Petronara may be a "big fish in a small pond" at home, but in New Englia's Rossfadda oil field bidding process, the company is determined to prove that it is no mere shrimp among the sharks.
Founded in 5485 following the nationalization of Temania’s petroleum sector, Petronara holds exclusive drilling rights within the country and operates across the entire hydrocarbon value chain, from offshore exploration and extraction to refining, distribution, power generation and international shipping. It is the largest company in Temania by both assets and revenue, and executives say it is that scale, skill, and vertical integration which give it an advantage in complex overseas ventures such as Rossfadda.
However, Petronara is entering a complex field of bidders which includes global giants such as Petróleón of Egelion and Luthorian Petroleum, backed by Luthorian banking interests and the Yeudi shipping conglomerate Hadayim, which has aligned itself with Luthori’s bid. Petróleón has promised institutional development, backed by Villar y Zepeda and the Real Academia, while Luthorian Petroleum has paired its extraction bid with "billions of pounds of additional investment in New Englian education," and "economic sectors," per NLB News, and Hadayim has moved to secure distribution contracts that would integrate Rossfadda into the Vamaj supply framework, even as the Sholemberg Chronicle reports, "news on the addition of yet another supplier led to a further decline in crude oil prices" within the network. Nadiyan oil giant Nadcomp, which has increased supply leading to suppressed prices within the Vamaj network and the continent of Keris, has unexpectedly backed Luthori's bid, causing some analysts to speculate whether Nadiya may be seeking to apply further pressure on global crude prices to squeeze out smaller producers.
Meanwhile, Petronara’s argument is that New Englia should avoid tying Rossfadda too tightly to any single trade bloc at a moment when existing suppliers, such as Nadiya, are already exerting downward pressure on global prices. Instead, company officials point to Petronara’s established trading networks across emerging southern and equatorial markets as a hedge against overexposure to the pricing dynamics of traditional established markets. The company has stressed that, for New Englia, a diversification of export destinations could prove as valuable as the headline signing bonuses offered by the larger northern firms.
In a striking departure from conventional economic logic, Kalistan’s monarch, Carolina II, has proposed paying up to $1.5 billion imperial pesos annually over a century to permanently close the field and remove an estimated 1.9 billion barrels from global circulation. Petronara has sought to respond directly to the environmental anxieties highlighted by the Kalistani proposal without abandoning commercial extraction and the downstream job benefits such an operation would generate for the developing New Englian economy. The company has pledged to offset the carbon footprint of its Rossfadda operations through the planting of hundreds of thousands of trees annually and the purchase of large swathes of Temania’s biodiverse rainforest from the government of Temania for placement into an independently managed environmental trust. Petronara executives have also left open the potential allocation of a share of profits generated from the contract toward renewable partnerships in New Englia, should the government choose to pursue energy diversification alongside oil exports.
Petronara has decades of experience drilling in coastal basins, critical access to established trading networks in fast-growing southern markets, and a dedication to socially and environmentally responsible corporate practices. The company has also struck a recent tentative licensing agreement with North Seleyan Petroleum of Lodamun for FPSO vessels, augmenting the firm's ability to expedite production and meet New Englian targets. Thus, while the company may be smaller than some of the firms which have thus far thrown their hat into the ring, its officials believe the merits of its bid are self-evident.
