Alright, I'm going to waste your time today by posting a final rant and announcement of my departure this game, again, and my reasoning for it.
So if you're not interested, please carry on.
Once my honeymoon time ended upon my return to the game, I found myself falling back into the same cycle that pushed me out the first time. It took a lot of reflection, self-acceptance, and realization to understand some of the issues in my RP that add to the systematic issues in this community.
The first reason: my time in Lourenne is coming to an end. Permanently. I've found that while my presence on the being was a great catalyst and inspiration for other nations, it also served as a hindrance for others and myself. I've often found myself trapped in my own device: "how can I leave to another nation considering all the success I've created here?". I'm bored and exhausted, but I can't just leave.
I've realized. I cannot see myself playing anywhere other than Lourenne --and from that moment on, I knew it was time to go. My attachment and connection to the memories I've created in this nation are too strong. So I was left with two options: lower my standards or leave the game. I've chosen the latter.
I don't plan on returning to Lourenne. I think it's time to flip the page on a global narrative and gravitas focused solely on Lourenne and it's successes. The global community needs space to grow, it can't do that as long as I'm in Lourenne.
The second: this game is too hyper focused on personal ambition and has no direction. Before you think and say I sound arrogant, yes this is my opinion, if that's what you think of me so be it.
I feel like we're all too focused on being better than each other. I haven't fully found the actual reason for this, but we are all so pitted against each other in this odd game of geopolitics to the point where some of our RP is just straight up taking out an OOC issue. I've been a participant in this, so I'm not going to point fingers here. And I'm not saying it's specific people, but we've got to be honest with ourselves here: why does the game get as toxic as it gets? Truly. Competition? Is there really competition with a writing-based game?
Adding on to this: when was the last time we saw a true arc or post focusing on feel-good topics? Sports? Culture? Food? We're all so hell-bent on geopolitics that we've forgotten the true political and world building aspect of this game. Hell, we don't even fully READ each others posts for the same reason! We've lost the point here guys. It's all ambition, it's all competition, is all about being better than x nation, ignoring this nation etc. Again, I'm not pointing fingers, but this is the vibe, something of course that I have been a part of in the past. And there's nothing wrong with being ambitious or competitive, the issue is we've made that the ONLY thing that matters in this game, and it is unhealthy.
At the end of the day, it's a max of 10-15 of us in this community and we spend it trying to be better than each other OR spend hours discussing why we hate each other. We've seen players come and go, but from what I'm seeing, the environment we've created is unhealthy and needs to change.
I'm unfortunately at the end of my story, both in an OOC and IC perspective. I don't think I want to play this game for a while, nor can I remain in Lourenne and continue to contribute towards a positive community. I won't say I'm permanently leaving. I'm sure I'll get the itch to play again, but it won't be for a long while. I would offer as advice that we need to return to the things that we enjoy to write. We need to change the atmosphere to something positive and welcoming, not the subtle personal attacks we characterize under the veil of banter. And here's me, the idealistic one trying to lecture you all. Not my intention, but I think my opinions are at least valid as a person who spent time and effort trying to get this game into a great spot. Take this information as you will, but it's not meant as a personal attack, rather, realignment and a gentle nudge.
Take care.
