President of the Republic posts "Aldegarian Papers"
Alleges Foreign attempts to Destabilize Kalistani Government
Kaliburg, Ananto
December 12, 4115
Kalistan's experiment with Single Party government is not five years old yet, and already foreign governments are working to tear it apart. Interestingly enough the first organized conspiracy comes from Aldegar, where a single Party, the self-styled Republican Union, has ruled exclusively for more than 15 years, without any sort of opposition. Why they have no opposition, be it from lack of interest or from extreme repression on the part of the RU, is only open to conjecture, but they have no record of a contested election while they have been active, so it is up to the reader to draw their own conclusions about why Aldegar's ruling Party has complete control over all levers of the Government. What is clear is that the Ruling Party of Aldegar hypocritically declares that Kalistan's One Party, multi-tendency system excludes democratic competition, because our government specifically outlaw populist movements who (facetiously) claim a source of political power outside the Government of Kalistan, and fascist Parties, but permit every other shade of political ideology within Left Kalistan (as evidenced by the variety of caucuses that we have currently, ranging from Left Metzists to Neo-Conservatives).
In an effort to pull this wicked conspiracy out from the shadows, the President has posted what has come in recent days to be known as "The Aldegar Papers". The President said, following the delivery and publication of her bombshell letter, "We do not attempt to tell another nation how they should organize their government. We willingly trade with all states, regardless of their political regime. We do not support movements aimed at overthrowing political regimes. We have not made a single comment on Aldegar's One Party State until today. We practice the norm of non-intervention, and we do not think it is unreasonable to insist that other nations do not interfere with our system. If we change it will because Kalistani's have demanded change. But if it is seen that other nations are attempting to interfere with our nation, we will not tolerate it. If this sort of interference continues, we will ask the Interior Minister to begin rounding up Aldegarian nationals in Kalistan and ejecting them for violation of the Espionage Act. We will show the same attitude toward other nations who have signed on to this conspiracy."
With this statement, we now present the complete letter from the President to the National Assembly.
Quote:Message from the President of the Republic, Maggie Lancaster:
We have been apprised of a Conspiracy coming from the Shahdom of Aldegar. They are a single-Party State who have been attempting to organize nations against Kalistan. We received two message from two separate heads of State who have individually approached by the unopposed leader of Aldegar. When we asked to leader of Aldegar about this effort, the conspiracy was confirmed, and we sent a strongly worded reply. We will present the evidence of this conspiracy below, and we will also publicize this conspiracy in the National Paper. As Kalistanis, we should never permit external interference in Kalistani Politics. Aldegar, nor any nation, rates to question the decisions we as a nation make within our own country. Nor should we permit destablization by foreign agents. I ask the Assembly to begin preparing a contingency plan for such an occasion that Aldegar's conspiracy begins to bear fruit. because the Foreign Heads of state who have contacted us suggest that they were not the only ones clandestinely contacted by Aldegar.
Letters to My office (Names and identifying details redacted off to protect anonymity. We will be happy to provide full texts to any Deputy upon request.)
Quote:1. President Lancaster,
We belive that the nation of Aldegar might take actions agents (sic.) your nation because they belive that your nations restricting other political voices. I send you this message as a warning that Aldgar is dragging other nations against you and might cause a conflict
thank you for your time,
(redacted)
Quote:2. Greetings Kalistan Ruling Party,
We have some information for you. The nation of Algedar is planning something to go against your nation's One Party-Several Caucus system. They invited me to their cause against you but since your ideology (redacted). In view of this, I pledge support to your nation. Please get back to me on this issue.
Kind regards,
(redacted)
Quote:3. Message to Aldegarian Government from my Office:
Dear Principal Haniz,
We have been informed by several heads of state that Aldegar is planning action against Kalistan in protest of our one Party System? We are confused about this. And so, out of respect for our long and overall positive relationship, we thought it would be advisable to bring this question to you first. Is there some sort of action your country is engaged in against my country? If not, please say so, and if so, we should have further discussion on the matter before it leads to any unpleasantness between our two nations.
