Five Years of Schuhbeck Delirium: The Triad in Uproar
May 5688

A defeated Schuhbeck

One of the most controversial presidential terms in the history of both the Triad as well as its predecessor the Dual Monarchy seems to never be ending, Annemarieke Schuhbeck, rumored to be a different person by many different corners of the political spectrum, has intentionally missed her term ending responsibility to hold elections, according to her  the delay is necessitated by the ongoing martial struggle between rebel forces and private military contractors hired by Bannerhafen to fight against the “incursion” into multiple Nisrad territories. But how has it come to this?

By February 5684 and the subsequent escalation of violence in the territory surrounding Sholemberg, the first members – mainly from junior coalition parnters - of the second Schuhbeck cabinet have denied their loyalty and have resigned their posts. In a rapid response, the President has stacked the empty posts with loyalists from her own party and independents from loyal administrative security divisions, which has again led to political backlash in the Senate and the radicalization to fundamental opposition from both the United People’s Party as well as the Great Reform Party. After these first hiccups in the maintenance of political capital, Schuhbeck started to increasingly govern via executive decree, eliminating restrictions on power by using legal loopholes left by old emergency power bills from the Jelbic Imperial era. Constitutional experts as well as first instances judges have called this behaviour “highly disturbing and illegitimate,” which has initiated a wave of ongoing protest movements supported even by the likes of the conservative VVP.

The fighting in Majatra continued as Schuhbeck fought domestic legal battles with tooth and nail, using all instruments available to hinder a speedy process in the courts; at the moment, the first cases reach the constitutional court of the nation. The public is currently waiting eagerly for the beginning of these trials while the President largely declined to comment and when she did, she was referring to the courts as “traitorous elements.” The drama culminated as even her own party members have started to desert her in an effort to save the crumbling DRP from itself, many have left for better waters in the private sector or have offered themselves up willingly for the prosecution which is currently lurking and waiting for the right moment to strike at heart of the legal coup of the incumbent.

In a last-ditch effort of saving face and resisting the President, the former Defence Minister Schorsch Forsch has tipped off the media and ordered high command in coordination with Neset lobbyists to stop the barrages hitting Sholemberg. After this, he was fired and was replaced by a Schuhbeck corporate loyalist from the military-industrial complex.

With her last grip on power slipping, the President has increasingly lost control over finances as parts of the lower administrative levels started to ignore her orders or being shut down by the Senate’s enforced control over the finances of the Triad. Elements of her own party, the VVP, the GRP and the NSU have all united in blocking every single measure planned or proposed by the government, halting all policy-decisions (if there were any aside of military-related ones). This has caused both supply and monetary issues within the mercenary forces – sometimes referred to as the “Schuhthugs” – leading to them retreating further back, nearing the defensive lines set up by the actual standing Triad military. According to unconfirmed reports from local investigators the military has arrested several fleeing mercenary officers due to “offenses against merchant principles” one of the most dangerous charges in the Triad judicial system.

Now that the fighting has reached the outskirts of the Himmelshtern defensive line and Yishelem already being in the hands of the rebels, the Chancellor of Himmelshtern Karl-Heinz Sztermann has unilaterally called for negotiations with both the rebels and Vanuku as a mediator, using his local power to also order the generals of the standing army to hold any preamptive strikes or defensive maneuvers against the closing-in fighters. This act of defiance against the sitting President was the last nail in the coffin, her reign is over in all but name, the Chancellors have started to govern in her stead and are effectively coordinating with the Senate to approach the planned talks with the other parties in the conflict.

BREAKING: Senate circumvents Schuhbeck election trickery by Designating Stadhouder
July 5688

[Image: 1681630-inline-inline-1-the-creation-of-...wanson.jpg]
Stadhouder Karl-Heinz Sztermann

It seems like the last ace up the Presidents sleeve, the emergency measure allowing her to delay the election, has been neutralized by the Senate. In an surprising turn of events, the Senate under the leadership of former military-man and VVP chairman Heinrich Berger have found a legal possibility to circumvent the delay; back in the days of transition between the Dual Monarchy and the Triad, certain constitutional instruments outside of the main codification have not been repealed by the passage of the Triad Constitution, one of these is the Senate’s possibility to appoint a so-called “Stadhouder” a temporary office which is assuming any and all executive power from the cabinet in times of “qualified crisis.” According to the Senate legal committee as well as constitutional law Professor Marvin Heendrijks a situation such as this could qualify. This raises a question though, why should the President not just push for an injuction with the courts? The answer to this reveals the crucial part of this; the appointment of the Stadhouder is not under the jurisdiction of court review, as such the courts have no power over this decision.

