Police wipe out massive Democracy Protest in Port Swedes
17 fatalities, 146 injuries in most serious clash in recent Vrassan History

Port Swedes, Duchy of Vrassa
December 1, 5557

Police flank protestors in what protestors described as "police riot"

The pro-democracy protests scored their bloodiest chapter to date as a preliminary clash between armed protestors and Duchy Police in Port Swedes turned into a street battle that left 17 dead and 146 people seriously injured. More than 600 protestors marched in Port Swedes demanding an end to the Monarchy. Most of the protestors were armed with clubs, batons, shields and armor, and Police report that they were prepared for a fight. The group was initially met by a large group of counter protestors calling themselves the "Black Brigade", who are a broad coalition of anti-fascists in Kalistan. When the two factions met in the streets, a melee, started by Black Brigade members ensued.

Riot police were called to the scene by the police who were on site to try to keep the march peaceful, and when riot police showed up and tried to push in between the two groups, pro-democracy protestors began attacking the cops. It wasn't long before a shot was fired, at which point, the armed police fell back to a rally point and began firing tear gas into the crowd.

Initially both the Pro-Democracy protestors and the Black Brigade retreated from the gas cannisters, with the Black Brigade heading north toward the Port, while the Pro-Democracy groups moved south into the Downtown area. But the Democrats were soon joined by a larger contingent of individuals, who took control and began coordinating movement via radio among specific elements. "These seriously looked like militia tactics," said Captain Don Rogers, of the Port Swedes Police Force. "We had groups of between 10 and 12 individuals moving between buildings, and taking up positions on street corners. I ordered my men to evacuate the place we were at, because it looked like we were about to be in a war."

With the police abandoning their area, a newly reinforced Black Brigade returned from the port area and occupied Swede Park, which is usually a concert venue downtown. They also set up a security perimeter, and were sending small groups out to try to locate the Democratic Protestors. As soon as one group was found, a firefight ensued between the two armed groups. Police eventually returned with elements of the Militia who called on Democracy Protestors to stand down. There was a brief lull, in the fighting, and then the police began taking fire from the side.

Fearing being flanked, the Police and militia moved forward toward the Black Brigade, who turned out to be supporting the police by keeping up suppressing fire while the trapped security units made it out of their endangered position. Once police regrouped in Swede Park, they joined Black Brigade members, and began assaulting the Democracy Protestors. The fighting was so fierce that some protestors began referring to the amount of force used as "excessive" while some others called it a "police riot." The firefight and subsequent melee combat lasted for more than an hour and 45 minutes. Over all, 6 pro-Democracy protestors, 2 Black Brigade members, 4 Militia members, and 5 uniformed police officers were killed in the battle, while more than ₭6 million in damage was received to downtown businesses. At the end of the fight, what was left of the pro-democracy rear guard surrendered to the Police: most had fled the scene of the battle by that time. 52 were arrested and taken into custody and the wounded were taken to three local hospitals, were 16 remain in critical condition.

The Chancellor, Dame Lindsey Ontiveros-Maxwell, immediately called for a curfew in Vrassa, and has mobilized Army Group North to assist the police in preventing further disorder. While this is not technically permitted under law, it is also not forbidden, and Dame Ontiveros said the curfew and crack down on protest was temporary. "We have to root out these malcontents," said the Chancellor. "They must know that street battles with the cops and the Anarchists are not acceptable in this Nation. This Government will take all necessary steps to ensure that this sort of street fighting vigilantism doesn't happen again. And we are going to press and press and press until we get every last one of these murderous thugs." There has been unofficial reports of more planned violence in the coming year, but the government has not confirmed that. "If there are plans we will be ready for them" said Dame Ontiveros. She also said they are looking into the activities of several civil society groups who may be instigating this violence. "It is nothing less than an attempt to destroy this Empire," said the Chancellor, though many are starting to wonder if her constant statements are hyperbole bordering on paranoia.

