The 4949 Kalistani Elections show even more decline for SPoK
CoW has taken 235 of the 250 seats of the National Assembly

Current seats of the National Assembly

All seats by party (from left to right)
SPoK - 15
WP (CoW) - 63
420 - (CoW) 42
Reg. - (CoW) 33
MP - (CoW) 56
KBA - (CoW) 41

The Coalition of Workers seems to not have been hugely affected by their shattering, and instead seem to have gained even more support from the Kalistani citizens. The Socialist Party on the other hand lost 9 more seats since the last election.
The parties inside the Coalition of Workers all did better than the standalone Socialist Party. The Worker's Party emerged victorious with the most seats out of all, and are negotiating for a new cabinet with the other parties.

George Billson, the President of the Worker's Party, and a candidate for the President of the Coalition of Workers has given a statement for the new cabinet negotiations:
Quote:I do not think this cabinet will include the Socialist Party. Their decline has been massive, and I think the people have spoken, and clearly do not want them in government. We will still be enforcing the separation of powers act, and will support the SPoK's candidate for presidency. We have planned for a cabinet with the Growers Party, and the Mainland Party. Jones Greenman and Peter Fort have reached out to me, and I can support their goals. We will be proposing this cabinet soon.

The Coalition of Workers is filled with infighting, as the Regulation Party and Kalistani Business Association have clearly voiced their opinion against this proposed cabinet. Jessica Browner, leader of the Regulation Party stated "These parties care nothing about regulations, all they want is freedom with no regard to consequences they might have!" Many members of the KBA disagree with this statement, but are regardless in favor of a different cabinet.

Socialist Party Reorganizes under new Leadership
Alice Marin believes Kalistan needs a "Default Socialist Outlook"

Kaliburg, Ananto
April 7, 4993

Alice Marin speaks before a conference of Socialists at New party organizing session

Long the Institutionalist Dragon of Kalistani politics, the Socialist Party of Kalistan has been absent for much of the last 5 decades in Kalistani politics. As with other periods of extended SP absence, in the interim, culture and economy have both dove into oblivion in the Republic. One young politician aims to change that.

Alice Marin, 31, who teaches Music History at Vrassa District University in Vrassa City, describes herself as a socialist-leaning independent. "The Socialists in this country have had a remarkable history and tenure at the helm of the Kalistani State," said Marin. "The long term success of the Republic shows that Kalistan needs a default Socialist Outlook, but one that is sadly missing in modern politics. Those who held the tiller on the ship of state of the past century are all in retirement or are dead. The ones who oversaw the rebuilding of Kaliburg are dead. The ones who led us to victory time after time on the international music stage are long gone. It is time to reignite the fire that runs at the heart of the Kalistani engine."

Marin has held a number of important meetings across the country to judge the support for a revitalized Socialist Party of Kalistan. "We think it stands a chance at least," said Marin. "There is a little appetite for a new Party and since the return of the Socialist Party usually precedes the return of Kalistani Politics to center stage in World Affairs, we assume that it won't be long before other nations once more turn their focus toward the Pirate Republic. We welcome the attention and look forward to taking our rightful place once more at the center of Terra."

Marin intends to hold an official Party launch within the week, where she will put her name forward at the head of a slate of Ministers who will, upon capturing the National Assembly, become the Government of the Republic.

Kalistani Film Industry first cultural institutions to restart
Slate of movies to be released in coming season

Sulari, Suldanor

Republican Studios is releasing a slate of new motion pictures for the fall in an effort to reignite the Kalistani film industry. Over the past 50 years, Kalistan has rarely produced a film of any consequence locally, opting to co-produce or "present" foreign films. As a result, Kalistani cinema has been dominated by heavily subtitled fare which is mostly bad, and often requires substantial explanation for most audiences. The decline in movie attendance is the predictable outcome, along with closing of cinemas in many areas of the nation, as citizens flocked to whatever has remained of television.

"Kalistanis are partial to our own cinema and our own actors," said Victor Powell, who is the head of the United Cinema's guild. "As the movie industry has become decadent and has begun leaning more heavily on foreign films, they have not been meeting their consumers where the consumers are at." Powell describes fan complaints of being talked down to, while foreign film makers argue for the superiority of foreign cultures over Kalistan.

"Its about time Kalistan return to the film industry and begin producing movies for Kalistani consumption first," said Powell. "We need to relegate those foreign films to niche cinemas where they have traditionally had a small but devoted following. In the main theaters, we need to bring back Kalistani film making."

As if in answer to Powell, and most movie fans' demands, Republican Studios in Sulari has announced that several of its projects are entering post production and will be ready for general audiences by mid September.

"We have no fewer than 7 films ready for nationwide distribution," said Republican Studios' spokeswoman Maryanne Hermosa. "At the top of our promotion are two films that we are incredibly optimistic about. The First is a stoner comedy about two spies who are in trouble with their agency because they are just bad spies, called 'Stoned Cold Killas'. That one stars the up and coming actors of young Sulari Kristi Alvarez and Bill Eggleston, and will be released September 10 of this year. The second is a rockumentary about the late 49th Century Ska band Red Tone called 'Dana Dance Party.' The film chronicles the explosion of Suldanor Ska and Ska Punk following the arrival of Hutori Ska band The Gang, at the turn of the last century and focuses on the life and time of lead singer Monica Pella and her role in driving the scene into the National Spotlight."