Thank you for your consideration,
Serenely,
Maggie Lancaster
LK-SLC
President of the Republic, United Republic of Kalistan
Quote:4. Response from Aldegarian Government to My Office
Greetings,
We are extremely concerned about any form of One Party states. Despite allowing different caucuses, you do not allow many political ideologies to be represented - and you claim this One Party is libertarian when it does not allow for anyone to support 'authoritarian' ideas (ie border controls etc). Fascism and totalitarianism are to be banned? Such an absolute is indeed totalitarian in nature. We urge this system to be repealed and allow any views to be expressed politically - it is vitally important for progression in any democracy, which frankly, you are not at this time.
Sharif Assad
Quote:5. Response from My Office to the Government of Aldegar
Greetings,
It is true then.
We notice that your system only actually has one Party in it. So it seems a bit hypocritical then to us why your nation, of all nations would oppose a multi-tendency system such as Kalistan has. And we find it incredibly inappropriate for your ACTUALLY one-Party state to lecture another sovereign nation on the form of government we choose for ourselves. To our knowledge, your concern is completely external to Kalistan.
In short, thank you for your concern, but Kalistan's government is really none of Aldegar's business.
We wish your government no enmity, but you really have zero stake in Kalistan's government. And any attempt to change our system of government, whether diplomatic or any other way, will do irreparable damage to our relationship. I can assure you, we will view external interference as an act of hostility, and will react accordingly.
Peace to you.
President Lancaster
PS- We will be publicizing this exchange for the benefit of our Deputies. Your secret conspiracies will not be welcomed among Kalistan's legislature.
*****************
We would like to thank our Deputies for their prompt attention to this matter. Again, we will happily provide all redacted information upon request. And it is our hope that our characterization of this matter as an entirely external one is accurate. I believe, however, that all deputies will take this threat to our system of government as seriously as I do, and we can formulate a response as a unified government.
Sincerely,
Maggie Lancaster

ODEN Announces stoppage of exports to New Endralon
"If they don't want it, we won't send it," says Magelleno
Dahreil, Ananto
July 7, 4116
ODEN Chief, Juan Magelleno, explains how ODEN policy now requires the non-exportation of both "illicit" and "therapeutic" drugs to the Commonwealth
With New Endralon considering breaking the Anantanese Ocean Pact over Kalistan's commitment to free Trade, ODEN chief Juan Magelleno issued a statement yesterday declaring that ODEN products will no longer be shipped to the Commonwealth. Below is his statement in full:
Quote:"We understand that the Commonwealth, who recently passed illegal trade sanctions against Kalistan, which their own government itself has declared illegal, have now undertaken to abrogate the Anantanese Ocean Pact and to withdraw their support for Kalistan in the Security Council. Their efforts, as have recently been fairly typical, are directed specifically at ODEN. So, in consultation with the President, the Premier and the Foreign Minister, ODEN Board members have decided that The Commonwealth of New Endralon and Kizenia will no longer be eligible to receive ODEN products, or any products with ODEN stamps.
"It is regrettable that they have chosen to attempt to punish Kalistan. But due to their short sightedness, ODEN will no longer send their country any product licensed by our cartel. While this includes chemicals that they call illicit, it will also include access to our wide array of therapeutic pharmaceuticals. We regret to take this position on the drugs, but they do not get to decide which of our products they import. If they don't want it, we won't send it. But in this, they have won, and our hands are tied. Their policy toward us is mean-spirited; our Policy is therefore consistent with their ridiculous and self-destructive demands.
