Close elections keep liberals in the lead
Centre-right coalition to form
April 5688 (backdated)
Randworth - Extremely tight elections have caused the liberal Forward Mordusia to remain closely in the lead and 'win' the elections so to say with a narrow plurality. However a surprising quick announcement was made about a coalition as the liberals will form a majority coalition government with the conservative Nationals who had a mild election victory.
For 5 years the Forward Mordusia liberals ruled as the first non-traditional largest party in the coalition and in the parliament. They kept their coalition together through some great successes and tough challanges. Certaintly with an ever unstable world, as it often is, the voters seem to have stuck with them. However they still lost 15 seats, ending on 104 seats. It shows that some have gone back to their traditional parties.
A shock for everyone was that the largest party status could have gone to the Reform-Labor Coalition if they still ran together. The traditional opponent of the conservative nationals are the social-democrats (Labor) and the social-liberals (Reform). The Labor Party managed to win 10 seats increasing their seat count to 64 seats with Reform growing from 40 to 46 seats. Together they would have had 110 seats and been the largest party in the parliament. However thanks to their split in 5683 they are now ranked 3rd and 4th behind Forward Mordusia (1st with 104 seats) and the Nationals (2nd with 103 seats).
The Nationals were hoping to win these elections, they have been the leaders of the opposition and made good use of some coalition disagreements to get their way. They came very close to winning these elections, with them winning 1 seat less than Forward Mordusia. In the exitpolls they were at first tied.

Close elections again! Liberals lose
Return of the mainstream?
April 5693
Randworth - The verdict of the voter is clear, we're going back to the Nationals and the Reform-Labor Coalition as the liberals of Forward Mordusia got decimated in these elections. Its clear, no politics in the centre anymore for the Mordusian electorate. Its been announced that Forward Mordusia will support the winner of the elections, the Nationals in forming a government by giving support and supply confidence, they will not deliver ministers this round. The leader of the Nationals, Henry Humperdinck will be the next Prime-Minister of Mordusia. His counter-part of the Reform-Labor Coalition, Ariana Swan, will become the Leader of His Majesty's Most Loyal Opposition.
The last five years saw a hung parliament with three big factions dominating the political scene. Increasingly the intense debates began to erupt between the old rivals, the conservative Nationals and the centre-left Reform and Labor parties. In this battle it seems strategic voting and the media attention plus combined with experiences campaigning has caused the mainstream parties to regain their traditional position in these elections.
But these five years were reformative for the main political parties. The Nationals had recovered in opposition the five years prior and could showcase their experience and new leadership during the last five years in their role and a junior party in the coalition. With 5691 marking the re-unification of the Reform and Labor parties in their coalition, brought a stable and strong but also united voice of the left in the opposition. The Reform Party conceded to new rules for leadership, formarly dominated by them but now open to discussion regardless of size of the parties. Labor on the otherhand didnt mind keep the old name of the Reform-Labor, they however did in return get their new leader as the coalition leader, which has brought them great success.
The new National government will focus on strengthening the economy to finally resolve some issues related to mining, encouraging international trade and strengthening the roads. The Nationals also want to codify and strengthen the ties between Mordusia and Luthori but also between both Crowns. The Nationals have also stated that Seleyan affairs will also take more of a focus of Mordusia, wishing to cooperate and trade more with nations such as Saridan and the Anantonese Empire for a secure, better educated and prosperous Seleya.

New state added to Commonwealth!
Outback becomes Mordusia's 6th state
May 5693
Randworth - Long has Mordusia (and oddly a lot of nations in the world) had 5 states within its borders. To make more would have been an administrative nightmare and added to regional chaos, at least that was the original thought. However, a state-commission on the subject at the request of state of Rimly has been looking at the borders and the size of the states within the Commonwealth, now we welcome the sixth state to the Commonwealth: Outback.
As said Mordusia knew five states: Coliwick in the north, Rimly with the capital Randworth in the middle and Telodge, New Orange and Voisain in the south. Of these states Rimly was by far the largest and the most populated. For a long time, it held an autonomous province with itself called Outback. It’s the more rugged terrain, more mountainous, sparsely populated and with their entirely own local cultural identity. It also holds the most Ikpi people communities.
Long have the people of this province, also called Outback, complained to both the state, the courts and the Commonwealth that they do not feel that the majority population outside of the Outback in Rimly represent them or understand their needs. That is why a state commission was formed, as the government of Rimly and the Lieutenant-Governor Sarah Williams agreed that something had to be done, the government in Rimly itself felt that the state was too large to govern.
The outcome is that the new state is formed. Next year new elections will be held, until such time the provincial government will take over as the State Parliament and the State Government. The Governor-General Louis Ferdinand of Orange-Villayn-Coliwick, Duke of Coliwick and Count of Rechtenburg has appointed his second son Lord Richard of Orange-Villayn-Coliwick as temporary Lieutenant-Governor of the province. Lord Richard has been helping his elder brother in the Orange-Villayn Foundation in Mordusia, spearheading the charitable work of preserving local communities, nature preservation. His foremost attention went to the unique nature, history and culture within Outback. The appointment is thought to have been made to show that the noble branch family of the ruling Orange-Villayn Imperial Family supports the new state and highlights its importance despite it being young.
The new capital of the state will be Williamsburg, in which the new state parliament and governmental buildings are being constructed. In the mean time the usual place of the provincial house will be used by the state government. The Commonwealth has stated that they will aid in the financing and day to day operations of the state untill it is fully functioning on its own.

