I'm not sure if this is the spot for this but can we receive some clarification on inactive nations:

I've previously operated and owned several foreign bases in countries, including some naval ports, when that nation goes empty/inactive/whatever status outside of "active" or "filled" can I continue to interact with those bases as if nothing happened, etc?

Hey man - actually it's the perfect place for these kind of things.

Re: bases in empty countries

Generally the status quo we had before is still in effect in the current game rules on https://forum.prtcy.com/thread-318-post-...ml#pid4723 but with some extra flexibility considering the current state of the limbo we're in between classic and legacy.

Quote:Generally: We allow that the status-quo prior to inactivity can be maintained and is accessible to RP.
Other way to put it simply: "Never expand involvement with inactive nations but you can end it."
E.g If the status quo is free-trade / your companies can do stuff there. Large-Scale Interactions would require a case-by-case decision from the mods. You can always pull out of an empty nation without hindrance.

Privileges in foreign nations formerly controlled by a player which are now empty cannot be expanded without the consent of a new player.

You can absolutely use them in non-impactful ways; but you cannot expand upon them - again in a major impactful way.

i.e. a little bit of patrols, refuelling, a couple of extra vessels, that sort of thing. On major involvement and impact, it's best to seek consent from mods first (i.e. say you have a base in Istalia and want to use it in a major way to engage with armed conflict RP with players from South Seleya).

Need some help from the financial guys on how to make good financial RP, I would wish to increase Luthori's financial institutions' influence over the financial world, but I don't know how to procede.

@Greek, shipping RP advice would also be appreciated

On this, I would say to increase your leverage, in the world's financial institutions, you have to increase your stake in those institutions.  But I would say don't go at it with the mindset of you increasing Luthori's influence over those institutions.  Because that turns everyone into protectionists with regard to Luthorian intentions.  You kind of tip your hand.

I would say this lot are leery of people trying to take their stuff over from outside.  For good reason.  And why would your rivals help you do that by letting you in?

Yeah, I get that. But I wanted to be quite direct OOCly, because last time I went secretive, it didn't end well.

I'll echo Doc on the banking part. I've always felt that Luthori's moves were not very inviting and felt more like a one-way street. When a financial institution increases its stake over markets, it's about the markets, not the institution.

And I know you're gonna hate me for saying this, but what you're looking to achieve is 99% through OOC and 1% through IC.

Basically it's not about you - you have to prop up the other player and what the other player wants to achieve. And you also have to be upfront with them if you have secondary motives. With Gaduridos, for example, I was very clear with Weimarska what I was looking to achieve, but still the focus remained on Weim and what she wanted to do in Gaduridos, not my investments (Vamaj in that case).

(and also on the Gaduri case I was aware that Doc was RPing Ananto's regional influence so I kept that in mind in context cause it's the sportsman thing to do - same deal with imp and the HC vs Vamaj battle)

i.e.

Aethan wants to do infra RP in Valruzia

=>

@Aethan, I want to invest in your country because my banks are the biggest in Terra right now.

vs

@Aethan, I'd love to join your RP by offering some financial aid? I'm trying to increase my financial foothold on Seleyan markets. But i don't want to mix up Valruzia in Luthori's geopol games vs Kalistan, so it's just a clean no strings attached investment.

=>

Unbelievably Massive Luthorian Financial Institution invests Shitload of Money in Valruzia (focus is on YOU)
vs
Valruzian infrastructure aided by additional private sector investments (focus in on THEM)

On shipping, basically the same thing. I was having fun with maritime trade RP so I just approached players and asked whether they wanted their goods exported to Beiteynu and other places (i.e. Wu's condoms in Cildania).

Did not ask docking rights or harbour rights or whatever (Svet basically giving me Valruzia on a platter was 100% her ahah).

I just RPed shipping and trade player after player and after a few months I realised I had done shipping RP with dozens and dozens of countries from everywhere and it felt like shipping had become a big thing for Beiteynu.

So I RPed the effects of a massive shipping industry (i.e. corruption, ego, obscene wealth) instead of flatly RPing shipping was massive.

tl;dr of financial RP advice:

it's not about numbers or financial knowledge.

it's about helping other players achieve their goals.

I'm going to add a couple of details that I think will help you achieve what you're going for.

To begin, you need to toss away your current conceptions of how growth, in this game, works. It's easy for us to think that we "grow" and expand our economies just because we RP or say so. Well, it's not as simple as that.

PT is a game of optics and narratives. That has been my playstyle for over 5 years and holds true to this day. What I mean by that is the success you're going to find in this game is by the image and the story you try to paint with others. I can easily go to my thread right now and say that I am a thriving global superpower. Nobody will believe that. Why? Because I haven't given the community enough of a picture to support that claim. How does one make that claim become a reality? Well you have to focus on three specific things:

1. Work with others.
Regardless of the IC state of Terra, we in the OOC community will always be open to cooperation. The more cooperation you have players the more opportunities this is going to open up. Not just within financial RP, but every category in general. If you help other players achieve their goals, they will help you achieve yours through direct or indirect ways.

If I claim to help South Dovani for example, they will benefit from my RP, but I can also say my standing and cooperation helped myself as well..

2. Create a Narrative.
You are trying to paint the story of Luthori becoming this influential financial place--but just from what I know that is not the case. You CANNOT convey this with 1 or 2 posts. You have to make this a storyline. It has to be something you focus about for a long period of time. sometimes it takes week, sometimes it takes months, but again PT is played through optics, not by forcing a narrative on someone. It takes time to create a vision for your nation. I would start small by focusing your posts on the objective of your financial institutions. Always mention any moment of cooperation you've had with others and use that to create a legitimacy for your narrative.

3. It's OK to not know everything/Have Fun.
With creating narratives it is very easy to seem "obsessive" or seem like you're a failure (which is what I see happening here). I think above all you need to show people you're genuinely having fun with this and you haven't made this a task. You can have clear, healthy goals for your nation while also having fun. And listen: NOBOODY here is an expert. We've all got some basic knowledge about economics, some more than others, but that shouldn't stop you. The way you give yourself even more credibility is by showing you have an interest and excitement in your own writing. Remember the optics, if you keep saying Luthori is a failure, people will soon begin to actually believe that because you're not giving them evidence that proves them otherwise.

Have fun with it, explore your options, work with others, and create a good story.
