government cannot idly stand by and watches as its own security in the region is put into jeopardy by opportunistic powers.”

While having some tough words for both Lodamun and Beiteynu’s reckless behavior, the Foreign Secretary announced that the Imperial Luthorian Navy had received orders to be “at an increased readiness”, in case something bad could happen. And when asked about the difference that this deployment may have with the upcoming Luthorian naval deployment in Mordusia.

“There’s a big difference. Luthori learnt from its mistakes made in Baltusia, 80 years ago. Luthori contacted every single powers involved in the area, thus being Alduria, Kanjor and Lourenne, as part of the Canrillaise Empire and the MSCO in Yishelem and Cachtica, at the very difference of Beiteynu and Lodamun, Luthori has been overly cautious in terms of its deployments, only deploying this small force because of the Mordusians needing assistance in their naval security, amidst their security budget’s cuts by the Government. And as stated, if Mordusia wants us out, we’ll be out.”

When asked about Luthori’s position on the matter, she stated that.

“Luthori’s position is simple, we are completely opposed to any military presence in Artania. Period. This requires the Lodamese and the Beiteynuese to do one simple thing. Withdraw from Artania.”

Imperial Navy officializes Mordusian Task Force; Aims to be "respectful" of current military status in SoLS.

Fort William - Chief of the Naval Staff, Taylor Braverman issued a statement which confirmed today that a small task force from the Imperial Luthorian Navy would be sent to Mordusia, as part of a structural reform of the Imperial Luthorian Navy, to prepare it for further international engagement. Mr. Braverman, in a press conference in the aftermath of his appointment as Chief of the Naval Staff by the Defence Secretary, following his predecessor’s retirement from the military framework, stated his grievances with the Luthorian military system.

“[...] We don’t need “reforms”, we need a structural and managerial update. We are currently heading one of the world’s finest navies, regardless of what others could say about it. Although, we are currently unable to support permanent presences in other countries for our naval ships. [...] The Imperial Luthorian Navy, as well as the Imperial Luthorian Armed Forces must, for its own modernization process, change its thinking from an old-school 5000s POVs (Point of View) military strategy to a more accurate version of it, featuring in the 5500s. Such reforms must first begin at the very backbone of the military. The Officers’ Cadet Military Schools, and due to education being one of the priorities, politically-speaking, of the new Cabinet, it should be very likely that military education could also be the source of many grievances that would need the thinking and enactment of reforms. [...] Of course, it is my sincere hope that my good friend, Col. [Colonel] Arthur Philips will be able to steer that reformist mindset into our military schools…”

About the status of the Luthorian fleet that would be sent in Mordusia, the Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff and Second Sea Lord, Hugh Billinghay stated that gave some details about the status of the new Task Force.

“In light of her current capabilities in terms of global operations, is sending a Mordusian Task Force that would be composed of 14 ships, most of them being sent in order to strengthen the Mordusian self-defence apparatus that is, of course, the main reason why this Navy has agreed with the consent of the Mordusian Federal Government to send this said-Task Force.”

The Imperial Luthorian Navy’s Mordusian Task Force would be composed of 4x River-class offshore patrol vessels, 4x Sandown-class minehunters, 2x Type-23 frigates and 2x Type-45 destroyers. This Task Force is currently ordered by the Naval Command to be patrolling, on behalf and in cooperation with the Mordusian Navy, the western coast of Mordusia, the one giving way to the Sea of Lost Souls. Due to the fleet’s location in the highly tensions-filled area of the Sea of Lost Souls, the Imperial Luthorian Navy’s High Command, to avoid the repeat of a fiasco comparable to the Baltusian Debacle in the 5480s, stated that both the MSCO and Canrillaise naval forces present in the area, alongside their respective naval commands have been informed of the soon-to-be-present Luthorian fleet in the area. The Naval High Command may here only hope that a diplomatic fiasco may be avoided by this respectful communication with other naval forces in the Area.

It should be noted that this communication of Luthorian naval forces going down to Mordusia comes in a “perfect timing” for the Imperial Luthorian Armed Forces as it is widely considered to be a pressure move on the incoming National Labour government who is currently considering the budget reductions of some ministries, such as the Defence or Internal Ministries who are widely considered to be “in danger” of seeing their budget reduced. The Prime Minister and the Government had already stated during their campaign and during the Throne Speech that the military “would not be the priority of the incoming administration” and that budget cuts amids the military’s “seeming inadequacy” in terms of results coming out, in stark contrast with the huge military budget given to her by the previous Tory administrations may be the sign of a “slimmed down military”, as the new Defence Secretary called it. A military focused around technological development, and with a new, smaller budget, than the “current mess” that we call a military, according to the Defence Secretary.

These comments that called the military “a mess” draw a lot of controversy within the Imperial Luthorian Armed Forces, with the Chief of the Defence Staff (CoDS), Arthur Pinkman attacking the Defence Secretary on his comments stating that “it was unfair to all Luthorians who are currently defending the country by taking a part in her defence”, critics also came from the right, with the Unionist League’s Leader, Sir Vincent Kraggs calling the statements “disgraceful” and calling for the resignation of the Defence Secretary “at once”, he also called the government to “better respect the servicemen and servicewomen in our military”. The Tory Party’s Leader, Fr. Prime Minister Lord Holdenburg, called upon the Defence Secretary “to clarify his comments”, before making more statements about the controversy. All and all, it seems that the already strained relationship between the Labour Government and the Imperial Military is only worsening day by day.

