Haradesa - The commission tasked with redesigning Nsanlosa's shattered defense apparatus has formally recommended the creation of a Federal Territorial Defense Force built from the existing Border Protection Service, even as the treason trial of coup leader General Abdu Sultan opened this week and reports mount of demobilized soldiers struggling, and in some cases turning to provincial militias, for lack of promised support.
Presenting the report to the Federal Assembly, commission chair Judge Amara Nkemdirim said the guiding principle throughout had been simple: "no institution created by this commission may ever again be capable of marching on this capital." Under the proposal, the new force would carry no standing garrison near Haradesa, would organize around dispersed provincial commands rotating officers across all ten entities, and would answer to a joint Assembly–Senate Defense Committee rather than a single chief of staff, closing what Nkemdirim called "the one-phone-call vulnerability" that let Sultan move armor on the capital with a handful of orders. The Assembly is expected to debate the proposal within weeks, with Prime Minister Ramadhani signaling his full support.
The report's publication coincided with the opening of proceedings against Sultan before the High Tribunal of Haradesa, where prosecutors laid out charges of treason, conspiracy against the constitutional order, and the deaths of six civilians killed during the standoff outside the Federal Assembly. Sultan, appearing defiant, rejected the tribunal's authority and repeated his claim that Ramadhani's anti-corruption purge had "destroyed the chain of command that held this country together." Nine other officers face related charges, with two lower-ranking conspirators already convicted and sentenced to lengthy prison terms in closed proceedings last month. A verdict in Sultan's case is not expected before the new year.
Less resolved is the fate of the roughly 30,000 soldiers demobilized under Ramadhani's dissolution order. Severance payments promised within weeks of the coup's collapse have in many cases been delayed by months, and land allocation programs meant to resettle former soldiers in underpopulated provinces remain badly behind schedule, according to Home Office figures released alongside the commission's report. Kwame Diallo, spokesman for the newly formed Nsanian Veterans' Association, said frustration among the demobilized was becoming dangerous.
Officials privately acknowledge the risk. Two provinces have reported unconfirmed sightings of former UAFN personnel among local militia and checkpoint operations, precisely the outcome reintegration planners had warned against. Ramadhani, addressing the Assembly, conceded the pace had been too slow.

I am ordering the Treasury to release emergency reintegration funding this month, because the alternative is watching the very danger we disbanded the army to prevent simply reassemble itself, province by province.
With the commission's proposal now before the Assembly, Sultan's trial likely to stretch well into next year, and thousands of former soldiers still waiting on payments, the government faces a narrow window to prove that dismantling the military was the beginning of a safer Nsanlosa.
