President of the Kundrati Union's "Address Regarding Upcoming Hardship"

This paper was written anonymously within the Office of the President of the Kundrati Union and read live on national television by President Tiberius Claudius Nero during his stay in Xsampa.

People of Kundrati,

I want to speak to you from my heart. You have already seen me for the last twelve years. We have only begun to rebuild in a massive way.

As you heard, I've visited Selucia and Beluzia. I've already seen what their cities look like. What they've done, how they've done it, why they've done it. Right now I am in Xsampa and I've had the time to visit the capital. Xsampa, as you know, was bombed by the Beiteynuese with a nuclear atomic bomb. That bomb almost destroyed Xsampa, indeed it ruined the country and left anything within miles of the blast point in complete irradiated ruin. Yet I see a nation that is standing up on it's two feet.

When the Legionaires fired rockets at Xsampa laced with chemical weapons, I was in shock. The world was in shock. That the Kundrati government could do something like this, although it had been under fascist rule for a while until then, was shocking. Kundrati has never done that before. We would expect it from some rogue power far away, but now that rogue power is fifty miles north of Etxea.

Our island was destroyed in the invasion of the homeland. We call it the invasion of the homeland because our homeland was invaded twice. It was invaded when the fascists took over, and it was liberated through invasion by the coalition. The invasion of the homeland wasn't without cost, after all you are living in it now, rubble around you, destruction around you, every day for the last twelve years.

We haven't gone through something like this in centuries. I don't think in any part of Kundrati history we've gone through that this has happened. An entire island wiped out, an entire part of our country wiped out.

I look back to the old times of Vespasianus and the heroes of long ago, the 4900s, for the last time something as devastating, close to it, that we've seen.

I know, however, that we will go through pain and suffering. We will continue to. Today's generations will live through suffering and death and nothing that any other nation has experienced right now. We've been through it for a decade. I can't speak to how traumatizing that invasion was for our boys and girls growing up, nor can I speak to how traumatizing that invasion was for our elders or the adults of today.

I can't promise things will get better. You did not make me President because of that or for that.

Harsh times are ahead.

I have only seen ingenuity, however, from those who have managed to make it this long. Those who have built up a home, built up some farmland, made do with what they got, and I am proud of that. It's these people, and the Xsampan people, that inspire us to keep going. It is easy to give up. It is harder to do something. But doing that something will give us so much more.

We will grow again.

I hope you can work with me on this.

But for now, we have to go through this hardship. I don't know when it will end. But when it does end, you will hopefully have something good out of it.