Monica Pella fronts her band from the last 4800's in a scene from the new Rock Documentary "Dana Dance Party"

Hermosa was excited about the soundtrack of Dana Dance Party. "We have a who's who of Suldanor Ska bands for this show, and even have some later in life retrospective footage with Pella which will really add a lot of depth to the movie," which will be released September 17, said Hermosa. "For those into music history, this one is a must see.:

Cultural commentators hope that the release of these movies, as well as the others slated for release before the end of October will restore interest in Kalistani Culture generally and the Kalistani film industry specifically. "These times have been hard for all of us," said Powell. "But giving people something that they want can't possibly be a bad thing."

Special prices to encourage attendance will be offered on all Kalistani movies released in September.

The National Assembly and the Presidency will work in harmony with the Government and we will initiate massive reforms and provide the people with a decisive state which not only promises but also acts ! Socialists to Organize Party Conference For Legislative Bid
"Privatized Health System Does not serve all Kalistanis" says Party Secretary

Kaliburg, Ananto
December 1, 5033

Socialist Party Stickers are recent organizing Conference hint at revitalized role for the SPoK

The last Socialist Caretaker government now a distant memory, a new generation of Socialists have decided to take up the banner of Leftist Institutionalism in Kalistan. An organizing conference, held at Kaliburg Polytechnic University in Kaliburg, ended with a resolution to re-establish the Socialist Party of Kalistan in its traditional Headquarters in downtown Kaliburg, organize a Legislative slate and begin reorganizing the National Party.

Party Secretary Thomas Darby-Linn said the Party would like to focus on restoring the Publicly Funded Healthcare System. "By and large, our Liberal Government has left the Economy alone, but the biggest change they have made, unfortunately is in the privatization of the Health Industry. The effect is to patronize the poor with dehumanizing means testing, and then to leave everyone else to their own devices. The wealthy of course can afford the best care, but that drives up costs for the whole system, including working people as well as the State. The result is that the privatized health system does not serve all Kalistani's equally."

This relatively moderate platform was accompanied by calls to restore the proper title of the Head of Government, the restoration of free pharmaceuticals under ODEN, and the return of the 0% tax bracket, to give the poor a stake in the spending programs in the Republic.

"We are happy that the Liberals haven't gone overboard with altering the fabric of Kalistani Society the way Past right wing parties have, but the SP is obviously committed to the correct alignment of policy and population, and so, we will support the majority in areas of common agreement, and move to change things we disagree upon."

Darby-Linn will remain the head of the Party, until legislative candidates for office are named. Darby-Linn has opted not to run for office.

Socialist Party Fires up Radio Kaliburg
New Signal Booster boosts SW and AM frequencies for wide Propagation

Kaliburg Ananto
October 1, 5034

Alice Greene, Radio Kaliburg's Evening Drive DJ just before a set

In an effort to revitalize the cultural foundations of Kalistan, The Socialist Party of Kalistan has reopened and remodeled the studios of Radio Kaliburg, and have begun broadcasting over 5890 Hz and 11390Hz on SW and 750 KHz on the AM dial. "Our transmitter operated at 100,000 Watts of power for the broadest possible propagation of the KRKB Signal," said newly hired station manager Hiro Matsuda-Donaldson. "Our aim is propagation of the signal across Northern Seleya on AM and Keris and the rest of Seleya and Western Dovani on SW. To get this sort of propagation, we will be transmitting at a higher wattage than ever before."

Radio Kaliburg, which has traditionally served as a propaganda station for the Socialist Party has adopted a more traditional format upon its reincarnation. "Radio Kaliburg has served national interests in the past," said Matsuda. "But if we are going to appeal to listeners abroad, we need to adopt a more traditional radio format." Matsuda said that besides morning talk and music and afternoon drivetime shows, the radio station will have an hour of international news between 3 and 4 pm KST which will contain headlines of the day from both Seleya and the Anantonese and Mad Dog Ocean basins, as well as feature stories. In pursuit of international news, Radio Kaliburg intends to establish foreign bureaus in Likatonia, New Endralon and Luorenne.

Throughout the day, the station will play popular music with about 5/6th of the songs coming from Kalistani recording artists, but 1/6th of the songs coming from artists who are popular overseas. "We would like to diversify our catalog," said Matsuda, "and would focus both on major label and independent music from the Republic and from our neighbors. It is good for the Kalistani population to hear music from other countries, and we think that other countries will benefit from hearing both our music, as well as their own, to perhaps inspire them to build their own radio stations and markets."