"This should mean of course that illicit drugs should theoretically become unavailable to the people of the Commonwealth- We don't know how well they interdict drugs coming from sources beyond their port in Tiania, where all of our shipments travel to. Whatever happens, we will not be the ones selling their people drugs they have irresponsibly deemed "illegal." But it also means, unfortunately, that legal drug supplies from Kalistan will also dry up. Pharmaceutical prices for the poor will go up due to a Commonwealth-generated shortage. Many people may have extreme difficulty finding life saving pharmaceuticals which ODEN produces and until now sold to the Commonwealth at well below cost, and unfortunately some of the Commonwealth's citizens will have to delay treatment, if they can afford it at all. The Commonwealth will have to find other sources of licit pharmaceuticals to make up for the total embargo on all physiological-altering chemistry which had previously been sent from ODEN in Kalistan.
"It is our hope that the people of the Commonwealth will prevail upon their government that the punitive actions of their government are hurting them. The gang of thug religious fanatics in the the HDU, specifically are to blame for this hyper-moronicism. We hope that the leaders of the HDU specifically will get their heads on straight, and it is more so our hope that none of these nutjobs catch a disease which our drugs could have treated, but due to their idiotic policies, are no longer being sent to their country. Well, as always, we at ODEN have been happy to give people what they want.
"On one final note, we understand that the position of the Government of Kalistan is still one of completely open borders, and they would probably have it known that they welcome all citizens of the Commonwealth to Kalistan to receive any and all necessary medical treatment at Kalistani prices, as well as all tourists who wish to visit Kalistan to use the drugs their Government patriarchally seeks to deny to them. ODEN stores are open to all people, including citizens of the Commonwealth, within Kalistan, where they may still purchase all ODEN products without regard to the opinions of the ecclesiastical reactionaries in the HDU."

Bjorksdattir signals the end of One-Party System
"One Party Rule is Total Failure" Bjorksdattir said
Kalibug, Ananto
August 22, 4116
An exasperated First Term Premier, Louise Bjorksdattir, proposes end to seven and a half year old experiment
Premier of the Republic, Louise Bjorksdattir, reluctantly posted a bill which which would officially end the One Party State in Kalistan. The Republic's Political Director, Gladys Fran, sat down with the Brethrenist Premier to ask her some questions about the move.
Quote:G(ladys) F(ran): Comrade Premier. It's been seven and a half years since your predecessor, the late Premier Carrangus formally set Kalistan on a course of One-Party rule. Why abandon the effort so soon?
L(ouise) B(jorksdattir): Why abandon it? Is this your question?
GF: Yes, why abandon the Single Party structure?
LB: We did not abandon it. Given the wide ideological variety of LK's caucuses, it no longer makes sense. One Party rule in Kalistan is a total failure.
GF: Why would you say this is?
LB: We will get to the point. Neo-Conservatives in LK? Caucuses who call for curfews and the abandonment of much of the dual economy? To call our Party unified would be a sham.
GF: We know the idea behind Left Kalistan was to provide a solid unified platform for running the government.
LB: Precisely. The idea was originally that bills would be brought forward, we would discuss them, we would work out a set of proposals that would be acceptable to the majority of the caucuses, and then we would move the bill forward. If this had happened, we would be able to say that Left Kalistan existed in reality. But instead, Caucuses would propose bills and then move them to a vote with no discussion whatsoever. We only had an opportunity to debate them after it was too late to amend them. This defeated any sort of democratic centralism which the initial bill anticipated. It is doubtful that some caucuses, thinking specifically of the Neo-Conservative caucus, would ever go along with this program.
GF: Would you say that the project was fatally flawed from the start?
LB: Not necessarily. If we had had more time as the single caucus within LK before we started having to deal with platform development bills, we could have worked out some of these bugs before their influence was magnified by actual competition.
GF: Would your Government consider a modified version of the Single Party State?
LB: No.
GF: Excuse me. Would you please explain why not?
LB: There is entirely too much diversity of opinion in Kalistan. Kalistan's political system is inexplicably entirely too turbulent, I would say more so than most nations. We see much higher turn over than most states, for some reason. A single Party is not suitable for Kalistan- it just attracts opposition.