And yet, if you talk to protestors, they seem to support the Chancellor's characterization. "At some point, the Government is going to have to listen to us," said one Pro-Democracy Protestor, who was arrested and is speaking on condition of anonymity so as to not prejudice any future court proceedings against them. "We the people have the power, and what's more, we know how to use it. Mark my words, there are way more of us than you know, and we're in your homes, your schools, your government buildings. We're legion, and We won't stop until either we die or we get rid of the snakes in Kaliburg."

Another protestor, who did not take part in the violence, was more measured. "We just want to talk to the Emperor. To tell him what we are upset about. He is so far removed from us. Why not come hear us out in January, at Democracy Forum in Neveras City? Neveras is safe--its on his side like Suldanor. It's not Eshar or Gendaris. It's not like this... The last one in Sulari was peaceful. The Forum is a place where we can go and speak where we know they will listen to us. Let him come there and hear us, for once. Let him hear the voice of the people, ring out loud and clear. I think if he just hears what we are saying, he has to listen. He seems like a pretty nice guy. I think we can reason with him."

It is highly unlikely that the Emperor will actually attend the Fourth Democracy Forum in Neveras in January. Both monarchs have been strongly advised against attending. But if there is a chance that an appearance by the Emperor would defuse some of the tension in the Empire, he might be tempted to attend. "Yeah, let him have all his security there," said the democracy protestor. "We just want an audience with the man. He's not a god... He's not better than you or me. Let him come talk to us. And see if we can't come to something..."

Port Swedes was quiet overnight, and the curfew is expected to last more than 2 weeks to quell anymore violence. At that time, the rainy season will be upon Vrassa, and protests will likely not flare up again for the season.

ASSASSINATION- His Imperial Majesty Murdered in Nevaras
Chancellor in Critical Condition; Empire erupts in Violence; Empress in Gaduridos

Neveras City, Duchy of Nevaras
January 31, 5558

Emperor Fredrick II Ananto at home in Eveari earlier, next to Chancellor Dame Lindsey Ontiveros-Maxwell at Democracy Forum last night

The Emperor is dead. Long Live the Emperor.

Emperor Fredrick II Ananto has been murdered by terrorists in a coordinated attack following last night's "Democracy Forum" in Nevaras. The Emperor was pronounced dead at 4:23 am local time at Neveras City General where he was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds. Doctors did everything they could to save his life, including attempting to medically induce a coma, but the wounds were too severe, and the Emperor could not be saved. Two drivers and four members of Imperial Security were also murdered in the incident. Also wounded in the attack was Chancellor of the Empire Dame Lindsey Ontiveros-Maxwell, who is in critical condition in the Hospital at this moment, three security officers, and two bystanders. Both the guards and the bystanders are expected to make full recovery. The future of the Chancellor is uncertain at the moment.

Police are investigating the situation in Neveras, and few details are known. What is publicly available mostly from witnesses is that following a particularly contentious Democracy Forum, where the late Emperor actually addressed the audience, several members of the audience continually interrupted the speeches from the Emperor and the Chancellor. As one protestor was taken out, another jumped up and continued on. The disruption appeared to be coordinated, and the Chancellor even announced that unless there is decorum, and members of the Government were allowed to speak, the forum could not continue. The Emperor actually announced that reforms were being considered to include more public input into policy, and suggested that the Single Party Act could be repealed to allow for competitive elections. But nothing satisfied the crowd, who booed the Emperor and the Chancellor when they attempted to speak.

As the tension in the room increased, the Emperor's security component stepped in and informed the Emperor that a large crowd had formed outside the building, and the entrances were no longer secure. The Emperor nodded and prepared to depart from the stage, when someone shouted "He has a gun!" This caused immediate panic in the room as all audience members immediately jumped up and rushed for the exit. The Emperor and Chancellor were both whisked off stage and through a secure area to their waiting cars. As the cars exited the underground parking ramp, they were met by armed protestors, who opened fire on the two vehicles from all sides. Judging by the wreckage, which was taken away shortly after police arrived on the scene, each car looked like it had been shot more than 40 times each by high powered, perhaps military grade automatic weaponry. The glass had been shot so many times on the Emperor's limo that it had shattered in some places, and it was believed that through the points it had been shattered, the fatal shots were fired at point blank range.

