        ARMY REVOLT: Self declared "National Liberation Council" Seize
                                               Presidential Palace

DOKUZ: Reports from inside the Presidential Compound in downtown Dokuz indicate that the 

Army has captured the Presidential Palace and Chief of Staff's headquarters. The whereabouts

of the President, Marshall Yalman, are unknown. General Aksoy, head of the Junior Officers 

Corp, was earlier seen within the Press Corp of the Presidential Palace announcing that the

"National Liberation Council" had overthrown the Military Government.

Early in the morning, columns of tanks and vehicles had been spotted moving through the

suburbs of Dokuz from Military Bases on the outskirts of the city. Gunfire was heard from the

Presidential Palace around 5am Cakaniye Central Time. However, resistance to the capture

appears to have been minimal, with so far no casualties reported. Notably, representatives from

the Air Force and Navy, as well as other Army units station in the North and East, have so far

remained in their barracks, perhaps indicating widespread support for the Dokuz garrison.

In his statement, General Aksoy stated;

"We the National Liberation Council today announce the overthrow of the Junta of the dictator
and murderer. I repeat, Yalman's regime has been overthrown.
The National Liberation Council wishes for peace and understanding across Cakaniye and 
throughout Terra. We look to our fellow Caks to support us in the struggle to rebuild our nation
and pursue a new age of Liberty and Tolerance. 
The Council also wishes to reach out a hand to the international community for support to
rebuild our economy and to establish a new Democratic Government in line with
international laws and values.
Long like Cakaniye, long live the Caks."
Responses from the Opposition in Exile remain mixed, with many fearing a continuation of the
Military Government under a different name. The public has similarily remained cautious,

with reports of celebrations only from within neighbourhoods with historic opposition ties.

Key opposition leader Adas Sabri, who has lived in exile in Kalopia for over 20 years, posted
online;
"Yalman's era may be over. But the Army cannot wash its hands of their crimes through a

self-coup. Only with democratic elections and the support of the people can a government in
Cakaniye finally reconcile with its citizens."

National Liberation Council Establishes Constitutional Assembly: Elections Planned

Dokuz: After several months of internal negotiations, the Army and Opposition Leaders
within Cakaniye have proposed the creation of a Constitutional Assembly of Lawyers,
Civil Rights Activists, Philosophers and Religious Leaders who will begin the process
of establishing free elections. The National Liberation Council has contacted a number
of opposition figures that are still residing in exile, most notably Adras Sabri, to return
to the country to take part in the negotiations.
However, Sabri has taken a cautious and hard line with the NLC, accusing it of covering
up the crimes of the Military Junta, and of suppressing criticism of the Army. Sabri has
called on an independent body from the international community to oversea the
establishment of a new constitution, as well as investigate alleged atrocities committed
under the Yalman Regime.
News from the Assembly currently indicates the establishment of a Parliamentary Republic, 
with an emphasis on limiting the power of the executive, in an effort to avoid 
authoritarianism. However, there is also a strong minority for a Presidential system, fearing
potential anarchy and disintegration in the aftermath of the Yalman Regime, and
emphasising the need for a strong executive to rebuild the country. 
Most notably, General Aksoy, chief spokesman of the NLC, has been seen meeting with key
supporters of the Presidential Faction, indicating a shift in focus for the Council.
There is likely to be intense debating in the coming months regarding what the next steps
should be, and it is currently unknown which Faction, Presidential or Parliamentary, will
win the debate in the new Assembly.

Constitutional Assembly Proposes Elections Soon: Parties formed to contest for the country
as conflict rages in neighbouring Deltaria


Following months of negotiations between the appointed members of the Constitutional Assembly,
Cakaniye is beginning final preparations for an election. With the debate raging between constitutional
settlements, four major national political blocks have formed, each supporting either a strong 
President or Assembly Suppremacy.

The run up to the election has been in part overshadowed by the events in neighbouring Deltaria. 
The growing violence north of the border has led to some calls for electoral delays, but the National 
Liberation Council has emphasise the need for a constitutional mandate before action is taken to 
defend Cakaniye from potential insurgents from the North. The parties are divided on whether Deltaria
is a threat to national integrity, and whether Cakaniye should take a stronger position on the conflict
or remain neutral.