After discovering and confirming the plausibility of this solution, the Senate moved quickly, in absence of another candidate, the Chancellor of Himmelshtern, Karl-Heinz Sztermann has been designated as Stadhouder, with the passage of the bill, he has now absolute executive authority ex lege without any other action necessary. His first executive decisions included the arrest of various cabinet members of the Schuhbeck administration, mostly the corporate loyalists symbolizing the last holdouts of presidential power in the Triad, additionally the Presidential Palace in Bannerhafen is now under the control of Darnussian Member Republic Forces and they’ve been blocking any attempt of the President communicating with the outside world which functionally makes Schuhbeck a prisoner within her own seat of power. The last order of the first day of Stadhoudership was the order to the army to push forward to detain the remaining mercenary forces and the authorization to the army officers to initiate any and all available communications with the hostile forces. According to the temporary Office of Foreign Affairs in the Stadhouders Authority, there have been invitations going out to Wiel, Sholemberg and Tel Bira to Jorgen Island in an effort to officially initiate talks.

Stadhouder Sztermann responds to Selucian Crimes against Humanity: The Triad will defend the human rights of the Selucian Yeudis
July 5688

Even while the newly appointed Stadhouder Karl-Heinz Sztermann is busy cleaning out pockets of political resistance at home and the peaceful conclusion of the “Schuhbeck-Terrors” he has found time to hold a ad-hoc press conference about the human-rights violations in Selucia. In the quite hasty speech the Stadhouder has announced that the Triad urges the Selucian government adamantly to immediately redeem the situations they’ve put their own citizens in and also offered to take the interned Yeudis in as refugees. After an initial appeal to the humanity of all stakeholders in he area, Sztermann threatened to put sanctions on the Selucian regime if they will not abide by the fundamental principles of civilizational responsibility. “The current regime of Selucia certainly is not representative of the Selucian populace and I fear for the political rights of other group of citizens too, but our first order of business is to immediately get that son-of-a-bitch Imper-what-so-ever to cease this genocidal pattern of state action.” Those were some of the exact words Sztermann has voiced at the ad-hoc press conference shortly before leaving the halls with a cheeseburger in hands. According to his aides tasked with communicating with the media about foreign policy, the Triad is in talks with different regional stakeholders such as Istalia as to what coordinated approach in regards to this tragedy could possibly be arranged.

Stadhouder signs Treaty with new Yishelem government, Vanuku and other involved parties: Triad at peace and hit by wave of political “Yeudi exhaustion”
February 5689

Stadhouder Karl-Heinz Sztermann being happy to cut the budget

After arduous years of domestic political stagnation, the Triad was forced into due to the “Schuhbeck-Terrors,” finally a treaty has been signed allowing the politically tried three republics to sigh in relief and turn toward the future.

Immediately after ratifying the new paperwork the Stadhouder went into an offensive position on the other points of his agenda, he has now officially announced the date of the next election. According to the released material the elections are to take place in May of 5689 ending the delay after one year of political uncertainty. Senators from all sides of the aisle have confirmed that they’ve been participating in the coordination of the political “healing” of the Triad. Political analysts explain that the next elections are going to shift the power dynamics within the Senate immensely one of the reasons: The Triad has lost some of its electorate. The new cut to size Third Republic of Himmelshtern has lost most of its political relevance in national elections meaning that Narikaton and Darnussia have been re-positioned as the power center of the State. The VVP also surprisingly confirmed upon inquiry that the Stadhouder Karl-Heinz Sztermann is going to run on their ticket for the empty presidential office, which obviously is a foruntate circumstance for the conservative party as that would lead to them likely dominating both the Senate and the Executive. Opinion polling institutes have unanimously stated that there is “absolutely no chance that anyone could beat Sztermann at this moment.” The electorate was more surprised as this revelation as most of them expected the Senate Faction Leader and Party Chairman Heinrich “Bigman” Berger to contest the office. Professor Ulrich Fanhorstfesnchadforst from the University of Merenbürg speculates that the VVP does not want to sacrifice Berger in the current unstable political climate.