Violence ensues in the morning hours as coordinated attacks leave Emperor dead and several cities under insurgent control

Following the attack and the ensuing panic, the news spread of the Emperor's Assassination and nine cities erupted in mass violence, as supporters of the Emperor clashed with armed protestors who were activated to coordinate with the assassinations. There were reports of gun battles in Sulari, Yoshimi, Gendaris, Eshar/Senvias, Python, Vrassa and Neveras on the Mainland, and in Kaliburg and Dulnerstaad in Ananto. The police joined pro-Emperor civilian militia to battle pro-democracy militias, and it is clear that at least three battalions of Institutional Militia have joined the insurgent force. The Empress and Crown Princess Carolina were taken in the middle of the Night to Kaliburg International and flown to Gaduridos, where they will remain with Mark Ananto at his new home for the time being. As news spread that the Empress fled the country, pro-democracy forces cheered, but at least in Sulari, this was their downfall, because pro-Imperial units used the sounds of celebration to locate and ambush the insurgents.

In other places across the Empire, however, Insurgents are in control of several major points of Command and Control. Eshar and Gendaris have gone completely over to the Insurgency, while there is currently active conflict raging in Nevaras City, Port Swedes, Kaliburg and Yoshimi. The Militia has been activated, and most members are reported present, while the Acting Chancellor, Dame Jacqueline DuMont, who also serves as Foreign Minister, has ordered the Regular Army to be called up, and they will be in the field within 24 hours. There is no official comment from the sitting Government in Kaliburg at this hour, except the acknowledgement at 5am that "The Government of the Empire of Ananto and Kalistan stands by Her Imperial Majesty, Our Empress Pavlina I Ananto, and look forward to a time when we may grieve this horrific loss as one people, together here in Kalistan. But this cowardly act of terror and this criminal act of public violence will not go unanswered. Our job now is to find those who did this, and end their threat to this nation once and for all." The Acting Chancellor reportedly accepted the resignation of 13 Deputies, all from Kalistan Proper, who have chosen to take sides with the Insurgency, but all other Deputies remain loyal.

This situation is rapidly unfolding.

Anantonese Insurgents surrender following devastating losses near capital
Kundrati Support Acknowledged in Clearing Island

Kaliburg, Grand Duchy of Ananto
February 12, 5558

Institutional Militia are Deputized to keep order during nightly Curfews across Island

Insurgents in Ananto have been completely routed, as the last strongholds east of Kalibug fell to combined Regular, Militia and Kundrati pressure. The last battle in the two week-long Island Campaign was a pitched effort that caused more than 120 casualties between all combatants, and was fought near the exurb known as Zappa River in the foothills of the Green Mountains. Insurgents had occupied a golf course which was located in a very defensible and strategic location along a main artery between Kaliburg and Dahriel which threatened to divide Kalistani Regulars.

When Insurgents finally surrendered, they had reportedly been in the Golf Course for more than a week with no running water. Most asked for food and medical attention, especially for trench foot, which was widely suffered by insurgents who were forced to hike across hilly terrain in near constant rain after being ejected from Kaliburg. "It's amazing that something as simple as a supply of dry socks can make the difference in weather like this," said Captain Karl Morrison, of the Regular Infantry. "This is something that the militia could have taught these people, but in Ananto, the militia is on our side, not theirs."

Capture of the last insurgent strong point in Ananto has already yielded significant intelligence about the movement and the leadership structure. Rising to the top of the list of criminals behind the assassination of the Emperor is none other than Leo Ingleton of Democracy Forum, who it appears also freelances as an author of underground political materials where he extolls the revolutionary nature of a strong police state, which is ethnically homogenous, and excises all differences in the name of national purity. Several of his books were found in the camp, including the one found most frequently called "Miscegenation of the Empire," which frequently used incredibly vulgar terms for the Empress, Her Imperial Majesty Pavlina I Ananto, that are too vulgar to print here.