Governor-General reacts to death of his cousin, the Queen of Hutori
The Duke mourns his cousin and Mordusia joins him
May 5693
Rechtenburg - A few hours ago, Governor-General Louis Ferdinand of Orange-Villayn-Coliwick addressed the nation in speech about the shocking news of the death of the Queen of Hutori, Her Majesty Queen Arianna. In a highly emotional speech, the Duke of Coliwick expressed his profound sadness in name of His Imperial & Royal Majesty, Richard II, King of Mordusia & Emperor of Luthori, but also his personal sadness and that of his family for the loss of his cousin.
According to Hutorian media sources Queen Adrianna died at the age of 62 after suffering a catastrophic medical emergency at the Royal Residence. With her death her 14 year old grandson Prince James ascends the throne as King William XVII. The King will also assume the title of Prince of Mordusia. As per law the ruling monarch of Hutori from the line of Steuart-Carmichaels are granted the title Prince of Mordusia, to signify their history and relation to the Crown of the Commonwealtth. King William XVII will be helped in ruling as the new Sovereign of Hutori by a regency until his minority is over.
As many know the Orange-Villayn dynasty with the two surviving houses – Steuart-Carmichael and Orange-Villayn-Armstead – are deeply connected to the Commonwealth as both houses have reigned or are decedents of those who reigned the nation from its colonising period to this day. The noble family of Orange-Villayn-Coliwick, from which the Duke, our Governor-General, is a member of, is a cadet branch of the Orange-Villayn-Armstead house. However, it is also closely linked to the Hutorian family. Louis Ferdinand’s mother is Princess Charlotte of Hutori, aunt to the late Queen of Hutori. This shattering loss therefor hits double home to the highly involved noble family of His Grace.
The Governor-General spoke that the ties between Hutori and Mordusia are ever strong, through mutual participation in the Commonwealth of Luthorian-Nations, historic friends, allies and having deep cultural ties. After that the Governor-General took the time to speak his own mind on the situation: ‘’I wish to add a few words of my own, not in name of my Sovereign the King & Emperor, but as a family member. As Hutori mourns their Sovereign, so I mourn my cousin who I loved and admired dearly. When she ascended the throne, Her Majesty was supported by my mother, Princess Charlotte. Now to see her off far before her time is hard for me and my family. I will duly depart for Hutori to support my family’’.
Duke Louis Ferdinand is not only a Duke of Coliwick and Count of Rechtenburg in Mordusia, but also Duke of Aylebury in Hutori. He is known to spend a lot of his vacation time in Hutori and has a close relationship with his Hutorian cousins and extended family. His son Richard was educated in Hutori. Orange Palace in Rechtenburg has announced that the Duke and Governor-General will attend the funeral with his son, daughter and wife in his personal name but also in name of Mordusia. He has send word of this to Fort William in Luthori.