On another hand many questioned on how foreign policy would continue; There is a lot of uncertainty and tension in the air between the Triad and its former allies in Wiel as well as Melikhvan, the current emergency-cabinet was not ready to answer these questions as they were going to need to continue negotiations with the individual parties but for now it seems that the conclusion of the Terrors is going to normalize relations somewhat. Either way, a solution to these problems has to be found soon as possible as the corporate lobbying block has been protesting for quite a while, both the commercial good industrial titans are unhappy due to them reaping the negatives of the conflict and now due to peace also the Weapon Barons are to-be placated because their weapon sales are presumably going to go down.

At least one thing we know: Sztermann has announced his first policy aside of running for election, a VVP classic: He’s going to slash parts of the budget. Specifically, he’s going to slash all money going to the defense of Amudim as the new treaty relieves the Triad of all Amudim-related duties, all money going toward the maintenance of the former Nisrads and their navy is now going to slashed and cut. Additionally, other Yeudi-cultural related projects, integration efforts and 3rd Point Federation dues are going to leave a nice, freed budget which makes the good old conservatives very happy as can be seen in the first promotional material released in regard to the campaign. Some have dubbed this "Yeudi-exhaustion" which is also generally visible within the Triad public, most parties that intend to contest the next election have toned down their pro-yeudi tone. Since we’ve mentioned the Federation, we’ve also tried on inquiring on its future but have been left without any conclusive response, at least the Directorate of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the Federation is not going to be continued in its original form.

Unsurprising: Sztermann and Berger VVP sweep polls in 5689 post-Schuhbeck Elections
May 5689

Quite a comforting sight for many sore eyes was the announcement of the results of the 5689 federal elections of the Triad Republic. The Vereinigte Volkspartei and its presidential candidate as well as incumbent Stadhouder Karl-Heinz Sztermann have won their respective elections with an overwhelming majority, the electorate on social media speak of a “righteous conservative landslide” and a “punch in the gut for corrupt leftists and centrist Schuhbeck-bootlickers.”

In federal parliament, the Senate, the conservatives have won 44% of the vote almost handing them an absolute majority, while they did not reach that goal, this is the biggest a party has gotten since the breakdown of the two party system after the Lackmann-coup. The Senate conservatives with their leader ‘Bigman’ Berger have the freedom of choice in regards to a coalition partner, while no one expects them to choose the Social Democratic GRP, the possibility is theoretically possible which would lead to a government with a constitutional majority. This potential super-majority could be useful in plans for institutional safekeeping, plans which in the context of the Schuhbeck disaster seem like a sensible democratic safeguard to have. Speaking of the Social Democrats: The GRP too have made large gains (33%) mostly at the cost of the DRP which has not even made it into the Senate, immediately dissolving after the election night ended. Now 77% still leaves a large chunk of the electorate open, two new parties which replace the Thallerist hole left by the rebranded NU have each earned the confidence of 10% of the electorate. The United Triad Party for Thallerist Liberalism and the United Triad Party for Liberal Thallerism led by Werner as well as Warner von Thaller have consolidated a lot of disgruntled voters from all sectors of the political landscape. Some politically uneducated members of the public have questioned the necessity of two Thallerist parties and voicing their confusion at the seemingly subtle differences of the two parties. Political Analyst and Expert for Jelbo-Triad relations Ulf van Houskrnkrék explains that the difference between the two Thallerists parties is “quite obvious to the knowing eye.” He continued “The UTP-FTL advocates for a very distinct kind of Thallerism with free market liberal or rather market economics characteristics while the UTP-FLT obviously instead leads campaigns on the basis of Liberalism with very easy to spot Thallerist traits.” The former junior partner in the Schuhbeck-coalition, the far-right National Union have managed to “stay alive” politically but barely managed to win enough votes to beat the threshold to the Senate.

The presidential race revealed the least surprising turn of events: Sztermann, who actually ran unopposed has managed to win 100% (who would have thought?) with a turnout of 89% of the electorate making their way to the ballot boxes to show their support in the steadfast Stadhouder responsible for beating the political deadlock caused by the undemocratic actions of the traitor-President Schuhbeck. Sztermann ran on a campaign of stability and in his words “fixing the geopolitical mess left by the soft-communists known as the Democratic Republicans.” So what can we expect? A double dose of the orange lion dominating politics.
