Aroon Murder: Tenzin Was Killer-For-Hire, Cooperates With Prosecution

Na Sap, Suman  –– There were new developments yesterday in the investigation surrounding the murder of Hanzai small business owner Aroon Choosak as the man accused of the "execution-style" killing has changed his plea to guilty as part of a cooperation deal with prosecutors.

The deal includes a statement of facts which Tenzin, a dual national holding South Dovanian and Xsampan citizenship, has now agreed to. The statement outlines events of the night as follows: Posing as a Suman province police officer, Tenzin confronted Aroon at his home. Neighbors to the deceased reported in July that they had seen Aroon taken in restraints from his doorway to a waiting black car on the night before his death was reported. Tenzin drove Aroon to the outskirts of the city and killed Aroon using a pistol obtained illegally by Tenzin in Pagaw.

Tenzin had never met Aroon before the night of the killing. Tenzin had been contacted online by an old acquaintance, named in the report as "Suspect B",  two weeks prior. Suspect B offered Tenzin 400,000 baht for the killing of Aroon. Suspect B has yet to be identified by authorities.

Authorities in Suman have assured the public that this killing was targeted and that no danger to the public exists. In Udon Nakhon the Ministry of Interior stated that it had confidence Suman authorities would close the case quickly, though did not offer comment on the identity of Suspect B or what motive was suspected in the murder for hire case. The Foreign Ministry confirmed that no concerns had been raised by Xsampa with relation to his status as a dual national, and that the Ministry did not expect that to change now that Tenzin was a cooperating witness.

PM Prasert: "Still as Strong as an Ox"

Udon Nakhon – Prime Minister Prasert Thanomchai (PA-UCF) was hospitalized earlier this month due to a respiratory infection, raising concern about the 77-year-old elder statesman's capacity to lead South Dovani's fractious minority coalition government. Appearing at the National Assembly this morning, however, PM Prasert appeared unbowed by the rumours swirling around his fitness for office, delivering a performance that was equal parts bravado and theatre.

"I am still as strong as an ox," declared the Prime Minister while flexing his biceps and encouraging reporters to feel his arms. "I've got the mind and body of a much younger man, just ask my wife."

Leaving aside concerns regarding the prime minister's health, the minority government he leads has experienced turbulence as of late. Since taking office in 5631, the Prime Minister has led an uneasy alliance supported by a patchwork of confidence-and-supply agreements, most notably with the United Communities Party (UCP) and the Civic Alliance (CA). Both parties are now threatening to withdraw their support, citing unmet policy commitments and accusations of backsliding. 

To appease the CA, Prasert agreed in 5632 to the establishment of the Independent Anti-Corruption Agency (IACA), a watchdog body aimed at restoring public trust after allegations of endemic graft contributed to the decline of the New Elephant Worker's Party (NEWP). However, critics argue that the agency has been effectively kneecapped by a nearly 50% funding cut in Finance Minister Vitaya Kongsangchai’s latest budget proposal, a move the CA describes as a “deliberate sabotage” of the institutional reform they sought to achieve through supporting the government.

Meanwhile, the UCP’s support was contingent on the formal recognition of minority language rights. While Prasert’s cabinet has issued non-binding directives promoting the use of local languages in education and public signage, and modestly expanded funding for multilingual education programs, the UCP insists these gestures fall short of the legally binding recognition they were promised. The UCP has warned that failure to make meaningful progress on minority rights could further inflame tensions underlying the insurgencies in the eastern provinces, such as that led by the Sumanese Liberation Front (SLF), which has waged a low-level rebellion against the central government for nearly a century.

On the issue of language rights, Prasert has had to walk a careful line. His government’s survival also depends on parliamentary support from ultranationalist parties like the Hanzen Heritage Party (PA–HHP) and the Strong Nation Party (SNP), both of which fiercely oppose any "dilution" of Hanzenese national culture. These factions have framed the language rights debate as an existential threat to national unity, a narrative that plays well with their base but undermines reconciliation efforts in the periphery.

