Opposition Parties Boycott Sham Election

NATIONAL – Independent opposition parties in Temania urged their supporters to boycott yesterday’s so-called "National Consultation," signalling widespread dissatisfaction with the superficial democratic reforms implemented by the country’s authoritarian socialist regime. The boycott, led by the Pan-Temanian Ahmadi Front (BERJAMA), the Partai Nasional Temania (PNT), and Musyawarah Nasional (Munas), sought to draw attention both domestically and internationally to what these parties describe as the illegitimacy of the current regime.

In a joint statement, the leadership of the three outlawed parties denounced the election, stating that “until the government allows true political competition, freedom of assembly, and freedom of speech, we cannot recognize any consultation or election as legitimate – for to do so would be to ignore the voices and sacrifices of our youth in the streets."

On the day of the "National Consultation," several demonstrations broke out across major cities, including Redekarta, Kuala Jaya, and Cipunagara, as citizens and supporters of the opposition took to the streets to protest the election. Police and security forces were deployed heavily in urban centres and outside polling locations, using tear gas, batons, and rubber bullets to disperse the gatherings. Several protesters were reportedly injured and detained.

Some minor parties authorized by the regime to participate in the election secured representation in the People’s Assembly, including the Partai Keadilan Sosial Ahmadi (PKSA) and the Partai Rakyat Pedesaan (PRP). However, reports have emerged which indicate that these parties faced internal disagreements over participation in the election, suggesting that dissatisfaction with the ruling party is not confined to the outlawed opposition, but is rising even within the satellite parties intended to function under the PNSR’s supervision.

Meanwhile, Premier Basirun Chuanli, speaking at his victory rally, hailed the process as a “milestone in the development of Temania’s socialist democracy,” emphasizing the government’s commitment to “multi-party consultation and collaboration.” According to official announcements, the ruling PNSR maintained its control over the vast majority of seats in the People’s Assembly, while participating minor parties and independents secured only limited representation. However, the Democratic Transformation Commission, the government body tasked with overseeing the election, has yet to release detailed vote totals or turnout figures, instead certifying only the number of seats won by each party. The PNT, citing its own internal tallies, estimated voter turnout at a meagre 28.8%.

Analysts and observers argue that the success of the boycott represents a significant political blow to Premier Chuanli, who has spent recent months attempting to project a modernized and inclusive image for his regime following nationwide protests and international sanctions from Egelion and Luthori. In addition, growing political mobilization across the spectrum, as well as the rising threat of extremist groups including Jamaat al-Ahmadi, which recently issued a fatwa denouncing communism, pose further challenges to the stability of the regime in Redekarta.