Parties to Vote For

The Renewal Party, Yenileme, is the main Presidential party, formed from the majority of the National
Liberation Council. They argue that the instability both internally and abroad means a strong centralised
state around an elected President is required to unify Cakaniye's society towards rebuilding the economy.
Although formed from democrats, it has attracted some members of the former regime, who wish to
return to favour following the collapse of the government they were once a part of. 

The Democratic Party, Cakan Demokrat Partisi, is in turn the main Assemblist party, formed from assembly
members and supporters of Adas Sabri. Advocating strong checks and balances and an Assembly unburdened
by Presidential veto, the Democrats believe that only through Assembly Supremacy can democracy be
maintained. Its supporters are mainly from the upper middle and lower classes, who fear a return to 
Military Dictatorship under a Presidential system. Unlike their left wing Assemblist allies the Labor Party,
The Democrats wish to actively support the rebels within Deltaria, and are pushing for Cakaniye to
mobilise.

The Alliance Party, Ittifak, is an ultra-conservative party accused by Yenileme of being the party of the Military
Junta. Although strongly Presidential, they are critical of the National Liberation Council and are accused
of advocating a return to military rule. They also support pardons for members of the old regime, including
Yalman himself. They support the current Deltarian government.

The Labor Party, Emek Partisi, is a left wing Assemblist group, supported by the Cakan Federation of Labor.
Their left wing politics makes them an outlier when compared to the other parties. Most of their senior leadership
were associated with the Unionist opposition to the Yalman regime. In the run up to the election there
have been several violent confrontations between Emek and Ittifak party loyalists, resulting in several arrests
by the National Guard. They are also unique in being openly hostile to intervention in Deltaria.

The Conflict's Impact on the Election

The conflict between the Deltarian government and rebel forces has hightened the intensity of the discussions
in Cakaniye around what if any role Cakaniye has. The rebel forces, attempting to overthrow what they
see as an oppressive government, have been seen favourably by both sides of the Cakan political divide. There
however remains some support for Deltaria's government, especially amongst the Presidential parties who
fear success for the rebels may spur on Assemblist forces at home.

However, the most pressing concern is the growing number of immigrants fleeing across the border. The NLC
has mobilised national guard units, (local militia organisations centralised on residential areas), to the border
to act as makeshift border guards. However the situation remains tense, with the hightened risk of violence
between Deltarian immigrants and northern villagers. There is also concern for Caks living in the border region
within Deltaria, with many having been long ostracised from Deltarian society and at risk of violence due to
the breakdown in the civil order.

Whichever side wins the election, the Deltarian conflict is bound to remain the most important political issue
in the year to come.

BREAKING NEWS: Yenileme Recieves Most Votes to become Largest Party, 
Presidentialists Win Election

The results from the first election of the new Republic of Cakaniye are in:

Yenileme: 61 seats, 41%
Cakan Demokrat Partisi: 53 seats, 35%
Ittifak: 23 seats, 15%
Emek Partisi: 13 seats, 9%

The Presidentialist Block of Yenileme and Ittifak have won a majority, all but confirming a 
Presidential Constitution with substantial powers for the President. However, the scale of
the turn out for the Democratic Party means that it will be a hard thought negotiation.

It is also clear from the results that there is public support for the rebels in neighbouring
Deltaria, with the isolationist Labor Party and pro-government Ittifak struggling in the
polls. This may lead to future foreign policy changes once a goverment has been established
in the coming months. The Democratic Party's leader Sabri celebrated this in his concession
speech earlier, saying that the war in Deltaria was as important as elections at home, and 
emphasising the need for Jakanian involvement to support the rebellion.

Refugees Taken in by Northern Cakans, Al-Qalb to Help Reduce Illegal Crossings


The government of Kafuristan has deployed Border Guards to the northern border, as the 
number of refugees fleeing the conflict sours. In the first foreign negotiation since the 
new government has formed, the National Liberation Council emphasised the importance
of cooperation between the nations of Majatra to reduce illegal numbers and thanked
Al-Qalb for their support.

The National Guard has so far struggled to defend the long length of the Deltarian Border,
which has seen the growth in smuggling gangs as people spend their lifes savings to risk
crossing the Northern Desert. Commander of the National Guard, General Kemal, has
called for drastic action to reduce crossings, while also emphasising the need for legal
routes, especially for Deltarians of Cakan descent.