Despite these mounting pressures, as well as the concerns about his health, the Prime Minister remained upbeat, declaring that his government will complete its term. On his side are recent polls suggesting that the PM and his government enjoy relatively strong approval from the electorate, despite the occasional legislative deadlock.

The rapid pace of NERI-era privatizations, combined with limited antitrust enforcement, created fertile ground for the rise of these massive family-owned enterprises. Some analysts have raised the alarm over the potential of such concentrated economic power to cause market distortion, weakened competition, and state capture. While the Commerce Minister Thanawat Suksabaijai (PIE) has floated new competition laws to address the issue, some critics argue that the government's reliance on these conglomerates for political financing and economic stability makes meaningful reform unlikely in the near term, while others note the potentially negative economic fallout of attacking the country's most successful employers.

Khattaya, South Dovani: The world's largest condom company, Kondom Kildanja (Cildanian Condom; CSX:KK) has signed a major deal with South Dovani's largest manufacturer and exporter of latex and rubber products, the Khattaya Rubber Latex Group, or KHATTEX (UNX:KTX). Under the deal, Khattex will produce around 160 million units annually under Kondom Kildanja's Shabi and ManPower brands.

Kondom Kildanja CEO Alwiġi Pene-Qasir describe the deal as a "stroke of genius." Under the deal, all Khattex-produced Shabi and ManPower condoms will be manufactured from natural latex, sourced from smallholders and farmers in rural South Dovani. The deal is very advantageous for Kondom Kildanja, given the cheap cost of both labour and natural rubber in South Dovani's domestic market.

"South Dovani is already one of the world's leading producers of natural rubber," noted Mr. Pene-Qasir. "It only makes sense that we would produce our rubbers here!"

Dalibor City, Dalibor: A lot consisting of ten brilliant unmounted sapphires from South Dovani were the talk of the quarterly Dalibor City Gem Show, where they were sold for over $2 million. Accordingly, the lot set a record for the highest realized results of sapphires at a major international auction. After generating interest from eleven buyers, the sapphires were bought by an undisclosed Kerisian collector.

As the global market has developed an insatiable demand for gems, particularly in Kalistan and other developed economies, prices for rare gemstones and precious metals have soared. While this is welcome news for the mining sector of leading gem exporters, overwhelmingly comprised of developing economies such as South Dovani, Yerrawa, and Utaristan, instability in Eastern South Dovani and Utaristan has thus far contributed towards the global gem price spike.

Business Report Poll: NEWP and PIE Struggle, While HP and JP See Major Gains

South Dovani: South Dovani’s fractious political landscape continues to shift as the latest Business Report poll reveals a continued decline for both the New Elephant Worker’s Party (NEWP) and the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (PIE). These parties had led South Dovani’s last coalition government, but have now lost a significant degree of support from those who voted for them previously, leading to gains for the Homeland Party (HP), the Justice Party (JP), and the Strong Nation Party (SNP). 

The poll recorded who voters supported in the last election, and who they intend to support in the scheduled 5637 election. The results show that the NEWP, which has been out of power since 5631, would receive 9.8% of the vote if the election were held today – a precipitous drop of 9.2 percentage points from its 19% share in the last election. Similarly, the PIE, which has participated in both the previously NEWP as well as the current Patriotic Alliance-led government, saw a drop of 4.6 percentage points to 6.2%. Voters identified lingering resentment towards the government of Chandra Srirai, as well as internal party leadership turmoil in both the NEWP and PIE, as a leading cause of their dissatisfaction with both parties. 

