FORMAT XXXIV: a prestigious and glossy showcase for Istalia

Between music, colors and a lot of emotions the festival marked the rebirth of a nation that looks to the future with hope and desire to live

The lights turn off at Studio 2 of the SERIN National Sound Stages in Romula and on the 34th edition of FOMAT XXXIV after a great show that amazed Istalia and the world.

Presented and conducted by the SERIN number one host Gianluca Ghini, FOMAT XXXIV represented a great opportunity for the Istalia not only to celebrate music but also to reaffirm its presence on the international scene. After difficult years, the organization of an event of this magnitude marked the return of the country among the nations capable of welcoming the world, showing its newfound stability and desire to share through art.

This year's edition, entitled "Peace through Music", carries with it a profound meaning: the name chosen, in fact, is not accidental, it is the expression of the nation's strong desire to leave behind the wounds of war and to build a future based on peace and collaboration, a message shared by many people through the world after the difficult decades of 56th century. The FOMAT of 5628 thus becomes a symbol of rebirth for Istalia, an Istalia that longs for peace, lightheartedness and hope.

Representing Istalia on stage was the song "E' solo un attimo" by singer-songwriter Marco Tommasi, a song that, among all those submitted to SERIN's judgement, despite the fact that tecnical doubts were raised, was chosen because according to the selection committee it fully embodies the spirit of the moment in the country. The lyrics, emotional and full of meaning, tell of the beauty of life and the importance of living it to the full, a message that has matured in the hearts of the population after the long years of conflict and suffering. The choice of this song is a further sign of the country's desire to look forward with optimism, aware of the value of every moment.

The Festival gave the audience moments of great spectacle and competition, with performances that kept everyone in suspense. The challenges between the competing songs were fought until the last vote, with some songs that quickly won the favor of the jury and the public. The Soundstage was a riot of colors and passion, with representatives of the different nations enthusiastically supporting their artists, waving flags and singing choruses. In the end, after an exciting wait, the victory went to "A Racing Heart/Racing Bihotz-taupadak", performed by the Etxea Kundriatian band "IRO", a song that stood out for its engaging melody, earning the title of winner of the 34th edition of the festival by just one point more than the second-place finisher, the Likatonian band "Sunset Reverie" with their song "Someday". The Istalian representative, Marco Tommasi, instead, unded up in third place with his "È solo un attimo".

This edition of FOMAT was charaterized also by a bit of political controversy followed the decision to accept the participation of a band representing the Legionary Kundrati as well as the Military Marching Band of Rutania, with many grimacing at and criticizing the acceptance of representatives from two extreme fascist dictatorships.
While SERIN, in response, declared that it was a deliberate decision to leave politics out of FOMAT, the audience present at the Festival strongly expressed their opposition to the presence of the Rutaniana and Legiona Kundrati representatives, whistling and howling at the artists during the performance, so much so that both musical groups left the stage as soon as their performances ended without spending time with the host Gianluca Ghini. Notable the shout from the audience against the rutanian representative once entered the stage: "Thaller dogs, out of Istalia!". Another moment of political tension arose when the Kundrati voting representatives announced that they refused to include the Etxea Kundratian "IRO" in their vote ranking (although considered by the organizers as placed in last position in their ranking).

Despite this little flaw, FOMAT XXXIV of 5628 was a great show, an exciting event, which left a deep mark in the hearts of the audience and the artists. Throughout the duration of the festival, the performances brought the rhythms and sounds of the participating countries to the stage, transforming the theater into a crossroads of cultures and traditions. Each artist has been able to tell, through their music, the identity and soul of their country. More than a simple competition, FOMAT XXXIV has confirmed itself as an event capable of uniting different nations in the universal language of music, strengthening its role as a prestigious international showcase.

Submission Guidelines
The deadline for submitting songs will be 21 April 2025 at 11:59 PM EST. It is up to the nation to decide which songs to submit however songs should be based off your nation's culture. The Kundrati Union will play it's own song at the event however it will not be included in any votes. You may submit your song via Discord at #fomat or on here by replying to this message.

General Event Information and Judging Information
Nations may begin voting for the submitted songs when they are told to do so (which should be during the morning or afternoon of 22 April 2025). Should there be any delay in this acknowledgement we will let you know. Once that acknoweldgement is sent you will have 2 days to vote. Please vote via Direct Messaging @hyraemous on Discord. If you are unable to do so please let me know.
Once voting is closed the final show will start and the winner will be revealed.

In this FOMAT, the jury will get a vote. There will be 3 jurors. The jury gets one vote for the entire ceremony.

There will be a points system for this FOMAT event. The rules are that you are prohibited from voting for your own song and that it is up to the nation voting to determine how they have voted. The highest ranked song will get the highest amount of points which shall be determined by how many songs are submitted. For example if there are seven songs submitted for FOMAT your top ranked song vote will have seven points attached. Points go down by one for each subsequent vote (so your second ranked song will have six points attached, your third ranked song will have five points attached, and so on). The winner will be determined by the most amount of points.

In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by the audience from the songs that tied. The audience will have an hour (IRL) via poll to vote on which song is the best in their opinion. If that poll also ties the decision will be made via random draw.

The Dynamo Arena in Lutzenkamp, Dundorf will host the forty-third edition of the Festival of Music and Arts in Terra, and as usual, EVERY country is invited to partecipate. In the beautiful state of Julstoch, surrounded by the mountains, artists from all across Terra will perform and one of them will be deemed the best. Are you ready to find out who?!

Deadlines :
1) Submission of song: will happen here on the forum as well as the FOMAT channel in the official discord. Starts now until February 11 at 2:59 PM (UTC +1).

2) Voting: each contestant will rank the songs (voting method TBD) and send to me (TheNick) via Discord DM. The voting period starts on February 11 at 3 PM (UTC +1) and concludes on February 15 at 3 PM (UTC +1).

FOMAT XLIII will take place on Discord on February 15 at 9 PM (UTC+1), and the results will be later published on the forum as well.
