In this thread, I have created an out-of-character record of the history of Cildania during the period when it was ruled by Grand Prince Ġakbu Maria. For me personally, this was among the most fun and engaging role-play I have been involved with. The aim of this thread is that other players who might want to read through role-play from this period are able to do so easily. As a secondary effect, it allows any future players to easily understand the key developments in the country's recent history. If nothing else, it provides me with an opportunity to revisit some of the best moments. Key events have been marked with an asterisk to make them easier to locate.

Commander Zōilos Angietis has confirmed the restoration of order in the capital, Sharba, after a morning of sporadic confrontation in the city centre. Noises were reported at the Prime Minister's address and the state broadcaster, but stopped shortly after the arrival of the Commander to the latter location. Blockages on roads leading to the capital were maintained to contain the situation.

In a televised speech to the nation, Commander Angietis confirmed that his Nen-Snēou (NS; Luthorian: Our Brothers) group has 'acted decisively to ensure the security situation is stabilised' and announced a curfew to prevent further disruption. The curfew will be in effect from 5pm tonight. The Commander acknowledged 'isolated incidents' of violence ongoing but promised a 'zero tolerance policy for those who would spread disorder'.

There will be those who wish to take us back into chaos, but like a rifle our nation aims forward!

Prime Minister Omar Abadi co-signed Commander Angietis' actions in a short clip posted to social media, confirming his safety, whereabouts and that he had agreed to 'a period of transition'. He also thanked Angietis for his 'bravery' in taking action against disorder. A statement followed from the King, who congratulated Commander Angietis on his quick success.

Since the failed reforms of former PM Dulcitius Sethenes nearly nine years ago, unrest has damaged the standing and stability of Cobura. At the same time, Commander Zōilos Angietis has waged a tireless campaign to prevent unauthorised groups from preying upon the nation's fragility. Now, with the capital in his capable hands, that period of fragility can finally be consigned on history - and our nation can move forward.

Ngum, who has led the MPP for nearly a quarter of a century, said that he could "no longer command the complete respect and loyalty of [his] legislators" but confirmed that he would continue as head of state until an internal election had been held to determine his successor. In the meantime, his former deputy leader Jon Ndiaye has taken acting leadership of the People's Party.

While Ngum may give pressure from his own party as his reason for resignation, most would agree that- in reality- it is the Ahmadi Justice Party that have forced him to step down from his long-standing position. Last week, Ngum faced severe criticism for numerous offensive remarks made about the nation's substantial Ahmadi minority in a previously un-broadcasted interview from a decade ago. In the footage, he refers to then-AJP leader Naseeba Marenah as a "dingo-brained moron" and to traditional Ahmadi customs as "voodoo nonsense" and faced immediate calls to resign when it was leaked. Yesterday, the party's leader in the Senate launched an official motion of no confidence in the Chairman and several MMP Senators warned they may have to support the motion if it reached a vote.

Ultimately, the political ramifications of the scandal could be much further-reaching. Any potential successor to Ngum will need to command the support of the diverse People's Party members of the State Assembly, which the outgoing leader was able to achieve in part due to the varied nature of his leadership team. On top of that, the lack of an MPP-majority in the Senate means that Ngum's replacement will need the votes of at least one other political party and this is unlikely to be the AJP given the recent storm. Negotiating a deal which ensures that the Council of Ministers is able to succeed in passing its legislative agenda could take weeks or even months.

Even in the short hours since the announcement was made, several contenders have emerged in the leadership race. Foremost among them are leader of the MPP's Hosian Caucus Oumil Sarr, who would attempt to appeal to the party's traditional opposition, the Hosian Democrats, with a economic liberalisation programme. Her closest rival is the State Assembly Chief Whip Momodou Jawara, a nationalist firebrand and close associate of Chairman Ngum, who has worked extensively alongside the National Front in the past. Both have controversies and will need to do begin work immediately if they are to win over their colleagues.