"Surprise," said Regular Colonel Martina Echeverría, at the camp. "Ingleton is a fascist. Its something we always kind of knew all along, but what surprised me was how prolific an author he was. And how varied his topics were. Here we have a pamphlet on the proper role of women in a 'correctly organized society.' Here's one about the importance of cleaning one's toenails, as a matter of personal pride. And here is an article that links Kundrati with Beiteynu, and explains that both are more or less vampires and parasites toward Kalistan. It's just trash." Ingleton's primary fire was reserved for Baltusia, though. "He calls Baltusians mongrels of Indrala and Luthori, and says they are not fit to lick the heel of his boot in this one... He says they are only fit to cut our cane. It's a damn good thing he won't win, I think for everyone."

The Regulars also acquired a trove of operational intelligence, and both IBSI and Kundrati operatives have set to decrypting it. Once it is decrypted, it is expected that Kalistan will gain an edge as they move to wipe out the insurgencies in Odufaray and Vrassa which are for the most part stalemated.

As an update, Dame Ontiveros remains in critical but stable condition, and has been moved to Kaliburg, where she will no longer be under threat from those who wish her harm, and Dame DuMont continues to work with Kundrati in combatting those followers of Ingleton. In addition, The Acting Chancellor has deployed the 3rd Fleet to patrol the Straits to ensure that foreign nations do not take advantage of the disorder in Kalistan. There is still no time table for the Empress' return from Gaduridos, but she and the Crown Princess are reportedly safe and comfortable on Grand Duke Mark Ananto's estate, and the Government of Gaduridos is reportedly stepping up security around the compound to keep the Royal Family safe. The Acting Chancellor has said there is no word yet on a memorial service for the slain Emperor, but his remains were interred in the Ananto Mausoleum in Eveari five days after he was murdered, owing mostly to the iffy security situation in and around the Imperial home town.

Battle of Eshar ends in Victory for Regulars
With liquidation of last insurgents, manhunt for leadership continues

Eshar, Duchy of Odufaray
April 4, 5558

Eshar, the last hold out of the Insurgents is finally pacified with widespread property and infrastructure destruction

The anti-Monarchist insurgency is finally at an end. But the manhunt continues for the leaders of the movement that led to the death of the Emperor. Leo Ingelton is Kalistan's most wanted, and he is believed to still be in Kalistan. Also wanted are his co-conspirators James Wilson, Brent Guerrera, Katherine Talbot, Steven Brown, Alberto Gomez, and Henry Jones-Nettleson. Eshar joins the list of several Mainland cities that are significantly damaged. The battle for Kalistan's cities lasted for just over three months, and more than 12 million people are displaced.

The insurgencies in Suldanor and Neveras were quelled pretty quickly, due largely to lack of popular support. But in Odufaray, where violence was the widest spread, nearly the entirely Duchy was lost to Government for more than a month in February, before Regular forces arriving from the South, and supported by Institutional Militia and auxiliary units from Kundrati put Odufaray's cities under siege. Civilians were permitted to leave most of the occupied areas, and in the end downtown areas of Eshar, Gendaris, Senvias, Springfield, and Port Swedes remained under insurgent control.

Port Swedes was the first city to be recovered, as Kundrati marine units stormed the city from the port area, while Regular army pushed in from the west and south. More than 320 insurgents surrendered and loss of life was minimal. Senvias surrendered to Government forces five days later, and Odufaray remained in rebellion. Eshar refused to surrender after Gendaris fell, and Regular artillery was called in the begin bombing insurgents out of the downtown area. The last insurgents called for a cease fire last night and voted to surrender. Overall, more than 600 insurgents were killed in the combat, while more than 4200 surrendered and are being held and interrogated.

