Volkspartei Reforms - Prepares for Government

The Volkspartei, for a long time now nothing more than a Party to make up the numbers in the Volkskammer, has come back to life. With several new Bills being put forward by the VP and an attempt to form a coalition with the SED, the Party has clearly shown its intentions - to return to power. The source of this new lease of life for the Party? Dieter Tessel. For many the name Tessel will be recognisable and easily associated with the Volkspartei - Mariah Tessel served as the party's leader and first Chancellor by in 3129. Mr Tessel is indeed related to this legend among VP supporters, her eldest child, and a man who has made it quite clear that he wishes to return the Volkspartei to power.

Tessel has also revolutionised the party's policy platform, returning the party back to it's Social Liberal beginnings, seeking to Liberalise the Economy and the everyday life of the people of Dorvik.

"We must change if we wish to lead. This party has stagnated and lost all that it stands for and believes in. It is my duty to return this party to its roots and, eventually, to power. We must stand up for the people of Dorvik as only the Volkspartei can. We will do what we can to help those who need our help, and that is all we ask - the power to do so"

The 51 year old Tessel hopes to follow in his mother's footsteps and become the Chancellor, but also to complete the work that she never managed to in her time in office. If the people of Dorvik will grant him permission to do so is a question which will be answered in the next few years.

Demokratische Partei formed!
In January 3167, In the Mothar region of Dorvik, the Demokratische Partei, or Demokraten, was formed by Sebastien Mueller, a man who has made it clear his intention to become a major player in Dorvan politics.

In an interview last month Mr Mueller said:

    All too often the liberty and rights of the people of Dorvik are being carelessly abused by the ruling parties. We in the Demokratische Partei, believe that it is not the duty of the people to serve their government, rather it is the duty of the government to serve their people. Therefore, we will fight strenuously in order to ensure greater freedom for the Dorvish people and oppose any bills which would seek to take this freedom away.



With a number of bills already proposed and the visibilty of the Demokratische Partei on the up, who knows what the future holds for the Demokraten.

Election Day Arrives - Volkspartei Confident.

As election day comes finally arrives, the Volkspartei seems to hold an air of quiet confidence around them. This strikes quite a difference from the campaign of Pieter Vanhanen, the last election campaign which the Volkspartei fought with the belief they could form the Government, but of course the VP is right to feel anxious about appearing too cocky after the disastrous results of that election campaign.

Party leader Dieter Tessel has made several appearances throughout the day, the first of which being outside his polling station as he went to cast his vote. Reporters attempted to get a rise out of him concerning the Volkspartei's possible results, however he managed to brush most of these attempts off and refused to answer any such question, smiling instead. Even on the popular Breakfast Television Show, Good Morning Dorvik, he laughed instead of answering any questions involving the possible success or failure of his Party - however this didn't stop him from giving the two ruling parties a good slagging off.

How well the Volkspartei and their allies will do is still in question, but we will receive the answer tonight as the results become clear. Then we will see if the people of Dorvik have chosen a new direction for our country.

National Conservative Party Founded.

Haldor, Dorvik - As the new headquarters of the National Conservative Party of Dorvik opened to reporters the cheerful Chairman of the Party, Jacob Storek greeted members of the party and reporters alike. The National Conservative Party was founded by less radical members of the Dorvik National Fascist Workers Party after it's disbanding only months ago. Chairman Storek was the unofficial leader of the less radical members of the party, he stated that it was sad that the party disbanded but he was proud to see that parts of the ideology of National Fascism would live on through National Conservatism which is a rather new ideology within Dorvik. Chairman Storek has already been recognized as a staunch Dorvik Nationalist. The National Conservative Party hopes to gain seats in the Volkskammer this coming election, however it remains to be seen what they will do.

National Conservative Party Hosts Dorvik Unity Parade

Haldor, Dorvik - Thousands of supporters of the National Conservative Party of Dorvik have come to the streets to support their political party and their nation in what Chairman Storek of the NCPD is calling the Dorvik Unity Parade, a day to commemorate those who have died in service to the nation either militarily or in civil service. Chairman Storek spoke at the rally and gave words of encouragement to the entire nation as the event was televised by dozens of local, regional and national news media outlets.

