SANGON - Prime Minister Maurício Pires Pinho has announced that he will be the PDP candidate for president in next years presidential election. The move, confirmed by PDP deputy leader Teodósio Alcantara, is a master stroke for the Prime Minister, who has been embroiled in a political battle with President Caetano since the beginning of this term. While Caetano was weighing his options for a third run, his relative unpopularity prompted PDP party leadership to quickly decide on Pinho after he announced his intention to seek the office. President Caetano has responded by congratulating Pinho with his nomination, announcing that he will not run for a third term in a move for "party unity". Pinho has been prime minister for nearly 7 years, overseeing the implementation of many of the domestic policies of the PDP government and the country its economic transition.

Despite his closeness to policy, he is popular amongst a majority in the country, mainly because of his continued efforts to strengthen democracy and defy even his own party during that effort. Pinho, responding to the news, has thanked the party for their trust in him. "I will use this campaign to portray a clear choice between democracy and continued reform and a return to the old policies that Rosa advocates for. If elected, i will veto all legislation that stands against our new democratic order and will push rellentlesly for any new government to adopt further reforms to protect our newfound freedoms."

In every hypothetical poll so far, Pinho is seen as a clear favorite despite the PDP losing its legislative battles. Especially the new LS is causing the PDP to lose races in the polls, with Rosa currently polling to capture a large majority in the Chamber of Deputies next year.

SANGON - In what can only be described as a major turning point in electoral politics, the oppossition "Rosa" has managed to capture a commanding majority in the Chamber of Deputies, defeating the PDP which has ruled for 8 years. Rosa leader and senator Camila Zanetti Machado celebrated with party members as she was elected to a seat in Sangon, vacating her position in the senate to become parliamentary leader for the time being. Machado is a prime candidate to become Prime Minister, with her party able to reject any appointment made by the president. Machado says that she will "fight for the common folk" when in office, using the "strong mandate" given by voters to secure reforms and changes in social policy and the creation of a fairer economy.

Rosa has captured 90 seats, more then enough to secure a majority. The PDP, which sat at 75 last election, has lost big, winning only 32 seats. While the victory of Rosa means that left-leaning government is to lead the new republic for the first time, the sudden rise of the Social Liberals is also notable. Commentators have argued that the PDP mainly lost this many seats thanks to vote splitting, with the new LS winning over centrist and socially liberal voters that traditionally voted for the PDP. While ensuring that Rosa won at least 20 more seats thanks to vote splitting the LS also secured 16 seats of itself, becoming a powerfull presence in the new chamber of deputies. LS leader Gustavo Cabral also secured a seat in the port city of Cortes, ensuring his parliamentary leadership for the party.

Also, in contrast to the last election, we were already able to call this years presidential race early. With nearly 78% of the vote, current Prime Minister Maurício Pires Pinho managed to win the presidency in the first round, showing his immense popularity with a large part of the electorate. Pinho also benefitted from LS not fielding their own presidential candidate, instead endorsing Pinho as Pinho is largely considered to be a social liberal himself. While his party thus suffered a immense defeat, he has managed to keep the presidency in PDP hands against all odds. Rosa candidate Santiago Martins conceded defeat in the early hours of the night, having ran a lackluster campaign and only capturing barely 15% of the vote.

President-elect Pinho has promised to first talk with Rosa leaders and attempt to strike a compromise on the composition of government. He is likely to demand certain concessions on strengthening democracy as well as seeking to prevent Machado from becoming PM, as he sees her as to radical to lead the government. He has also promised that he will not hinder Rosa's ambitions when it comes to social policies, but that he will "take the roll of the presidency very seriously and ensure that our economy and government are kept stable in this unstable world."

Government falls!
[Image: naom_67d060b552e19.webp?crop_params=dW5kZWZpbmVk]

The government could not withstand popular pressure and fell. President Artur Machado ordered new elections to be held as soon as possible, taking into account the stability of the country.
Tukarali will thus enter a new era, with new parties already preparing their candidacies for the Assembly of the Republic in an attempt to win parliamentary seats.
Raul Salazar, President of the newly formed National Patriotic Front (formerly the Left Patriotic Front), has already announced that his party will contest the new elections. The election campaign is now open, so let's see what the people of Tukarali have to say...

After the fall of the government and a quick announcement of new elections by President Artur Machado, new elections were held and here are the results.

The National Patriotic Front has achieved a historic victory under the leadership of Raul Salazar, who, according to reliable sources, is already in talks with the Workers' Union Party to form a government, in what is called the Labour-Nationalist agreement.
Despite this agreement, it will still be a minority government and therefore governing will not be easy.
Raul Salazar, grandson of former Tukarali President Maria Salazar, faces a major challenge. Here are the new Prime Minister's first words.
Quote:"Our nation has gone through times of turmoil and uncertainty, but today marks the beginning of a new chapter, a chapter of renewal, strength and unity. The National Patriotic Front has been entrusted with guiding Tukarali into the future, and I pledge to govern not for one party, but for all the citizens of this country.
Economic recovery, social cohesion and national security will be the pillars of our administration.
We will work together, across party lines, social classes and regions, to build a prosperous, proud and united Tukarali. The challenges are many, but our determination is equally strong."

Oil exploration in Monte Agudo divides the country
[Image: Sem-t-tulo-1.png]

The reaction was immediate. the Liberals (LDP) and the Social Democrats (SDP) accused the government of selling out national sovereignty and putting the environment at risk.

Quote:"The oil in Monte Agudo belongs to the people of Tukarali, not to foreign corporations. They want to repeat the mistakes of the past, when national wealth was plundered in the name of progress,”
declared LDP leader João Miguel Duarte.

SDP deputies even raised placards in the plenary session with the slogan:
Quote:“No to oil plundering!”

The government has the support of the Workers' Union Party (WUP) and the Conservative Alliance (CA) and, in theory, will have enough votes for the bill to pass in parliament.

Presidential elections of 5667 – Democratic Republic of Tukarali

After months of political debate and social tension, the citizens of Tukarali went to the polls to elect the new president of the Republic. The election was marked by a wide variety of candidates representing the country's diverse political movements.

It took a second round to determine the winner.

The now former president, Artur Machado, said he would not run again, opening the door for other candidates, notably the favourite Francisco Gomes da Costa of the NPF, who came first in the first round with 34% of the votes. Helena Duarte of the SDP came in second with 25%, making a second round necessary, in which Gomes da Costa confirmed his victory with 54% of the votes against 46% for Helena Duarte.
The National Patriotic Front continues on its way to becoming the dominant political force in Tukarali, once again defeating the opposition of the SPD and LDP.

Gomes da Costa's first words as President-elect

I will be the President of all Tukaralians, and I will work for the progress, security and greatness of our homeland. Tukarali is ready to face tomorrow with courage and determination.’

Prime Minister Raul Salazar stated that Gomes da Costa's victory strengthens the path initiated by the government and guarantees ‘a period of stability and political discipline.’
In the opposition, Helena Duarte accepted the results but promised to be the ‘strong voice of the opposition’ against policies that undermine social justice.