Radio Kaliburg's first broadcast started at 5pm KST last Friday. "This... is Radio Kaliburg- Seleya's ONLY Alternative" the voive of Radio Kaliburg's Evening Drive DJ Alice Greene announced as the broadcast began. Kalistani nationals in Telemon announced that they received the signal over Shortwave on 5890. In Egelion, 11390 lit up at the start of the broadcast, and the AM signal was received as far away as Thiers Lourenne, and Ellington Lodamun. Vespiano Gaduridos reported an intermittent signal on 5890 Hz and no signal at all on AM.

Radio Kaliburg hopes once more to be a flagship station in the Republic. "Given that KRTVN broadcasts on FM, for domestic audiences, as well as VHF, UHF and Digital for domestic and international audiences, Radio Kaliburg is the only station that currently broadcasts explicitly with an international audience in mind in any way. This makes us the voice of Kalistan abroad. And as a station that remains outside the KRTVN, we can do and play things that the National System cannot. This offers an alternative voice and track list for the Republic, both at home and abroad. We still count KRTVN stations as our sister stations, but we also stand a little apart from them."

Radio Kaliburg began 24 hour programming this week, with fully unedited versions of music broadcast after 9pm.

Perry named Party Speaker and Shadow Premier
Vows to move Platform into Law

Kaliburg, Ananto
October 31, 5034

Diego Perry, 57, from Neveras City, named Speaker of the Socialist Party

In an uncontroversial selection, the Socialist Party's Special Convention selected outsider Labor leader Diego Perry from Neveras City, as the Party's leader to replace outgoing interim leader Thomas Darby-Linn, who will return full time to his post as Party Secretary. "This organizational step represents a giant leap forward for the reorganization of our Party," said Perry when accepting the post. "We certainly would like to thank the Liberal Democrats for their care taking of most of our Nation's institutions over the years. Under their moderate leadership, our country has fared well, and no serious changes have been made to the constitution. And now, we move forward as we try to restore health care for more Kalistanis, as well as return the title of the Head of Government to its traditional value."

Perry said Socialists are currently being recruited for office in the elections in just over two years. "We have some work to do to get our message before voters," said Perry. "But I am confident we can make inroads and begin to offer serious cooperative opposition within the Kalistani National Assembly." Perry said the SP will not run a candidate for President of the Republic in 5036, but will make a serious bid for the Premiership.

"Besides our efforts to restore healthcare for all Kalistanis," said Perry, "our Nation's standing in culture have taken a hit from years of neglect. It is reasonable that Kalistan's Institutional Party should once more work to revive our music, Movie, and festival scenes." Perry said that regardless of what the Government does, the Socialist Party seeks to raise and invest significant sums of money in Kalistan's Culture apparatus which has a long history of dominance. "If given the choice between making records and making steel to compete in world markets, Kalistan has a comparative advantage in Records. We should promote the sector that we're good at."

The SP looks for cooperation with and from the LDP in the coming years as it gets its feet back under itself.

Global Music Hall of Fame Announces New FOMAT
Focus is on international music showcase

Luxon Ananto
January 3, 5035

Tom Alvares, Museum Director of the GMHoF, announcing new International Showcase

The Global Music Hall of Fame in Luxon is making a bid to reignite the popular international Music festival known as FOMAT, which was last held in 4968 in Lodamun.

"Today, we seek to reignite a semi-regular gloabal music festival of music, a long standing tradition, and as some would call it, the Olympics of Musical Arts," said Global Music Hall of Fame director Tom Alvares. "The FOMAT was a beloved tradition that at one point drew songs from nearly 20 different countries across the globe. It should make sense then that Kalistan, a country which thrived in such an event, should not only want to revive the festival, but host it."

Alvares said that a festival committee had been established to begin coordinating the event at the GMHoF in Luxon. "The one thing they were adamant about was the notion that all nations arrive and leave as equals." Alvares reported that the organizers of the festival would like to ensure that it remains a showcase of national music in an international arena. In short, the FOMAT that is being planned is not to be a competition at all, the way the previous 17 were, but perhaps truer to the original vision, should be an opportunity for countries to show off on their own terms, to bring to Kalistan the best music they have and expose their musical culture to the rest of the world.

Kalistan has long been the center of the recorded music world, but sadly, the GMHoF has primarily inducted Kalistani recording artists, or musicians that made their mark in Kalistan. "We would like this to change," said Alvares. "We would like the world to come to Kalistan, to mix with one another, to see what each other are doing, and to show off a bit. Without the added pressure of figuring out music that will play well with local judges, each country can determine its own criteria of what music is sent to the FOMAT. As long as it is the best, most culturally reflective music that a nation has to offer this year, it will receive the stage for the whole world to watch!"

Alvares said that the date of July 15, 5037 was decided on as the date that FOMAT opens. There will be several stages, as well as a walking tour of exhibits about each band. There will be food from international vendors as well, and exhibitions of adjacent media, like film and visual arts that are associated with music. "The entire world is welcomed to attend, and we look forward to robust participation from the Nations of Terra."

Registration for the event will begin within the year, and then the show will be broadcast on terrestrial and satellite television, radio, and internet across the globe.