The commercial and residential centers of downtown Eshar, Gendaris and Springfield are all utterly destroyed. It will take years to rebuild and allow people and businesses to fully return. Dame DuMont, acting Chancellor of the Empire, has stated that the National Service Program will be sent into affected areas to begin working on temporary housing structures for displaced individuals, and repairs and restoration will likely be in the tens of billions. "More than the damage to the cities caused by occupation by the insurgents and then the taking back those cities," said Dame DuMont, "is the damage the insurgents did to the infrastructure in the areas they occupied. Several sections of the National Railway in Suldanor, Odufaray and Vrassa were utterly destroyed in an attempt to stop the Government from effectively moving along the rail line. Bridges were destroyed, crop land was utterly ruined, and the Port of Eshar is completely closed due to docks being destroyed and rubble being dumped into the harbor. This will end passenger ferry service between Ananto and Eshar for the time being, until the harbor can be cleared, if at all."

Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Pavlina I Ananto, who remains in Gaduridos has spoken on the tragedy:
Quote:"We are saddened by this entire tragic episode. Our heart is with our People, and it is our desire to return home as soon as security will permit and will do all we can to contribute to the restoration of our nation and the succor of our People."
The Empress said that she intends to return as soon as possible, but the Crown Princess will likely remain in Gaduridos until IBSI can assure her safety in Ananto.

As efforts now turn to finding the main conspirators, insurgents with operational knowledge of the inner workings of Democracy Forum and related groups will be interrogated by IBSI and their Kundrati colleagues. Dame DuMont stated that she believes most of the insurgents will be charged crimes related to civil disturbance, and will receive lighter sentences than the leaders of the movement, due to an expressed desire to re-integrate Kalistanis back into society. "Many of these people were used," said Dame DuMont. "Most of them had no military experience whatsoever, and most of them were sincere about their desire for reform and were swept up in this movement by demagogues. But it does no good for us to deliver harsh punishment onto those who can be rehabilitated and reintegrated into Kalistani Society, and in the creation of a future grievance against the Government, it might actually hurt the Empire more to punish all participants equally severely." The detention process will work to determine which category each captured insurgent fits into, and then based on any actionable intelligence, most could see parole within six months.

"Those who planned and executed the assassination of His Imperial Majesty, and who orchestrated this wide scale destruction in Kalistan will forget the definition of the word leniency, though," said Dame DuMont. "Once they are captured, it is King's Island for them, at the very least and we will see to it that the Trustees on the Island there give these terrorists a warm welcome."

Dame DuMont also commented on the recovery of the Chancellor of the Empire, Dame Ontiveros. "The Chancellor has entered physical therapy. The bullet wounds she suffered damaged her spine, collapsed her lungs, and left her with severe cognitive damage. It is unlikely that she will ever fully resume her life as it was before, and the doctors have said she has a less than three percent chance of ever walking again. But Lindsay is a strong willed lady. I have known her for a long time, and if she says she will walk again, she will. Meanwhile, I shall continue in my post serving Her Imperial Majesty until either I am allowed to return to my post in the Foreign Ministry, or Her Imperial Majesty gives me another task to fulfill." Dame DuMont has been serving in the position since the night of the shooting, and has passed a number of emergency measures by fiat while the Empress has been out of the nation. The emergency security fiat acts, including suspension of freedom of movement, suspension of certain rights in court, and the mandatory curfew, are now slated to end May 1st, and full civil liberties will be restored at that time.

Elements of the Kundrati Army and Navy will remain in Kalistan for the time being to serve with Kalistani Regular forces in a security role, and elements of Kundrati Intelligence will continue working with IBSI in monitoring both the borders with Lodamun and Baltusia, but also helping locate and capture the Democratic Forum Leadership, and co-conspirators in other groups.