GF: What is the future of the Socialist Party of Kalistan when Left Kalistan ends?
LB: I suppose this remains to be seen. We still have several elements which have to be reconciled within what was and will be again the Socialist Party. We still acknowledge the Labour Caucus within the SP. And the political relationship between the Brethren and the Socialists remains ambiguous. We merely have to look at the Lourenne, where an explicitly Brethrenist Party has gained seats, to see that Brethrenism can be a viable political force. Kalistan has been a majority Brethrenist Nation for more than a century. How do we square the fact that Brethrenists have served the SP as leaders for all this time, and are having some success elsewhere, but there is no explicitly Brethrenist Political Party here in Kalistan? This is also inexplicable.
GF: Finally, what is your take on the rupture of relations between Kalistan and New Endralon?
LB: I believe Magelleno has said everything that needs to be said. I support his comments.
GF: And Aldegar?
LB: That's a non-issue.
GF: Thank you, Comrade Premier.
LB: Thank you, Comrade Journalist.

Lancaster Dethroned
Former President Maggie Lancaster is replaced as leader of the Labour Caucus by fresh-faced Conti
Kaliburg, Ananto
November 6th, 4118
Outspoken new leader of the Labour Caucus Sophia Conti
Following this year's disappointing election results and the prior dissolution of the Left Kalistan programme, Maggie Lancaster, a pioneer of the single party state project, has been removed as the leader of the Labour Caucus in the Socialist Party of Kalistan. Her replacement, as a result of a vote of the Caucus' membership last week, will be 28-year-old Sophia Conti. Already, Conti has courted controversy after comments which appear to suggest she wants to reform the Labour Party emerged online. During a speech to her local Caucus members, Conti said she 'felt that [Labour] has become far too cosy with what is essentially an establishment Socialist Party regime'. Her position, it seems, is one that many Labour members share. Now that the Neoconservatives have shot to power, there is a fear that Kalistan could return to the dark era of Conservative Independence Party rule.
On other issues, Conti is almost identical to her predecessor. She opposes the eradication of national service and of the Organisation of Drug Exporting Nations but supports the retainment of the militias as an essential part of Kalistan's national defence. It would seem that the only area in which the two differ is the best way in which to advance those causes. Faced with a President who wants to appoint himself as a hereditary Monarch, despite a proud national history of Republicanism, it is essential that Labour and the Socialist Party resolve their outstanding differences swiftly. The Presidential nomination for the 4121 elections could be a turning point.

Christian Klepper goes hard on NCPoK in the National Assembly
July 15th, 4119
Monarchists and Militarists sharing the same room as me, disgusting!-White Rose Coalition Chair, Christian Klepper
Over the past few months Klepper has gone about harshly criticising the NCPoK's bills, such as Changing the Way of Thinking and Symbolism Bill. Declaring that the WRC won't stand by the NCPoK in any case. The NCPoK in fact declared that they wouldn't support any of the Coalition's bills if we didn't Quote:Get back on our train.
Christian believes that the best course is for everyone in the nation to go to the polls next election and throw the Neo-Cons out of office and out of government completely. Believing that another year of Neo-Con rule will lead to the Quote:down fall of Kalistani values and Democracy.

Bullish Conti Speaks Out
Popular Labour leader gives first major interview to The People's Press
Kaliburg, Ananto
July 19th, 4119
Sophia Conti is the youthful leader of the Labour Caucus
Less than a year since her election as leader of the Labour Caucus in the Socialist Party of Kalistan, Sophia Conti has called for dramatic change in Kalistan's bastion of Leftism. Speaking exclusively to Labour's premiere publication, The People's Press, she claimed that Labour should 'consider' reversing the merger. The full interview can be seen below.
Quote:(Olayinka Obama, reporter): Good evening, Miss Conti. It's fantastic to finally meet you, thanks for agreeing to talk to us.