In contrast, two relatively new parties are gaining ground: the conservative Homeland Party (HP) and the left-wing Justice Party (JP). The HP saw a significant rise in support, gaining 9.4 percentage points to reach 13%, with much of the success attributed to HP leader Anawin Jantarapong. Despite his party’s small seat count in the National Assembly, Anawin has been effective in rallying nationalist sentiment and positioning the party as a key player in the broader conservative eco-system, given his personal popularity and media savviness. Much of the support for the HP comes at the expense of the PIE and National Development Party (NDP), both of which have seen nearly a third of their supporters switch to the HP. 

The JP, led by former labour law professor Thaksin Luang, also made impressive gains, moving up by 7.2 percentage points to 12.6%, mainly at the expense of the NEWP, but also more established left-wing parties such as the Revolutionary Alliance (RA) and Progressive People’s Union (PPU). The party has garnered support from younger, union-affiliated, and urban working-class voters, with this poll signalling an increasing consolidation of left-wing support behind Thaksin’s JP. 

Another notable development in the poll is the rise in support for the militarist Strong Nation Party (SNP), under the leadership of retired Army General Baroma Thannajaro. The SNP, which has positioned itself as the party of law and order, as well as bringing stability to the eastern provinces, has attracted a notable degree of support from voters previously affiliated with the nationalist Hanzen Heritage Party (HHP), and to a lesser extent, voters previously aligned with the PIE, NEWP, and RA. The support of some left-wing RA voters is explained by the fact that left-wing factions previously loyal to the RA exist in the army, with many in the Army holding the first President of South Dovani and RA founder Surasak Darawan in high regard as the "founding father" of the modern national army of the republic. Increasing support for the SNP is associated with voter dissatisfaction over the government's inability to resolve long-running insurgencies in the East, particularly with the UPM once again on the rise. 

Perhaps the biggest winner is Prime Minister Prasert Thanomchai. While his United Conservative Front is down one percentage point, support for his party remains broadly high, while support for centre-right to right-wing parties has risen across the board. Nevertheless, with nearly two years until the next general election, much can change in South Dovani's ever-evolving political scene.

In an unprecedented move, Vitaya has threatened to leave the PIE if Rak refuses to hold the vote, further exacerbating the growing discontent within the party over poor poll performance and waning finances. 

Vitaya, who has held the Finance Ministry through two different coalition governments, has grown more ambitious over time as his profile has risen nationally. Vitaya is most known for spearheading South Dovani's transition to a market-based economic system as the architect of South Dovani's privatization scheme, the National Economic Renewal Initiative. Despite his influential role in radically reshaping South Dovani's economy, his time in office has been marked by tensions within his party. Despite being seen as a capable technocrat, Kongsangchai has clashed with party leadership over policy directions and strategy, especially as the party's support has waned: the latest polling data from Business Report indicates a sharp decline in support for the PIE, down to just 6.2% from 10.8% in the 5631 elections, likely contributing to Kongsangchai’s growing frustration with Khemanich’s leadership.

This challenge comes at a critical time for the PIE, as its influence in the ruling coalition has diminished in the wake of the political shift towards more nationalist and right-wing parties, such as the Homeland Party (HP) and the Strong Nation Party (SNP), both of which have seen notable rises in support in recent polling on the back of the PIE's decline. While Rak Khemanich has served as Deputy Prime Minister under the PA-led coalition, the PIE’s dwindling influence outside of the National Assembly has weakened his position. Many significant donors of the party have also reportedly shifted their support to the HP and SNP, with the PIE reporting its lowest fundraising numbers since 5622. Vitaya himself comes from the influential Kongsangchai business family, which has long financed the PIE. Vitaya's father and CEO of the family's holding company, Somphop Kongsangchai, announced that the family would withhold its donations to the party until it "has a leadership team prepared to set the party on a stable footing."

Udon Nakhon – The Homeland Party (HP) has officially joined the Patriotic Alliance (PA), the leading conservative electoral coalition in South Dovani, currently led by Prime Minister Prasert Thanomchai, in a move which signals the further consolidation of nationalist and conservative forces within the country's political landscape. 

