Knoerr and HKA trounced, FKP-SNP surge in October.

In a reversal of fortunes, the Free Conservative Party (FKP) and the Social Nationalist Party (SNP) are the "winners" of the October, 5700 Dorvish general elections. Outgoing State Chancellor Andreas Knoerr acknowledged the defeat and stated that the will of the people had been brought forth to the Hosian-Conservative Alliance (HKA). "We did what we believed to be in the best interest of the Dorvish people and that's a fact. Anyone who says differently is being overly critical." The outgoing State Chancellor's twilight years were spent marred in controversy and scandal, including the largest ever defense-related scandal in Dorvish history in which he later sacked the Inspector-General of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense Generaloberst (Army) Georg Bierkamp and Foreign Minister Karolina Johner (HKA) for failures associated with the scandals.

Of the 550 seats in the State Council, the Free Conservative Party captured 191 seats; coming in second place was the Social Nationalist Party with 130 seats. The Blue and Orange Coalition as it is coming to be called, will posses 321 seats just 16 seats shy of a supermajority. The former State Chancellor's party, the Hosian-Conservative Alliance (HKA), captured 93 seats and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) captured 87 seats. The Dorvish Workers' Party (DAP), often seen as an alternative party in Dorvish politics, captured 29 seats. The remaining 20 seats are filled with independent candidates and minor parties.

The rumored coalition between the FKP and the SNP will see the FKP lead, with its party leader, Yannik Kahl eyeing the State Chancellery and SNP leader, Piet von Wachter to step into the Vice State Chancellor role and potentially another senior Council of Ministers position.

Vice State Chancellor announces "New Core Modernization Program".

December, 5709

Vice State Chancellor Piet von Wachter announced a new initiative today with representatives from the Natural Resources Technical Management Corporation, known commonly as the NTVS, regarding Dorvik's role in nuclear power. For centuries the Dorvish have been the so-called "gold standard" in peaceful nuclear power but, according to the Vice State Chancellor, that has become lacking. While the State Chancellor Yannik Kahl has attempted to subvert some criticism for his lack of foreign affairs moves he has not neglected the malaise that has befallen the once noble Kingdom of Dorvik. Announced earlier at a press conference from the State Chancellery, the Vice State Chancellor announced that the Dorvish government would be providing nearly $1.5b to modernize and update the several dozen nuclear power plants and ancillary facilities within the country over the next 10 years. The move comes at a time when the Dorvish government is seeking to lower unemployment and reduce energy costs across the country in the face of growing economic concerns within the Kahl administration.

The program, known as the New Core Modernization Program (Dundorfian: Neues Kernkraft-Modernisierungsprogramm), will be formally launched in January, 5710. Legislation was drafted in the summer of 5708 and was completed and passed by the State Council in late 5709 to fund and launch the program. It will be overseen by the NTVS and the Ministry of Science and Technology as well as an independent commission designed to monitor fraud and waste.

Ben Saudek, who was Foreign Minister from September, 5700 to late 5705 and subsequently Yosefine Nägelein, who served as Saudek's replacement and was ultimately sacked by the State Chancellor earlier this month, has been formally replaced by long-time Foreign Office civil servant, Ida Heisig in the closing days of 5709. The incoming Foreign Minister, a member of the Free Conservative Party, will have her hands full in reshaping Dorvish foreign policy and working towards rebuilding Dorvik's involvement in both the continent and the wider Terran geopolitical sphere.

Trouble in the North? An End to the FKP-SNP Alliance?

There is growing concern that the government lead by Free Conservative Party State Chancellor will fall in the coming, October, 5720 elections. The State Chancellor's approval ratings have tanked over the course of the 17 year State Chancellery, one filled with promise and hope, has been marred by tensions with their coalition partners, diplomatic malaise and overall stagnation. One of the major silver linings of the Kahl's State Chancellery has been the ascension to the Majatran-Artanian Treaty Organization (MATO) which has bolstered the Dorvish international profile and economic situation but only slightly and many believe that "boost" is falling off the metaphorical cliff. There has been continued concern over the governments "inaction", according to political experts, regarding the "economic malaise" that has befallen Dorvik in recent months but the government contends that it is temporary due to a harsh and late winter for the northern peninsula.