(Sophia Conti): My pleasure.
O: What do you think the removal of Maggie Lancaster and your subsequent election as leader, says about the direction of the caucus?
C: I believe it shows that we are really, really determined to support the interests of working people in Kalistan. Personally, I find it rather rude to refer to Maggie's resignation as a 'removal', she was a personal mentor to me and I'm extremely grateful for the opportunities which she granted to me. She deserves a tremendous amount of credit for the fantastic work she did, especially during the transition from Labour Party to Labour Caucus. What you're essentially asking me is do I want to reverse that transition and the answer is that it should be considered. We are facing difficult times at the moment and just as our predecessors were forced to innovate, so are we.
O: What about the times we live in do you view as difficult, exactly?
C: The rise of the Neoconservatives, with their divisive rhetoric, blatant attempts establish an authoritarian regime and fascist tendencies, pose a very real risk to our nation's future. My parent's generation fought off the Fascism of the CIP through their membership of the Labour Party and we should be prepared to fight this new face of Fascism. My ultimate commitment, the reason I am in this business, is to serve the Kalistani people and create a country which works for as many people as possible. Now, if that means I have to shake things up then so be it. My duty to my country will always come above my popularity ratings.
O: Can you confirm you will be looking to re-establish the Labour Party, as you seem to have implied?
C: Not at this time. We're constantly meeting with the Socialist Caucus to see how we can resolve these issues which we face- around maintaining a unified party and performing well in elections- but I should make clear that this is not a fall out of any kind. The Socialists have been working on some matters of their own, the Premier in particular but we need to take some more time to reach a decision. Listen, I have no issues with being honest on this matter but we will have to wait and see.
O: Surely your Socialist counterparts won't be too thrilled with you being so, shall we say, unfiltered on this matter?
C: Likely not, that's what I'm trying to acknowledge. We will keep the public posted with major developments but we need to resolve this issue before 4121 because this election could determine the path that our nation follows for decades to come!
O: For the Presidential elections, will Labour be nominating a candidate or will the Socialists take a turn?
C: I will be running for President of the Republic.
O: Is that confirmed, Miss Conti?
C: 100%.
O: Well, thank you for speaking to me.
C: Again, it is my pleasure!

Christian Klepper Interviews The President
December, 25th, 4119
Video of the Interview:
It was about 5 in the Afternoon, after waiting for a hour in the G. News Lobby before the President was escorted to the room where three people were, one he didn't know, one being Chrisfian Klepper, and the other being the G. News HQ Camera Man. They escorted him to a seat infront of Christian and the unknown Woman.
Quote:C(hristian): Good day Mr. President, *Klepper reached out a hand to shake the President's hand*
R(oss):Ross proceeds to put his hand in his pocket, "Yeah.. nice to be here."
C:Christian stared at the President, looking almost shocked for a moment before pulling his hand back "Sir, shall we get to the interview?"
R:''What else are you gonna do, sit there and look stupid? Ask the questions!"
C:Christian shook his head "Well enough. Now, how do you feel about the chances that you will be kicked out of office early Mr. President?"
R:"I don't know where you get your facts from, your low budget might be the reason.. but we are not getting kicked out simple as that."
C:"I said the chances, if the Socialist Party votes in favor of holding a new election, you may be kicked out of the Presidential Office. But onto the next question, mind telling me why you proposed making yourself the King of Kalistan?"
R:"Next question."
C:"How do you feel about Homosexuality?"
R:"If your gay keep it to yourself, cause then I'm gonna be thinking about that instead of my job."
C:"Got it, what is your position of Unions and Worker Democracy?"
R:"Heh.. I hate it, let me be honest with you.. I like wealthy and our party favors wealthy and if you side with us more wealthy people will come with more jobs."