Empress returns to Empire
Visits Odufaray for the first time and volunteers with Eshar rebuilding effort

Eshar Free City, Duchy of Odufaray
July 19, 5558

Empress stresses public service as she pitches in to the ongoing cleanup in Eshar

With six of the ten most wanted conspirators in the late Kalistani Insurgency now in custody of the IBSI, Acting Chancellor of the Empire, Dame Jacqueline DuMont has concurred with the Her Imperial Majesty's decision to return to the Empire from her six month sojourn in Gaduridos. But the Empress did return to Kaliburg. Instead, she directed that she be flown to Sulari International and then on to Eshar. Once in Eshar, she met with the Lord Mayor of the Free City and volunteered to join a civic work crew that was forming as an auxiliary to the NSP crews working in the area. Despite repeated requests for the Empress to let others work, Her Imperial Majesty would not be dissuaded from her efforts. She formally suspended her Imperial Prerogative "until further notice" and was assigned to a labor crew working to clear the Shore Park Neighborhood, a very badly damaged area that remains vacant even months after the fighting in the area was over.

After the day of work with the volunteers, the Empress was invited to give a speech. Though she still spoke slowly and carefully, with a fairly heavy Lurrian accent, her words were felt by those who remained to hear her speak, and were welcomed.
Quote:"We were not able to perform National Service as teenager before we came to Kalistan 7 years ago. But we recognize value of National Service to our Nation, and we wish to participate in service along with you, our People. Though it will not be in traditional manner, helping to rebuild is one way we can contribute to National Service Program that has made Kalistan great country. We appreciate opportunity, even limited to get to know our neighbors and fellow countrymen here. Today, and every day since these horrific events shook Nation, the people of Kalistan have worked very hard to put their lives back together. We cannot imagine hardship that people of this community and this Duchy have faced over last year because of the actions of few. But we wish for you all to know that we will stand here beside you until your community is rebuilt. We have suffered our own losses, and that hurt is irreparable, but working together, we can work through it, heal, and become stronger as one people. We intend to remain in Odufaray until job is done and your home is rebuilt better than before."

Following her first day of work, the Empress shook hands of several people she worked with and then left the cleanup scene along with Imperial Security to her ducal estate outside Eshar, which was itself badly damaged in the fighting, but remains mostly in tact--This was in fact the first opportunty she has had to spend a night in her own mansion since being named Duchess of Odufaray. Most of the volunteers she worked with were impressed by the Empress' appearance and contribution to the work effort. "I think I got to know the Empress a little better today," said Monica Sheffield of Eshar who worked on the same crew as the Empress. "She always seemed very remote but when she is standing 15 feet away from you, lifting planks and cinder blocks and getting cuts and scrapes just like the rest of us, it's really difficult to hate someone like that, and you can start to see a little bit of yourself in her."

"Well, I was one of the people who was taken in by the Democracy Forum folks," said Bert Felliciano of Gendaris, who was recently parolled and was performing public service as part of his sentence. "They spent years saying what a wicked person she is, but even knowing who I am, being introduced as Bert, who was an insurgent, she still spoke to me kindly and offered me water. I think she did a lot to really improve her image here today. Who know if she'll ever be back, but I can tell people pretty proudly that I got to meet her once."

"The Empress asked to be placed on the regular labor gang," said site supervisor E-6 Walter Conrad from the NSP. "We were initially going to have her do something light but she insisted that she, and her security officers, actually be put into physical hard labor. I think she is working through a lot of things and she said work serves as a distraction, but mostly she just wanted to be of some use to our work here. So we put her on the demolition and clearing crew, and we can sure use it, as we have about six square blocks of demolished homes to clear out." The Empress was part of the team that not only cleared away parts of homes that were demolished in the fighting but also catalogued and secured any personal property that was discovered, so that the former occupants of the cleared homes can collect whatever belongings are left. "The Empress' team cleared and cataloged items from two full houses today."