Fracturing alliances, SNP to push King and Kaiser for authority?

January, 5723

Tensions flared today in the State Council as lawmakers entered into a melee over several pieces of legislation, a sight rarely seen in the halls of the State Council. The State Chancellery of Yannik Kahl has been anything but "historic" for the Kingdom and has drawn the ire of His Majestic Highness, the King and Kaiser for its inaction in several fields. The fragile FKP-SNP alliance is held together by threads according to unnamed sources within both parties, with the SNP seeking to curry favor with His Majestic Highness, in hopes that the King and Kaiser will use his special powers provided by the Constitution of the Kingdom of Dorvik to name a new government in the time of crisis. While the SNP has the ear of the King and Kaiser, so does the Dorvish Armed Forces which have remained politically aloof for several centuries now despite their influence and hold on Dorvish foreign and domestic policy. There have been reports of increased military visits to the King and Kaiser but these are described as "routine" by the Dorvish Armed Forces' Supreme General Staff.

BREAKING NEWS: His Majestic Highness, the King and Kaiser dismisses Kahl government.

June, 5723

His Majestic Highness, the King and Kaiser Maximilian has announced that he has agreed to utilize his constitutional emergency powers to dismiss the current government. The dismissal, which is effective immediately, prompted the now outgoing State Chancellor Yannik Kahl to condemn the move. "This is an undemocratic move by His Majestic Highness, the King and Kaiser. The Free Conservative Party and the Social Nationalist Party have governed Dorvik for the past several years with steadfast determination. This removal is dangerous to the future of multiparty democracy." His Majestic Highness has deemed the current State Council to be "fit to serve" but it is unlikely that a coalition will be able to be generated from the current State Council, leading some to speculation that the the King and Kaiser might dismiss the current State Council. The King and Kaiser has appointed Wilhelm von Bahr as the interim State Chancellor, von Bahr a member of the Social Nationalist Party remains a popular figure and leading member of the State Council. It is expected he will name a new interim Council of Ministers in early July, 5723 while negotiations are on-going.

His Majestic Highness, the King and Kaiser, who assumed the throne in early 5721 takes over for Maximilian I. Franz III (b. May, 5578) ruled until 5671 when he passed in his sleep. He was succeeded by his son, Franz von Faust-Essen (b. February, 5599), as Franz IV. Franz IV ruled until early 5696 when he passed from natural causes, he was succeeded by his son Franz von Faust-Essen (b. December, 5620) as Franz V who ruled until 5690 and was subsequently succeeded by his son Maximilian Franz von Faust-Essen (b. June, 5641) as Maximilian I. Maximilian ruled until early 5721 when he passed and was succeeded by his son Maximilian Franz von Faust-Essen (b. August, 5662) as Maximilian II.

There is no love lost between the Free Conservative Party and the Social Nationalist Party which has seen a breakdown in relations over the past several years. The current leadership of the Social Democratic Party of Dorvik (SDPD) has continually refused to enter into coalition agreements with both the Free Conservative Party and the Hosian Conservative Alliance due to "..deep ideological differences..." whereas they view the Social Nationalist Party with skepticism. It is likely that the SNP will be forced to contend with a number of independents in the State Council to support their coalition, likely entering into an agreement with the Dorvish Workers' Party, a Kaiserist party, which has remained on the "fringe" of Dorvish politics for several decades now.

State Chancellor von Bahr puts together slim coalition.

July, 5723

Wilhelm von Bahr has scored a unique win in that he has managed to secure the support of several rogue members of the Hosian Conservative Alliance and the Free Conservative Party, combined with the the Dorvish Workers' Party's 29 votes, and with 18 independents for a total of 192 votes for his new government. The State Chancellor, now 49 was seen on the grounds of the State Council for several days following his appointment as interim State Chancellor. The 192 votes will provide him a leg up on the Free Conservative Party which has promised to vote "No" on any government put forth by the interim government appointed by His Majestic Highness, the King and Kaiser Maximilian II. The SDP has stated they will abstain as to not "...interfere with the will of His Majestic Highness but will monitor the situation and new government closely."