    Chairman Storek:
    "People of Dorvik, we stand here today to bow our heads in respect for those who have died serving this nation. It does not matter in what capacity you serve this nation as long as you serve this nation to your fullest. Ask not what Dorvik can do for you, but what you can do for Dorvik. Everyday I wake up and I am blessed to live in this country, this nation was founded by men and women of character, men and women who have asked us to carry on their legacy and we will do that, we must do that to ensure the continuation of Dorvish dominance. Dorvik is my home, and I love it. God Bless Dorvik!"


Chairman Storek then pushed into the crowd of supporters and shook hands as well and answered questions in a Q&A forum later that night at an evening social where Storek was raising funds for the party. A noticeable difference with Storek's campaign for Chancellor is that he has yet to secure any large donations from major corporations. This move may be political or because he has been known to have a problem with the corporate influence in the nation.

Renault will not Run Again

Chancellor Renault announces his intention to step aside following the next election

In an announcement that has surprised many commentators, members of the public and even party members, Kanzler Gerhald Renault has announced he does not intend to fight the upcoming election for a third term. During his speech, Mr Renault stated;

    I have lead this great, great nation for 6 years, during which time I have overseen a period of great stability, but also a period of much reform. It is time for me to step aside, to allow a new breed of Volkspartei activists to take to leadership. These have been, without a doubt, some of the finest years of my life. I shall not forget them, but they are over, and I have no right to continue to live them when others deserve the chance. I announce my resignation as leader today, and I hope the Volkspartei can reach a consensus on my successor soon



Already, there are talks among the party as to who the new leader could be. Finance Minister Mikhael Petrov seems like the natural successor, however other party heavy-weights such as Defence Minister Freida Kalb and Health Minister Tielo Lang also have their eyes on the top job. We shall have to wait to see who will succeed Mr Renault as the Party Leader and - if their success continues - Chancellor.

Volkspartei Leadership Campaign Heats Up - Exclusive Look at the Candidates

When Chancellor Renault announced his intention to step aside to allow somebody else to fight the next election, it was expected Mikhael Petrov, current Finance Minister and Deputy Leader, would come out in front. However, Defence Minister Freida Kalb has had a much greater impact on the campaign than originally expected. During an emergency party conference in Birdon, Kardusia last night, candidates with enough nominations from fellow party members were all invited to launch their campaigns with a speech. In order of appearance, these are the candidates;

Ms Kalb has always been viewed as the iron lady of the Volkspartei, quick witted, straight to the point and able to defeat anybody in a political debate. Already some polling among VP members shows her ahead of Mr Petrov, something that should certainly worry him as she has nowhere to go but up.

    Gerhald Renault has led our party well to two victories already, however it is time not to relax on this accomplishment, but to prepare to better it. We need strong leadership, strong morals and strong beliefs. We need a leader who can lead us to three victories, four victories, without tiring, without losing momentum. I am that candidate, I am ready for that responsibility. I am ready to be this party's next Chancellor.



Mikhael Petrov - Finance Minister/ Deputy Leader

Finance Minister Petrov was elected Deputy Leader at the exact same time as Renault was elected Leader. It was always accepted from that moment forward that when Renault eventually stepped down, Petrov would be his successor. However, now apparently trailing behind Freida Kalb, Petrov will have to work incredibly hard now to take back the lead and secure the Leadership he has sought for so long.

    I have the experience that other candidates standing in this race can only dream of. We need a leader who has experience in economics, in the running of our economy, especially as we seek to continue with our program of deregulation and greater free enterprise. I am the only candidate here today who can provide that. With the greatest respect to my fellow candidates, they are experienced and capable in their own departments, however I do not believe they are ready to be Leader or, indeed, Chancellor



Tielo Lang - Health and Social Services Minister

By far the youngest candidate in this race, at only 37 years old, Lang hopes that his youth will not count against him. Supported by many younger MPs and particularly by the Youth Wing of the party, he hopes he can gather enough support from among the party faithful to seize the reins of power and take the party off in a new, fresh direction.

    I have often been asked; "Tielo, surely now isn't the time to stand for Leader? Surely you should wait a few years?" I am astounded by this belief! I stand because I believe that the ideas that I have are needed in our party now. Chancellor Renault has done a wonderful job, but I must agree with his decision to stand down. He could only take us so far, and so can the other members standing in this campaign who share his view of Dorvik. We need a new, fresh approach for the new Dorvik. I can bring that approach. I can be the leader this party needs to keep the support of all Dorvish people.