As for command status, Rear Admiral Jonathan Pyers was appointed by the First Sea Lord as the "Commander of the Mordusian Task Force", title going as per with his title of Rear Admiral. Mr. Pyers is recognized as being a careful and diplomatic man, seeing the usage of "Naval Diplomacy" in the global stage as a mean to expand one country's interests, as seen recently by the recent announcement from Lodamun with the sending of an expeditionnary force in Malivia. Mr. Pyers stated that in regards to the recent deployment of Lodamese military forces in the Migrant's Pass. Although, it has backfired.

"The Lodamese Navy's moves have been considered surprising by some, but since the Lodamese Navy and Coast Guard have already been operating in the Artanian Sea and North Ocean, it shouldn't be. Although, many people may have thought of JAMS as a deterrent for any power to come to the Migrant Pass, which is, after all, one of the world's most strategic locations, which it has proven it is, with the recent crisis. Although, it should be noted that this Crisis may be the beginning of a rift between Luthori and Lodamun in terms of security collaboration and economic one. The Citadel is obviously worried about possible ramifications in this collaboration."

Imperial Luthorian Army to undertake "modernization" efforts for 40 years; amids recent developments.

Fort William - Amids the recent creation and deployment of the Mordusian Task Force to Mordusia and the current debates in Parliament about the Government Budget of 5560, where it is likely that the Imperial Luthorian Army, Imperial Luthorian Navy and Imperial Luthorian Air Force’s budgets are likely going to be cutted and these excedent funds would be redirected towards the healthcare and education budgets, the Citadel announced, alongside the Department of Defence in the Malvin Headquarters that a “lengthy” process of “modernization of the capabilities” of the Imperial Luthorian Army, Navy and Air Force.

Of course, this doesn’t come as a “standalone” announcement, as the Luthorian military states that an “optimistic” outcome would be to have the Imperial Luthorian Armed Forces to be fully modernized at the beginning of the 57th Century, this came to be known as “Operation 5600”, during which the military would see an increase in investments, those either coming from the Government or the private military sector. “Operation 5600” also seems to hint towards a “total revamp” of the Luthorian military sector, towards one where “cutting-edge” military equipment is produced. Defence Secretary, Mr. Leonard Howard stated the government’s “willingness” to go along with the proposed plan for a complete modernization and reorganization of the military, stating that:

“...worrying developments in the world may signify the beginning of a Luthorian remilitarization process…”

Although, while saying that, his government was currently undermining that same modernization process by announcing cuts to the military budgets of the three parts of the Armed Forces. Regardless of this, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CoDS), Arthur Pinkman stated the following in regards to the military modernization process which is going to be undertaken by the Luthorian Armed Forces.

“By allowing ourselves to check our current capabilities and increase them when needed, it is, without a doubt, a process which is going to be a useful process for the Armed Forces. While it is totally understandable that this sort of procedure shouldn’t be undertaken and even discussed lightly, the Citadel reported numerous issues that needed to be fixed within either the Imperial Luthorian Army, Navy or Air Force. One of these issues being the lack of intra-service collaboration within the military, this also comes down to the issue of separate officer courses which all fuel a rivalry between the Navy and the Army Cadets. This “rivalry” so to speak is a high factor in military effectiveness and we’re worried about the fact that could potentially lead to our effectiveness in missions being handicapped by this.

I’ve already spoken with the Head of the Military Education Corps, Colonel Arthur Philips, about the possibility of creating reform in the education of our future officers, in hopes of greatly reducing the current issues plaguing our officer corps.

Other than these issues, there are only issues in terms of readiness, equipment and expertise that need to be handled. On the last subject, it is highly likely that a program of regular exercises in the Artanian Sea or in the Luthorian Homeland, or in other territories in our allies’ territory. Where a hope may be to create some experiences to our soldiers and officers by regularly exercising their abilities in front of a situation during a war, battle in a chosen theater of operations. This will be developed soon. As codenames and situations are still being debated and decided upon currently. Although, we must say that regular decade operations of military exercises will be held by the Imperial Luthorian Armed Forces, alongside regular small-scale exercises, involving only a few units, every 2 years. Exceptional military exercises may be planned 6 months in advance, as always.”

The Defence Secretary, for his part, stated that the Government had a project of “nationalizing” the military industry. Although, he confirmed that due to a likely Parliamentary Opposition from the National Labour Party’s Right Wing, the concept would be slimmed down to the creation of an Office responsible for Governmental scrutiny in military exportations and an “increased” government oversight on military production. For now, the only news that we received from the military industry is the renaming and sale of the Reynolds Maritime Company to “DeepBlue Instruments”, although, it is stated that the company would continue its work on military equipment, by collaborating with other companies for software and resources. 

A trend which is more likely to be the case, as the costs of producing everything alone far outweighs those of producing it in collaboration with other companies which are specialized in a specific part of the military equipment. Regardless, the Challenger III, produced for now, entirely by the SV Defence Group, is going to be produced in collaboration with other companies at the beginning of next year, time to begin the transition period.

Apart from that, the Defence Office also hinted out to the creation of "new" Army subdivisions, adding more components to the Imperial Luthorian Armed Forces, alongside the current modernization of the current military capabilities and equipments of that same military. Elements such as a "Civil Guard", tasked with homeland defence and national security amids a current government-backed proposal to abolish mandatory military service for young Luthorians, the Government stating that this move would lead to "greater focus on the upper education of young adults".