While the NSP was thankful for the Empress to have appeared for a day of work, they were doubly surprised when she turned out for morning muster the next day and resumed her position with her labor gang. Her two security officers also turned out for another shift. The Empress told us that she intends to return daily until this neighborhood is cleared and rebuilt. Upon receiving the news of the Empress' choosing to continue in Eshar for the time being, she said "Her Imperial Majesty has informed me that I am to continue on as I have been since February, that she intends to return to Kaliburg in a few months, and that if I need her for something, I know where she can be reached. I am wondering if she will ever return to Kaliburg, but she also said to me that the idea of returning to the empty mansion on Wilson Hill where she and the Emperor lived and raised the Crown Princess Carolina is 'too difficult' an idea to face right now. So I think she is still grieving the loss of Emperor Fredrick and has thrown herself into work in Eshar while she processes his death. She believes that getting to know some of the parolees who she will work with will help her heal, and help the whole country heal, and healing is what we need most now. So Her Government is prepared to give her all the time she needs and will welcome her home when she returns."

The Crown Princess Carolina remains in Ciudad de Gaduri with the late Emperor's Cousin and his family, and is reportedly learning how to ride horses while attending school and learning Egelian. She is expected to return to Kalistan next month so she can begin classes in Eshar and be reunited with the Empress. "When the house is repaired," said Dame DuMont.

Ingleton is dead in Neveras
Links to Fascism confirmed; Empress to return to Kaliburg

Neveras Free City, Duchy of Neveras
October 3, 5558

Leo Ingleton, Leader of Democracy Forum died during escape attempt

Ministry of Internal Affairs has confirmed that the notorious fugitive from justice and former leader of the Democracy Forum, Leo Ingleton, was captured in Neveras City last week. During the capture, which took place at Ron's Bingo Hall in downtown Neveras City, police, working on tips from numerous informants, including former associates in the Democracy Forum movement, shot and fatally wounded Mr. Ingleton as he tried to escape. The chief conspirator behind the anti-Monarchist movement was under surveillance for three weeks, and had acquired an apartment in the city and was living incognito. But police moved in on a tip that he was almost out of resources, and was about to flee the country.

At the end, it was Ingleton's routine that did him in. Each Monday, he spent the evening playing Bingo at Ron's Bingo Hall, and stayed until close. Police contacted the owner and informed him that they needed the hall emptied at some point in the evening, where only Ingleton would be in the hall. So in an ingenious plan, an IBSI agent posed as a bartender and on the selected evening, spiked Ingleton's drink with a heavy laxative. When the laxative did its work, and Ingleton went to use the restroom, the owner hurried everyone out of the bingo hall as quietly as possible by informing them that the notorious fugitive was present and police were about to arrest him. Once Ingleton returned from the bathroom and saw the hall empty, he became suspicious, but it was too late and police drew their weapons on him and ordered him onto the ground. The conspirator instead decided to attempt to flee and was shot several times. He was still alive when he was taken into custody, but died from his wounds shortly afterward in the hospital.

Both IBSI and Kundrati intelligence have been working on tracking Mr. Ingleton for the better part of a year. "Nevaran Ducal Police would like to thank elements of the Imperial Bureau of Security Information and the Kundrati Intelligence Service for their assistance in tracking and capturing this criminal who was hiding out in our capital city," said Ducal Police Chief Chad Martinez. "Their intelligence and assets were instrumental in finding, tracking and capturing of Mr. Ingleton. While it is a shame that police were not able to interrogate him, there is likely not much more he could have added to what we already knew of his organization and his associates."

Acting Chancellor of the Empire, Dame Jacqueline DuMont hailed Ingleton's capture. "I have fully briefed Her Imperial Majesty about Ingleton's demise. She said that she felt bad about not being able to meet the man who was responsible for the death of her husband face to face to forgive him for the pain and suffering that he and his group had caused her personally and the Empire as a whole. But Mr. Ingleton was the last major fugitive of the big ten conspirators from Democracy Forum, pro business group known as The Vinyard, another Kalistani nationalist organization called Frente Nacional in Suldanor, and several dissident units in the Institutional Militia in Odufaray and Vrassa. Other co-Conspirators have made their way to King's Island in Odufaray where they will serve out their life sentences as residents of the prison colony." In all 17 members of the Conspiracy have been convicted to life sentences for the insurgency, while more than 4800 guerrillas' sentences varying from six months to 2 years are currently being served in National Service to rebuild damaged cities and infrastructure in Kalistan.