The HP gained 18 seats in the 5631 general election, placing 11th out of the 16 parties vying for influence in the National Assembly. Nevertheless, this performance was among the best of the newly registered parties contesting that election, largely propelled by the charismatic leadership of Anawin Jantarapong, who currently serves in Prasert's cabinet as Education Minister. At just 38 years old, former army officer Anawin is an outlier in a political scene dominated by aging power brokers: charismatic, media-savvy, and often described in tabloids as “the prettiest man in politics,” Anawin was successful in appealing to a broad subset of voters beyond the traditional rural power base of conservative politics. 

As the scion of a well-connected military (and formerly aristocratic) family, the Jantarapong Clan, Anawin has leveraged his social standing and fluency with various forms of media to build a strong public profile. Through his connections and charisma, Anawin has been able to attract a wide base of support, including endorsements from prominent celebrities, athletes, and political figures. Notably, he was instrumental in securing the endorsements of legendary Muay Hanzai champion Pira Khadpo and action film star Kimhan Kunchai for President Kob Suchinda in 5630. Later, Anawin would recruit Pira, who now serves as Minister of Tourism and Sports, into his party. 

“We are the generation that will defend our nation’s values, while renewing and strengthening them for the world our children will inherit,” Anawin declared at the press conference announcing the merger. "This alliance is not just political, it’s about our pride in being Hanzenese, and our love for the Hanzenese nation.”

Also speaking at the press conference, PM Prasert welcomed Anawin and his party into the Patriotic Alliance. Prasert praised Anawin's work as Minister of Education and his ability to communicate to a broad audience of voters. At one point, Prasert joked, “I used to be the good-looking one in the room. Now I have to work a little harder.”

“He’s got intelligence, he’s got discipline, but let’s not pretend that’s why the country has been tuning in,” Prasert said with a chuckle. “The boy looks like he was carved out of granite. When he walks into a room, even my security detail stands up a little straighter. He's got the face and the body, but we've got the wisdom. It's a perfect match.”

Prasert’s comments garnered a few uncomfortable chuckles, and while most dismissed it as “typical Prasert wit,” the awkwardness in the room hinted at something deeper. Some have speculated that the Prime Minister, aware of Anawin’s rising influence, might have been trying to diminish his status by reminding both him and the public who was in charge. Anawin offered a congenial smile and a modest bow, but did not respond to Prasert's comments, instead taking questions from reporters.

Rak Takes Slice of PIE Following Leadership Election Defeat to Vitaya

Udon Nakhon –– Finance Minister Vitaya Kongsangchai has become the leader of the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (PIE) following a highly divisive leadership election against the former leader, Deputy Prime Minister Rak Khemanich. The election, marked by bitter and increasingly personal rhetoric, highlighted the ideological divides that have emerged within the party after participating in government for nearly two decades. Rak, who had led PIE since its creation, announced his departure following the results, citing a "complete and total" lack of faith in Vitaya's leadership. Flanked by 12 PIE legislators loyal to his leadership, Rak announced that he and his faction will become independents while considering their future options. 

"Vitaya's victory is for those who will not stop taking everything they can from the rest of us, destroying the dream of a fair and prosperous South Dovani," said Rak, his voice breaking at many points throughout his speech. "He’ll stand there, all smug, as if he’s a hero for 'saving' South Dovani. He’s nothing but a well-dressed thief who’s managed to convince a few powerful people that he’s some kind of economic genius."

Rak, a left-leaning nationalist, has long been at odds with the economic policies championed by Vitaya as Finance Minister, particularly the National Economic Renewal Initiative (NERI) which privatized over 70% of South Dovani's state-owned enterprises. In the past few years, Rak has become more openly critical of NERI, arguing that the privatization of state assets has resulted in the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a few well-connected families, including Vitaya’s own Kongsangchai clan. Vitaya, for his part, has pointed to positive economic indicators as proof of NERI's success, while highlighting PIE's underperformance in the 5631 election as well as recent polling to argue that Rak's "outdated and out-of-touch traditional politics" are unfit for the current political moment.

