908 - 5642: Ezrahim (Beiteynu vs Neset)
#1
10 October 5584

Leonard Benowitz, the CEO of Hadayim, took off his coat and cast it on the luxurious chair in the corner. They were alone, the door shut, with former Prime Minister Anna Kadiyot lying on that bed for more than a decade. The sound of medical equipment hissing and beeping filled the silence.

He went around the bed and fiddled with the machinery, lowering the morphine's dosage. Then gazed out the window for a few seconds, before turning on the spot to the other corner, sitting on the other chair.

"You fool, Kadiyot", he said; "I ought to teach you the history of the Yeudi People and the Yeudi Homeland, properly, Anna".

Anna Kadiyot, mumbled breathlessly, looking at him, very much not in a coma.

Lachash (Whisper) is allegedly a conversation that took place in 5584 between Leonard Benowitz and Anna Kadiyot, in a room in the Metropolitan Hospital of Yishelem. It tells the story of Beiteynu and the Neset; and how, and why, both are forever locked in the Ezrahim.

"The world easily forgets Anna"; he smirked, looking at her feeble attempts to control her body.

"We're scum. Barbarians. We're all migrants. The Canrillaise, the Majatrans, the Yeudis. All sharing the same blood origins from the unmapped wastelands of Temania", he paused, crossed his fingers. Gazed out the window again, at the bright morning sun.

"The world forgets, Anna, that all of us were born out of the Qedarite Migrations - colonisers, chased out by barbarians".

"And that fucking sea - the world forgets how it actually got its name. We're destined to drown in those waters".

"Those silly little stones in the middle of nowhere...wishful thinking in the search of the Holy Land. Even thousands of years later. Ariel kept at it. Wishful thinking. Then Elior..."; he smirked, yet again, nodding, as Anna tried to speak. And failed.

"Yes Anna", taunting with his words and his eyes; "and then you and I were born".

Anna's eyes glistened with hatred; Leonard could feel it. He laughed like a maniac.

"Your obsession with those fucking stones is out of this world", taking out a flask, uncorking it and drinking in silence for a few moments. "That idiot of our common ancestor, he dug our graves forever. Would it be so hard just to scold your children. He had to envision things instead..."

"And you had to go about dreaming of silly hegemony didn't you", his smile faded; "Majatra wasn't going through enough shit already".

He stared at Anna with visceral hatred himself; she was trying to speak. And failed, once again.

"My liege please, tell me the cause of this concern...", Benowitz made a move to get off the stool [...]

An earth shuttering thunder masks the distant cheers of the crowd outside. No rain. [...]

Distrust swelled the air; he stared at the bowing man, chest heaving, his mind torn, his heart racing. [...]

The medical equipment still hissed and beeped, filling the silence of the hospital room.

"Paranoid, irrational and obsessed maniacs", he sighed. "Yes, you are, Anna; you and your paranoid irrational and obsessed people". Leonard suddenly stood up, looking away from his crippled enemy. He turned to the window, once again.

"You are never getting those gems back".

"We told you, Benowitz...", a crackled voice.

He turned, his eyes glistening with fear. Anna's words reeked of menacing fragility.

"What is yours...";

Will be ours, he mouthed, terror in his spine.

"Will be ours".

Undisclosed location, Yishelem

She looked at it; eyes burning with obsession, greed and hope for the good that would rain upon Terra and the Yeudi People.

More, she thought.

Sponsored by the Holy Luthori Empire.

Bankrolled by the Empire of Canrille.

Empowered by the Empire of the Jelbic Peoples.

Enabled by the Anantonese Empire.

By the Neset. The Equifund. The Vamaj. The Bannerpakt. The AllComm. The MSCO. The 3rd Point Federation. All there.

The beginning of the end.

Leonard Benowitz shook it off; the momentary fear.

He stood up, fiddled with the machinery and upped Anna Kadiyot's morphine dosage, just a tad.

"You know-", he began to say; "you've proclaimed these lands as the homeland of the Yeudi People with such arrogance it is astounding to me that your lot fail to realise we're never coming back. Homeland of what? Of your dreams, or ours?"

A slight spasm in his neck, he turned to look at Anna, once again.

"Yes yes- your lot carry the only royal blood of this land, but my blood is the one you spilled all over it", eyes morose, exhausted.

"And you thought it'll last forever, didn't you?!", his tone slightly raised, he approached the bed and bent over. Face to face, the marks of an ancient strife undeniable on both the Benowitz looking down and the Kadiyot looking up.

"You fucking bitch".

19 August 5599

Maria Kadiyot stared at the empty room absentmindedly; the room where Anna Kadiyot lay once. It was quiet and there was a sense of descending peace upon her; restless, yes - but with a feeling of tranquility, as if impending doom was somehow a salvation.

There was no beating it. There was no winning it. There was no plotting it.

Oh father, forgive us - for your heirs will abide no more.

"Step down", he casually threw his coat on the sofa in the corner and began rolling up his sleeves. Maria Kadiyot, the Prime Minister of the Homeland State of Beiteynu, one of the Kadmonim, eyed Michael Benowitz, President of Hadayim, the other of the Kadmonim, with a mischievous look.

"You really think you're going to manage to punish us, aren't you", she smirked.

"You blew up a nucle-"

"That was not a question"; she stood up rather abruptly and surprisingly smooth for her age. "We may be fading into obscurity ourselves once again", she started for the door, "but your diaspora is diminishing also, along with your Canrillaise and Luthorian and Jelbic schmucks".

Benowitz opened his mouth just as Kadiyot turned to face him.

"You really think this entire thing is accidental, don't you - no no, not a question either", she interrupted.

"Get it through your head, assholes",

"What is yours",

"Will be ours".

And she left.

"I pity you".

"You're no better these days either, asshole". He crossed his fingers in contemplation. "Are we destined to pay for the mistakes of our Father, Benowitz? Or are we too much of an idiot to even see them". He raised his head. "Look at us, you and me both."

Benowitz hesitated; then confidence sprung up quickly. "You're a monster. You and your fucking lineage".

"Why can't we both see things the same way", he sighed.

"Because you're a fool".

"Am I?!"

Benowitz didn't respond.

"We were so close. So close. So goddamn close". Now, he hesitated. "Come home".

Benowitz blinked.

Catherine raised her head and looked at the others; the others, not the others.

"We're in the endgame, now".

"They're both deprived of their expansionism; this is it", said Catherine Benowitz.

"This has cost us too much, Catherine", one of the others whispered in agony. She thought about it, looking endlessly sad, biting her lower lip. She recalled looking at that bitch, blindfolded, and wondered if she regretted all of them having tricked the schmucks into doing that unspeakable thing.

"Have you spoken to Romula?", she eyed the Kalopian-Yeudi Aristocrat. She got a nod.

"Ethan, you're in place with the new premiership?"; he winked in response; curiously, the Goldblooms were absent from the room.

Alas, bad guys look good; good guys look bad.

"Tov yoter lehoulam", she said in finality.