C:A deep frown covers Christian's face "Got it, you oppose the Working people that make up the entire nation, got it. Next question, do you understand that a flat tax rate would only destroy the income equality that currently exists in Kalistan, but you still support it, why?"
R:"I do understand that, you guys want equality on everything other than taxes, next question I don't like that one."
C:"What do you think of Pacifism in Kalistan?"
R:"Tell those people that I will stick a gun up their @#&.'
C:"Okay... Your position on a Woman's reproductive rights?"
R:"I like babies. Next."
C;"Your view on Socialism?"
R: "Burn them.. or if not that just don't vote for em.
C:"Who do you view as Socialists in Kalistan?"
R:"Everyone who opposes my pay."
C:"You're pay? No one opposes your pay as the President"
R:"Did I say pay I meant party.
C:"Well... Those all the questions we had
R: gets up, picks up an anti Neo-Con piece a G. New writer was writing, rips it up and walks out

Bjorksdattir oversees the dismantling of Socialist Party of Kalistan
New Social Justice Advocacy Network rises from ashes
Kaliburg Ananto
December 26, 4119
Premier of the Republic Louise Bjorksdattir, likely to be the last Socialist Premier of Kalistan
In a statement to IZQUIERDA, Premier Bjorksdattir made a far reaching, but not entirely unexpected annoucnement- The Socialist Party of Kalistan is leaving electoral Politics. The Ancient Party, whose history stretches more than 1500 years will become a non-Partisan advocacy network and think tank, operating fully outside of the Government.
In the Statement, Bjorksdattir formally announced the change, which many have believed was precipitated primarily by the failure of the experiment with one-Party Rule and the departure of the Labour Caucus from the SP's ranks. "It seems that the Party as a whole, has become disheartened by the inability to build a solidly leftist Government in Kalistan," said Political Scientist Lou Kohler, of Kaliburg Technical University. "Since the collapse of Left Kalistan, and indeed for a long time before that, the Socialist Party has adopted a very conservative, institutionalist attitude toward Kalistani Politics. This position has been disappointing to much of the SP's traditional voting bloc and has led them to seek solutions outside of the Socialist Party, most notably in centrist and center Left Parties like the Labour Party. The Premier's move then appears to be a fait accompli, and acknowledgement of the current state of Kalistani politics, rather than a major shift in them."
Bjorksdattir is also at odds with the secular nature of Kalistani Politics. Under her leadership, a new era of decorum has been ushered in, and it is now commonplace for Speakers to address one another directly, with civility, even in the face of distension. This is in stark variance from the era just prior to Single Party Rule, when Parties were regularly lobbing insults and ad hominems at one another. Whether the decorum of Kalistan under Bjorksdattir remains following the SP's departure remains to be seen. But this decorum is widely associated with Bjorksdattir's deep religious faith. Bjorksdattir, a devout member of the Society of Brethren in Kalistan, is herself reluctant to speak in public, and certainly unwilling to engage in deep debate with others, preferring short messages and avoiding the spotlight in most instances.
It has been confirmed that Bjorksdattir intends to emigrate to Lourenne to work with the Lourennese Brtherenist Party (PdFL). Others in Bjorksdattir's family are planning to follow her there, though it is unclear as to whether the sojourn will be permanent. It is believed, by sources close to the SP, that members of the Bennots family will join Bjorksdattir there within the next few years, though these reports are, at this time, unconfirmed.
The new advocacy network, already known as Society of Kalistani Socialists (SoKS) plans to retain all SP property. The Militia has been officially disbanded and all military property retained, with the members being offered enlistments and commissions in the Regular Forces at their militia ranks. The SoKS will retain IZQUIERDA as an official organ.
As the sun sets upon the Socialist Party of Kalistan, it rises upon a new coalition of center-Left wing Parties in Kalistan, ostensibly led by the Labour Party. The SoKS has promised to work with them to provide advice as requested.