Military Deploys More Troops to Yerrawa Border Amid Rising Tensions and Smuggling Threats

A major military buildup is underway along South Dovani’s southeastern border with Yerrawa, as the government intensifies its response to a volatile convergence of insurgency, ethnic unrest, and transnational smuggling. Convoys of National People’s Army (NPA) trucks, heavy artillery, and engineering units have been spotted mobilizing across key checkpoints of Thasaem and Khamlua, which border the Yerrawan region of Pha’ka Sitnè—a known hotspot for narcotics and gem trafficking.

The deployment comes amid a surge in cross-border instability, driven not only by criminal activity from the Unified People’s Militia (UPM) but also by the actions of emerging transnational smuggling networks and escalating ethnic unrest in Yerrawa itself. The UPM continues to operate from strongholds in South Dovani’s remote eastern highlands, with some training bases believed to be located within Pha-ka Sitnè as well. The UPM is known to collaborate with criminal syndicates such as the Tian Long Tong triad, based out of Dalibor, along with other local and transnational criminal organizations that have emerged in the region over the years of conflict. 

At the same time, Yerrawa has been rocked by a wave of militant attacks carried out by ethnic Dinh groups opposed to recent political developments in Kimlien, stoking fears in Udon Nakhon that unrest could spill across the border or inspire unrest among South Dovani’s own Dinh minority communities. Some military figures in Udon Nakhon also fear growing collaboration between the Sumanese Liberation Front (SLF) and armed ethnic militias in Yerrawa. While the SLF officially denies ties to foreign militants, reports from provincial authorities indicate that arms, funds, and ideology are flowing between Sumanese separatists and Dinh militant factions active in Yerrawa. 

Prime Minister Prasert Thanomchai (UCF-PA) has been under increased pressure from nationalist parties in the National Assembly, particularly the militarist Strong Nation Party (SNP), upon which the minority government depends for supply and confidence, to take a firmer stance on insurgency and smuggling. SNP leader Gen. Baroma Thannajaro praised the military buildup, urging the government “to unleash the full force of our people's fury upon communist terrorists and the criminal networks they shelter, without mercy.” 

President Kob Suchinda, addressing an emergency session of the National Assembly in his dual capacity as Head of State and Commander-in-Chief, declared that “unity and vigilance” were paramount in defending the homeland against what he termed “a creeping web of sedition, drugs, and foreign manipulation.” He called upon citizens to cooperate with military and police forces, vowing that the military will restore “total harmony” throughout the eastern regions. The address was broadcast to a large audience, and drew resounding applause from most Assembly factions—though leftist and liberal parties, including the Justice Party and United Communities Party, remained seated, sparking criticism from patriots.

National People's Army spokesman Col. Thanandorn Prasongsanti provided only broad outlines of the operation, describing it as an “enhanced security initiative to neutralize destabilizing elements, safeguard national sovereignty, and to disrupt and destroy the operations of smugglers and bandits.” Though official details remain limited, analysts believe the operation may represent the largest coordinated military presence in the eastern provinces since the peak of the East South Dovani conflict in the 5550s. 

In border villages and towns, residents report intensified military patrols and ID checks, while several rural communes have seen temporary restrictions imposed on movement. Local leaders, particularly in ethnically diverse areas, have expressed cautious support for the operation, though some fear an escalation of violence if the security campaign is not carefully calibrated.

Anawin Announces Sweeping Education Reform

In a decisive move aimed at reversing what officials describe as decades of ideological drift and moral confusion, the Ministry of Education has introduced sweeping reforms to South Dovani’s national curriculum, placing renewed emphasis on patriotism, civic duty, and character formation. The policy reform spearheaded by Education Minister Anawin Jantarapong (HP-PA), dubbed the 'National Unity Curriculum,' includes a renewed focus on national history and cultural literacy, the reintroduction of structured physical training and civic drills as part of the daily school routine.