His Majestic Highness, the King and Kaiser Maximilian II has condemned the assassination attempt on Coburan King Adane II in Trigunia. "This malicious attack on King Adane II is a threat to the very soul of the nation and the heart of the Coburan people. We wholly condemn this attack and we offer any assistance that might be possible to the Coburan people and monarchy at their time of need." Dorvish Foreign Minister Ernst von Motha-Geyr condemned the assassination attempt alongside the State Chancellor who spoke to the Dorvish press shortly after the attack was reported.

Dorvish government passes oil and natural gas funded UBI.

Minister of Finance Niclas Ruh and Dorvish Trade Commissioner Karl von und zu Gießen announced that the State Council had passed legislation providing for the natural gas and oil profits to be shared with the Dorvish people. In a move that has long been debated and often posed controversial in Dorvish politics, the State Council has approved for a percentage of all Dorvish oil and natural gas profits from Northern Oil to be paid directly to the Dorvish people. The exact amount will largely be based on the profit amount generated from such ventures and will managed by the Ministry of Finance, the basic payment however will be fixed yearly and will be publicly provided so that the Dorvish people are aware of that amount. The payments will come monthly at the beginning of the month but individuals can opt for bi-weekly payments in the middle of the month and end of the month or a lump sump payment through their Province's Ministry of Finance representatives.

Dorvik is one of the few countries on Terra that has attempted or "flirted", as some experts state, with the concept of Universal Basic Income (UBI) and several times have tried it for periods of time across the country, notably in Greater Kordusia. A UBI program is maintained in Haldor where each citizen who resides within Haldor's metropolitan region received a basic income of 1,000 Dorvish Dolgars a month and the program has endured for several centuries, with little interruption. The new program, which was proposed by State Chancellor Wilhelm von Bahr to the State Council in late 5723, finally touches on the often stockpiled Dorvish oil and natural gas profits which have long been "hoarded" by the Foreign Economic Council and others according to Ansgar Kornberg, an economics professor at the Saalfeld Institute of Public Administration and Policy of the University of Largonia.

The program is expected to start in January, 5725.

Dorvish FM and Trade Commissioner headed to Mordusia for talks.

Dorvish Foreign Minister Ernst von Motha-Geyr and Dorvish Trade Commissioner (also General-Director of the Foreign Economic Council) Karl von und zu Gießen announced that in early November, 5724 they would be attending a state visit to Mordusia for trade talks. Dorvik and Mordusia maintain what the Dorvish Trade Commission note as "limited trade relations" between the two nations and internally the Dorvish have sought to develop foreign markets outside of Artania for the past several months, working behind the scenes to develop a plan and Mordusia appears to be the first stop. Over the course of several days in early November, 5724 the Dorvish FM and the Dorvish Trade Commissioner will attend a series of high-level talks in Mordusia to focus on driving mutual investment, incentives for both Dorvish and Mordusian corporations to do business in each nation and developing greater free trade between the two nations.

"No arms race with Luthori." according to Dorvish State Chancellor

State Chancellor Wilhelm von Bahr was questioned recently about the recent announcement that Luthori would be expanding their naval power exponentially in the coming years. The State Chancellor replied to members of both the domestic and foreign press that the actions of Dorvish neighbors do not concern them at all and that the development of a nations defense capabilities are within their sovereign prerogative. "I certainly hope that the Luthorian naval program goes well for them and they don't experience some of the growing pains that we've had over our history." The State Chancellor kept the mood light despite rumors that the Dorvish intended to kick off their own "rearmament" program.

One reporter asked if the Dorvish had any plans to "respond" to the Luthorian announcement, the State Chancellor noted that the Dorvish Navy was undergoing a massive modernization and "refresh" after several years of mismanagement underneath the previous government. This comes on the heels of the announcement that the Dorvish aircraft carriers have largely been drydocked for the past decade for a variety of issues, including upgrades and updates to the Dorvish nuclear aircraft carriers that were sidelined due to budgetary issues. The Dorvish have maintained less of presence worldwide then they have in previous centuries but this recent uptick might prompt that to change.