In an interesting twist, the Government revealed that in August, Ingleton's wife appealed for clemency for her husband. Her interest was to request an audience with Her Imperial Majesty, and in the presence of the acting Chancellor, the two women met in Odufaray behind closed doors. While there is no transcript of the meeting, it is reported by the Office of the Empress that Mrs. Ingleton personally apologized for her husband's role in the death of the Emperor, and Her Imperial Majesty accepted the apology, but would not offer Mr. Ingleton clemency. Her Imperial Majesty however did offer to create a pension fund for Mrs. Ingleton and their two children from House funds, an offer Mrs. Ingleton ultimately rejected, preferring instead to be allowed to remain in Kalistan with her children and be "held blameless" in the actions. The audience ended cordially, and The Empress thanked Mrs. Ingleton for her continued service to and care for the Empire.

Nevaran Police confirmed reports that Ingleton's movement was entirely homegrown. "They may have had early support from syndicalist groups in Baltusia, but when their true nature was discovered, it is impossible to believe that the Leftists in that country would have anything to do with Democracy Forum or any of their co-conspirators." Why? "Well, Mr. Ingleton was widely believed, and then confirmed to endorse fascism as an ideology. He was also an outspoken anti-Yeudi, a cultural bigot and an ultranationalist. His fascism will have been seen as entirely incompatible for the communists in Baltusia, and as a matter of fact, Baltusia was indirectly working with Kalistan in helping us keep the border locked against Democracy Forum, and previously the right wing terrorist organization known as Liberty Brigade." IBSI had discounted connections with Baltusia as far back as 5555.

Ingleton's death in Neveras City is accompanied by domestic analysis of a sharp drop in tension within the Empire. The Empress' efforts since July have done much to raise her popularity in Odufaray, a Duchy which was even a year ago on the verge of open revolt and deemed unsafe for the Empress. IBSI and Kundrati sources independently report that if there are remaining elements of the conspiracy that have not been caught yet, they are either completely neutered, or have fled the country, but IBSI believes that all major or significant players and participants in the operational planning of the 5558 Kalistani Insurgency have been captured or, now killed.

In related news, Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Pavlina I Ananto has completed her commitment to the City of Odufaray. The Shore Park project is completed for the season. All the destroyed homes have been completely cleared, and new construction will begin in the Spring. The Empress had intended to remain in Odufaray to see the rebuilding through, but the Lord Mayor of Eshar Free City, Lord Daniel Hollingsworth wrote and official plea for the Empress to return to Ananto and to her job as Empress of Ananto and Kalistan. "Kalistan and its government have been wtihout our Empress for almost a year, and while we in Eshar have benefitted immensely from her energy and good will, our Empress and Sovereign is now needed in Kaliburg for the benefit of all of the Anantonese People. We officially, and in utter humility and gratitude, implore our Sovereign to return to the Imperial Seat in Kaliburg, so she may Govern her people with justice and care, as is expected of and demanded of the Sovereign. We thank Her Imperial Majesty for her service, and beg her to trust the people of Eshar and her Duchy to continue the work she has begun her, while she returns to fulfill her Office as Empress."

The Lord Mayor, reading for proclamation, was joined in acclamation by the residents of Eshar whose homes the Empress had been working on, as well as most of the volunteer crews and local members of the NSP, who had all assembled to thank the Empress for her grace and efforts on behalf of the City who had shown her such hostility and animosity for so long. The Empress acknowledged the request by the Lord Mayor and, though it looked as if she was about to cry, acceded to the demands of her people, ironically providing the people of Eshar more direct democratic influence over their Empress than anyone alive in the city can remember, allowing even those who participated in the uprising some tangible evidence that they made some gains.

The Empress will return to Ananto along with Crown Princess Carolina in December where they are expected to reoccupy Wilson House in Kaliburg.