“This is not just about education,” Anawin declared during a press conference in the capital. “It’s about the unity of our nation, which can only be maintained by forging disciplined, patriotic, and moral citizens." 

The reform is widely interpreted as a cultural correction following the trauma inflicted during the time of Dictator Wasana Chaiyawan, whose revolutionary communist government abolished the monarchy and gutted national institutions, including the military, in favour of radical ideological experimentation and a violent, repressive cultural revolution. In the post-communist period, educators have struggled with inconsistent standards, fragmented curricula, and rising concern over youth alienation, especially in regions affected by ethnic insurgency and political unrest, such as eastern South Dovani.

Minister Anawin’s initiative seeks to reverse that trend by instilling a formal moral framework, formally known as the Four Core Values of a Hanzenese Citizen, across all schools in the republic. The Four Core Values, to be taught through daily classroom discussions, recitations, and projects, include:

1. Loyalty to the nation, a religion, and the preservation of your culture
   
2. Upholding filial piety towards parents, guardians, elders, teachers and mentors
   
3. Practicing integrity, generosity, and respect for the civic order
   
4. Maintaining discipline and caring for one's physical, mental, and spiritual health 
   

Like South Dovani's traditional coming-of-age rites, such as monastery ordination and the national draft lottery, the new curriculum is designed to foster a sense of duty and responsibility among youth, with schools encouraged to align extracurricular activities with the Four Core Values, including student leadership councils, flag-raising ceremonies, and temple visits or local spiritual observances. Crucially, the curriculum will teach national history with an emphasis on the Kingdoms of the past, rehabilitating countless millennia of royal history suppressed by the communist cultural revolution.

Student sports and athletics will receive additional funding and support; while not mandatory, the practice of Muay Hanzai will be encouraged as a way to teach male students key values such as discipline, resilience, respect, and fighting spirit – qualities that are essential to a Hanzenese man. Moreover, the new curriculum includes a significant physical education component known as the Youth Readiness Program. This program will mandate basic training in emergency drills, team-based exercises, and national service simulations, led by active soldiers. Select students will be able to practice military drills under the instruction of Army soldiers. Analysts say the program has clear strategic implications, given the escalation in security concerns surrounding the eastern provinces. “Education reform is now part of the national security doctrine,” said Lt. Gen. Manote Chamras, a military advisor to the Ministry of Education. “All weak points of the state's integrity must be hardened.”

While some liberal civil rights groups have expressed concern over what they view as improper instruction in respect for laws and the nation, public support for the policy remains strong across broad sections of society. Conservatives and ordinary people have welcomed the reforms as a necessary course correction in response to the divisions and cultural rifts that have emerged since the communist period. Moreover, religious and cultural minorities have welcomed the reform, given that the pluralist language of the Four Core Values will require schools to accommodate all religious and cultural practices.

Educators Refuse Reactionary Four Core Values

Brave educators have risen spontaneously across the countryside against the indoctrination of the reactionary Anawin plan. School closures in the eastern provinces are widespread as teachers and staff, in solidarity, refuse to work while forced to teach the 'National Unity Curriculum' enforced by the ultra-right Prasert government.

What could be more malicious than using the force of government to lie to the children of South Dovani about the most basic fundamental truths of their shared heritage? The Four Core Values deny and would seek to destroy the vibrant multicultural diversity of the Republic. They militarize the school system to train children to hate and seek to destroy their South Dovanian brothers and sisters.

The UPM stands with the true patriots who, in the face of military occupation, still refuse the orders of Udon Nakhon and its fascist regime. All proud South Dovanians are indebted to their selfless unwillingness to serve as drill sergeants in the creation of a child militia meant to eradicate peaceful dissent.
