Egelion
Artist: Julieta
Song: “Me Olvidaras”
Why is it popular: It’s smooth vocals, catchy tune and rythmn has caught the attention of many. Julieta’s voice makes it an almost dreamy song that compliments the lyrics, which are of course of heartbreak.

Gaduridos
Artist: Sonidero Sonarano
Song: “Por Ti”
Why it’s popular: It makes you want to dance. It is the best that Gaduridos can offer: the upbeat rythym of the Sonaran countryside, mixed with the urban cumbia of Ciudad de Gadur. This song is just a small representation of Gaduridos and its diverse music scene….this also does great at family functions.

Lourenne
Artist: The Emperors
Song: “Pulse”
Why it’s popular: Taken from The Emperor’s archives. The previous FOMAT-winning group always made music that touched the heart and provided the best of Canrillaise house pop music. The lyrics radiate of double meanings. Using terms from outer space, such as stars and brightness, to talk about self-love, self-worth, and the abscene of our presence. The song touches our hearts and sends us exactly to that point in time and space. Our personal “light” can be like a dying star. The realization never reaches us immediately, but behind the light there is a dead empty void waiting to be filled, waiting to light up again.

Kalistan
Artist: Brad Willis
Song: "Sorry"
Why it’s popular: Kalistani FOMAT XXVIII entrant Brad Willis was seen as one of the leading voices of his generation. His FOMAT entry "It's Over" from his debut album Proximity (5535) released on KMI did not win the contest, but his record continued selling. Proximity was a Top 10 album and as he waited for his trip to FOMAT, he continued touring Kalistan, playing concerts and writing music for a follow up. Shortly after returning to Kalistan, but before he was able to put the finishing touches on his follow-up record Willis died from a congenital heart defect. He was 31 at the time. "I always loved Willis' voice," said Willis' friend and fellow musician Ajay Bhattacharia of Willis' contemporaries Quickstop. "He had such an unusual and evocative way of singing that inspired emotion from his audience. The man could really belt out his lyrics, and just pull your heart out through your ears. I really miss my friend." This particular song, "Sorry" was an exploration of the other side of "It's Over", which was highly romantic and musical. Here you hear the syncretism of jazz and Noise Alternative that later would form one of the foundations of the Kaliburg Art Rock scene, and much of his music now is canonized in Kalistan along with crucial artists like Jennifer Stepanov.

Egelion
Artist: Vanessa Gutierrez
Song: “Alas de Metal"

Why is it popular: Vanessa Gutierrez was once a troubled soul. She sang in several groups, different labels, and at different locations but none could satisfy fulfillment she craved. Born in Phalsepheaux in Caille, she studied music in Altea, hoping to reach new heights.

Yet, she went through a difficult self-improvement period at the same time the Kerisian War was going on. She wrote a moving song about self-worth, confidence, and a positive outlook on life despite the horrors of war. Some say that mentions of war in her song directly coincide with the Kerisian War, but also the war within her own mind. The song speaks of not being afraid of anything. War leaving her drained, but determined and confident in herself. "Alas de Metal" reminds us that war itself is such a brutal reality--one that we are all privileged to never experience. But within the war in our lives and within ourselves, we can still find an uplifting moment of strength and courage for ourselves.

Gutierrez's song is dedicated for those who fight a battle every day--within oneself, and out.

It is recommended to search up song lyrics to enjoy the full experience.

Kalistan
Artist: Kill Your Speaker
Song: “Wide Awake”

Why it’s popular: Kill Your Speaker was a major band in the Kalistani Noise Alternative scene in the mid 5500s. Noise alternative married the ubiquitous Kalistani Alternative sound, with extremely heavy and guitars that blister the eardrums, massive drums and thick sludgy bass. Some felt that Noise Alternative was the result of thrash metal and crossover metal moving closer to the mainstream. But most chalked the Noise Alternative to a rejection of pop and mass culture sensibilities: Noise Alternative was definitely not "least common denominator" music aimed at mass appeal, but was more designed to alienate the people who celebrated the pabulum of Pop&B music which was predominant directly before Noise's rise.

"Wide Awake" is a great example of the characteristic dynamic of Noise Alternative: the Soft-Loud-Soft-LOUD thrashy alternative that is exclusively guitar driven and eschews electronica, keyboards, and a ton of post processing, but rather values volume and groove.

This song also maintains a nonstandard time signature in many places, contributing influences to what became known as Math Rock as a subgenre of the Art Rock scene in Kaliburg during the next century.

Kalistan
Artist: Maria Castro (La Mas Mala)
Song: “Tengo Trente Tres”

Why it’s popular: During the late 4800s, Kalistani airwaves were awash with Gaduri based Egelian Language music. As Gaduridos began exporting their culture, Kalistanis were not only the first international audience hit by the tidal wave, but also were among the most enthusiastic consumers. The result was Gaduridos' multiple victories in FOMAT during that time period, but also an assertion of Egelian language music in the domestic music industry as well.

One of the first Kalistani acts to formalize the genre that became known in Kalistan as KME, or Kalistani Musica en Egelian was Yoshimi native Maria Castro, better known across the Republic as La Mas Mala. She fused Egelian language and Gaduri and Egelian rhythms with Kalistani hiphop to create the blueprint for KME- Kalistani music that was sung in either Egelian or the Suldanoran dialect, or sometimes both, which was most closely associated with alternative than with traditional music of Gaduridos. La Mas Mala enjoyed a lot of success in her own right, but she was just the forerunner for the genre.

The artists who followed her, including Jenny Huerta and La Sol were far bigger, and brought KME into the mainstream. La Sol even went to FOMAT and won with a fully Vrassan RF song, though she often recorded in both Egelian and Vrassan and was known as the greatest KME artist in Kalistani history. But the doors were opened and the roads were paved for her success by Gaduri artists like Los Angeles Rojas and Chaparra, and Kalistani artists like La Mas Mala. This entry, called "Tengo Trente Tres" represents La Mas Mala's at her baddest, fully Gaduri, fully Kalistani, 100% Mas Mala.

Kalistan
Artist: Smoked Salmon
Song: “Girlfriend”

Why it’s popular: The apex of the Dana Ska Punk scene of late 4890s and the early 4900s, Dana's Smoked Salmon was itself quite unimportant as a band. They had a couple modest hits to their credit, including "Sold Out", which was the song they were mostly known for. But the reason this song is more historically significant is two reasons:

1) It epitomizes the ska=punk hybrid that has characterized Dana music long after the genre left the mainstream of the radio, and generally can still be heard across Northern Suldanor: Its mix of ska, skate punk and brass accompaniment which is inherited largely from Gaduri sources is typical of club music in the region even to this day.

and 2) It features vocals vocals from the far more important musician Monica Pella, who was the lead singer of the band Red Tone. Her band went to FOMAT and won it with the first, and probably the last ska-punk song to claim the title in the contest. Red Tone later toured Makon and released a concert movie and is considered one of the most important ska bands in Kalistani Music History. She was also linked with the woman who is widely considered Kalistan's greatest musician, Jennifer Stepanov, and helped put together a tribute record following the singer's untimely demise due to a drug overdose.

The song is exemplary of the Dana ska-punk sound and very light, tongue in cheek attitude of that particular wave of Ska emerging from Dana in the late 4800s. Ska punk was always intended to be fun dance music for punks and this song, like many others of its time, really captured the spirit of Late Republican music. While the video itself does not feature Pella, her vocals are prominent across the entire track.

Bonus: A live performance of Smoked Salmon's single "Girlfriend" with Pella joining the band on stage. Sound quality is not good.
