Grievances with Cultural Protocols (and potential standardisation?)
#1
Since there is sentiment on the discord that lot of cultural protocols dont make sense due to various reasons, mainly that they were adopted at wildly different times and thus arent really up to date with each other, I decided to make this thread so anyone can post complaints they have with some CultPro, and maybe to plan some sort of standardisation of CultPros to bring them up to date. (Also I think everyone agrees there should be less germans.)

I think we need more germans.

Firstly, I'll just reiterate my "Just some thoughts on Filipinos..." thread, which has implications for the CPs of Tukarali, New Alduria, and, as I learned, Aldegar.

Secondly, I'm not entirely sure what is within the scope for "standardisation" here, but I would like to see the format of CPs standardized, and a template provided to this end. Not to toot my own horn, but I think the format I used for my recent Temania CP update is good, and I will reproduce below as a template in a code box and as a quote for visual purposes:

Quote:BACKGROUND
Wiki article: "[Country]" and "History of [Country]"

[Country] is based on [RL Equivalent(s) or Inspiration(s)].

ETHNIC GROUPS
Wiki article: “Ethnic groups in [Country]”

XX ([RL Equivalent]) – XX%
YY ([RL Equivalent]) – YY%
Other/mixed – ZZ%

Note: [Short context provided to help players interpret these figures]

RELIGION
Wiki article: “Religion in [Country]”

XX ([RL Equivalent]) – XX%
↳ YY ([RL Equivalent]) – YY%
ZZ ([RL Equivalent]) – ZZ%

Note: [Short context provided to help players interpret these figures]

LANGUAGE
Wiki article: "Languages of [Country]"

[Relevant info, including what the official or most widely spoken language is, what languages the various groups speak, etc.]

Code:
[b]BACKGROUND[/b] Wiki article: "[Country]" and "History of [Country]" [Country] is based on [RL Equivalent(s) or Inspiration(s)]. [b]ETHNIC GROUPS [/b]Wiki article: “Ethnic groups in [Country]” XX ([RL Equivalent]) – XX% YY ([RL Equivalent]) – YY% Other/mixed – ZZ% [i][b]Note:[/b] [Short context provided to help players interpret these figures][/i] [b]RELIGION[/b] Wiki article: “Religion in [Country]” XX ([RL Equivalent]) – XX% ↳ YY ([RL Equivalent]) – YY% ZZ ([RL Equivalent]) – ZZ% [i][b]Note:[/b] [Short context provided to help players interpret these figures][/i] [b]LANGUAGE[/b] Wiki article: "Languages of [Country]" [Relevant info, including what the official or most widely spoken language is, what languages the various groups speak, etc.]

While going through the cultural protocols in order to make (simple) wiki pages for every country in the game, I came across a few which were single paragraphs and provided very little demographic information. I think these should be updated by players (if there are players in these countries) and/or moderation as soon as possible. Happy to work with players/moderation to put forward drafts if necessary, or where time constraints have or will limit further progress towards this end.

These CPs are:

Apologies for the delayed response but overall for the two I've played in:

Mina has been inspired by North African Arab states with some influences from the generally missing Gulf Arab states such as Oman and Yemen. The Cifutingan people (Formosan people and languages) have been RP'd as Taiwanese and using their language as a base. Mina has sort've my groundwork for trying to rework the Asli people that I started at the tail end of PT Classic's lifespan but was sort've drawn away.

Ostland was originally inspired by Ober Ost and a post-WWI German Baltic but I changed it later on to be more Austrian inspired due to the fact that the Hulstrian's colonized Ostland, not the Dundorfians who do have cultural differences. In addition, the Japanese there were largely based off a more WWII-era Japan.