Markus Funda - Back Bencher

Markus Funda is something of a wild card in this campaign. He is not currently a minister, and neither has he ever been. However, he has, for a long time, been the leader of the Volkspartei's left. He believes that as new right wing parties have appeared, it is time for the VP to move truly from the centre to the centre-left, to be the moderate left wing alternative that Dorvik just doesn't have.

    For a long time I have said that the centre is nothing but a place for those scared to take a chance sit. The Volkspartei has sat here for years, and due to this we can only do so much. We need a new approach, we need a new direction. We need to move this party left, we need to take the ground that is currently unfilled - a moderate left wing party for the moderate left wing voter. This is the position I believe we must fill. Not Social-Liberalism but Social-Democracy. That is the direction I will take us if you grant me the privilege of leading our great party



After all the speeches were done, the campaign officially began, and already a poll has been conducted of many Volkspartei members. It gave the following result;

Freida Kalb - 37%
Mikhael Petrov - 33%
Tielo lang - 20%
Markus Funda - 6%
Undecided - 4%

Clearly Freida Kalb has gotten off to a flying start, but with the Leadership vote still months away, all this could change radically by the time the result is announced here in Birdon.

Kalb elected Leader, Lang appointed Deputy

In an astonishing result, Freida Kalb has been elected the leader of the Volkspartei and thus the candidate for Chancellor for the next election. No restructuring of the Cabinet will occur during the current term, and Gerhald Renault will remain Chancellor until after the next election and a new government has been formed. The actual results of the Leadership election were;

First Preference
Freida Kalb - 45%
Tielo lang - 28%
Mikhael Petrov - 20%
Markus Funda - 7%

Two Candidate Preferred
Freida Kalb - 62%
Tielo Lang - 38%

Mikhael Petrov, current Finance Minister, was expected to easily win this election when the announcement of Mr Renault's resignation came through. However, Kalb managed to jump ahead in the polls from the go, and this - mixed with Mr Petrov's failing health and the surprising popularity of the young Tielo lang - brought about this result. Immediately following her win, Ms Kalb announced that she would be requesting that Mr Lang take the position of Deputy Leader, and we are lead to believe he has accepted.

On another note, during his concession speech, Finance Minister Petrov announced that - due to health reasons - he would now be following Chancellor Renault by resigning as Finance spokesperson for the Volkspartei - and thus Finance Minister following the election. He stated that had he won the leadership, it would have given him a reason to continue to fight his ill health and work at the same time, but that he now felt it necessary to step out of politics.

Ms Kalb now has the responsibility of leading the Volkspartei into what may be a very interesting and dangerous election for the party. With the reappearance of the KPD and the founding of a new right-wing party, the Volkspartei may feel a squeeze on it's support. It is up to their new leader to keep the drain to a minimum, and lead her party to a third election victory.

Communist Party of Dorvik and Socialist Unity Party of Dorvik cement alliance behind closed doors.

Vinisk, Dorvan - Behind closed doors members of the Communist Party of Dorvik's Central Committee met with the party leadership of the Socialist Unity Party of Dorvik and cemented a united left coalition group that would seek to dominate the government within the coming years. Chairman of the Central Committee Hans Gehrig was quoted as stating that: "This coalition is a victory for the worker, a victory for those who have put their bodies upon the gears that keep this nation churning." In other news, President Kovachev has stated that he plans on making state visits to several nations however he is not sure when and where they will be planned, however speculation is coming that it will be neighboring nations in Artania.

"We must be the voice of Moderation" says Kalb

Volkspartei Freida Kalb has announced, as an election looms near, that the Volkspartei must put itself forward to the people as the party of Moderation, of common sense and stability. With so many extremist parties in the Volkskammer, she said, it was the duty of the VP to stand up for the rights of the everyday Dorvikian who want nothing more than a working Government. With their main competitor for this role now gone from Dorvish politics, Kalb is confident that the Volkspartei may return to the position they held before. Only time will tell, and Volkspartei members know better than to feel too confident about anything.