Desperate For Power
Neoconservatives placing personal ambition over national interest, Labour says
Kaliburg, Ananto
January 9th, 4122
Prominent figures from across the Labour Party have been criticising the Neoconservative Party of Kalistan's actions this week, as the nation remains without a Premier following the resignation of Louise Bjorksdattir two years ago. Former Foreign Affairs Minister and Labour Deputy leader Tony Curti was one of several Labour Deputies who lambasted the Neocons in the National Assembly. In a discussion on the bill to bring back the much praised 'Presidential Prerogative' system of government, which for many years locked out extremist parties from the cabinet, Curti claimed that NPoK leader Randell Ross 'thought first of his paycheck and then of the citizens of his nation'. As well as attempting to block the 'Presidential Prerogative Act', Ross and his cohort also proposed a cabinet bill which would have handed them not only the Premiership but also the Ministry of Finance and Foreign Affairs, despite only holding 53 more seats than Labour- who would've been relegated to only Defence and Justice.
On top of bringing back Presidential Prerogative, Conti has pushed for a more efficient system for mayoral elections and an end to the current, elitist health care policy (through the Universal Healthcare Act). Clementine Espinoza, Labour's leader in the National Assembly has outlined her proposals if she is appointed to the Premiership and they include an innovative new plan to reform the District Government System. The clear focus on administrative and constitutional matters is not accidental, as Labour campaigned on a pledge to 'clean up the mess' that the Neoconservative President had left in his wake, when he attempted to appoint himself as 'Royal Monarch of Kalistan' for all time. However, it is likely they did not anticipate such obstruction by the aforementioned individual.

Justice Will Prevail
President Conti preparing to spearhead slave rescue missions to Saridan
Kaliburg, Ananto
November 20, 4122
Sophia Conti, Kalistan's President, addressing the World Congress General Assembly
Kalistan's President Sophia Conti delivered an impassioned speech to the World Congress' General Assembly during which she pledged to bring repercussions against the government of the Ameliorate Republic of Saridan for its endorsement of slavery and of the slave trade. More specifically she outlined how Kalistan would send a fleet of ships to the coast of Saridan for the purpose of taking those subject to slavery back to Kalistan but the Saridanese government, it has been rumoured, is not impressed by the President's plan and intends to prevent any ships from docking in their ports. In response, President Conti is believed to be contacting Kalistan's allies across Terra, like Istalia, Trigunia and Hawu Mumenhes, to build a coalition of naval forces in an attempt to accompany the Kalistani ships.
Additionally, Conti has proposed placing a complete embargo upon all imports and exports to try and force the 'Council of Elders' to introduce anti-slavery legislation. Given Kalistan's reputation as a nation which is pro-free trade and as one of Terra's most crucial exporters of petroleum, these sanctions alone could cripple the Saridanese economy. In the past, Kalistan has always been known for its policy of not interfering in international conflicts, except those which it has no choice but to, although under Conti that seems to be changing. During discussion of the 'Embargo On Saridan' bill she stated:
Quote:The era of inaction is over. No longer will Kalistan be content to sit idly by as those across Terra suffer, starve, weep and die, we have always believed that as beings we are bound to protect and care for one another yet we seem to have convinced ourselves that it only applies to those within our borders. As long as Kalistan was prospering, it did not matter that a child in Utembo could not attend school or that a mother in Midway was unable to feed her newborn. Not anymore. It is the moral duty of Kalistan to defend the weak across Terra however that is possible. Shame on those who argue otherwise. If we neglect this duty, by voting against this bill for example, then we are letting Terra down. That, in my view, is shameful.
Finally, let us send a message to Saridan, to Deltaria and to any nation which would seek to undercut the human rights of its citizens through slavery or through any other means: the tide of history is against you. You cannot win. As long as there are principled, righteous and honourable leaders in this world, your domain will continue to shrink until you are defeated and trust me, you will be defeated!
The President will now hope that other powers across Terra share her commitment to justice and virtue.