Luthori & Mordusia to discuss forming a more formal relationship
Ever closer union?
November 5695
Randworth - A lucky break in a string of bad news gives the government a break with some good news: the foreign minister of the Luthorian Empire, Mr. Gordon Learmouth is visiting the Commonwealth. It has been reported by the Luthorian Foreign Office that the Foreign Secretary will discuss with our Foreign Minister David Scotsville the current ties between the nation on diplomatic and military front and to enhance said relations significantly. As well as discuss a more formalised relationship in this otherwise informal union.
It Is no secret that the Commonwealth of Mordusia already heavily relies on the Empire for its defence, especially on the naval area of defence. The Commonwealth has in the last decades increased its fleet from being next to non-existant to a small fleet. But this is hardly enough to defend its interests in the region should a bad faith actor or a foreign threat arise. On the economic front, the recent oil shock has shown that good relations with Luthori, a stronger and more connected economic power is thé way to keep Mordusia economically safe. In this sense using the ancient connection of Mordusia in a more dangerous world, filled with other unions doesn’t seem such a bad idea. However, the current government hasn’t spoken up about their concret stance on the matter, only saying that it is very interested in seeing the proposals and looking forward to the meeting, as the Foreign Minister said.
This is no surprise seeing that the visit can book be seen as coming at the right time, giving the government as we said a lucky break from its string of problems to solve and to focus on the pleasant celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Emperor-King’s ascension to the thrones of both Luthori and Mordusia. His Imperial Majesty Richard II’s dedication to both nations will be celebrated and the government has stated that they want to make sure the celebrations have a unique touch, showcasing Mordusia’s unique culture whilst also showcasing the steadfast and strong but also ancient relationship with Luthori and the Orange-Villayn dynasty.
This however leads us to the unfortunate part of the visit. The National-led government had hoped to throw everything into the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the ascension of Emperor Richard II as Emperor of Luthori and King Mordusia, including a military parade and various local civilian celebrations across the country. However, during the preparation for such a military parade several things went horribly wrong. Whilst transporting tanks several roads and bridges were horribly damaged by the transport, necessitating their replacement and a broad investment into upgrading the road system to be able to transport military hardware. According to sources from within the government the cabinet is quite embarrassed that the roads who should have been built to transport military hardware were apparently not made right and failed to actually perform. The embarrassment is worse for the government because the National Party has always wanted to strengthen the nation and be a more reliable regional partner for the Empire instead of being a burden that leans on them for everything. On top of fiscal problems and leftover problems from previous governments the National Party-led government seems more focused on damage control than in control of the agenda.
Though, with this visit that might chance? It is hard to say. What we can say is that its seen in the polls that Mordusians are very appriciative of the attention of the Luthorians and that the monarchy remains popular. Various states have announced that they are on-top of the federal plans for celebrations also organising their local celebrations. Each state will focus on its own history with the monarchy and the unique flavour of their state's culture and traditions. The state of New Orange will for instance showcase its historic ties through its name and hosting the official seat of the monarch in Mordusia in Rechtenburg, whilst Outback and Coliwick will focus on the monarch's involvement in nature preservation and showcasing the biodiversity of Mordusia. The states have said they will work together with the federal government to make sure that the celebrations all allign in timing and coordination.

Deregulation of industry announced
Stronger economy or destroying the ecosystem?
November 5696
Randworth - To strengthen the economy, the National-led government of Prime Minister Henry Humperdinck has proposed a sweeping package of bills aimed at deregulating multiple sectors and significantly reducing the regulatory burden on industry, with a particular focus on resource extraction and heavy manufacturing. The government argues that the reforms are necessary to boost investment, improve international competitiveness, and unlock economic growth that has been constrained by what it describes as “excessive and outdated regulation.”
In response to the proposed federal changes, several states have already moved to align their policies with the government’s economic agenda. The states of Outback, New Orange, and Trelodge have officially announced that they will issue additional mining licences in the coming months, opening up new areas for mineral and resource exploration. Meanwhile, Voisain, Trelodge, and Rimly have confirmed plans to relax planning and zoning rules, allowing for the construction of more factories, processing plants, and other industrial facilities.
The announcements have been welcomed by business groups and industry representatives, who see the developments as a clear sign that the Humperdinck government is delivering on its promise of economic reform. Mining and manufacturing associations have praised the measures as a “long-overdue correction,” predicting increased employment, higher export revenues, and renewed confidence among domestic and foreign investors. Government figures have pointed to early signals of interest from multinational firms as evidence that the reforms are already having an impact.
However, the deregulation drive has sparked concern among environmental organisations and conservation groups. Several have warned that the rapid expansion of mining and industrial activity could lead to long-term environmental damage, particularly in ecologically sensitive regions. Critics argue that the rollback of safeguards risks undermining biodiversity, water quality, and land rehabilitation efforts that took decades to establish.
While many political moderates agree that the previous regulatory framework placed an unnecessarily heavy burden on companies—a legacy often attributed to the former coalition involving the Wildlife Party—they have expressed unease at the speed and scale of the reforms. These voices stress that economic growth and environmental protection should not be treated as mutually exclusive, cautioning that insufficient oversight could provoke public backlash and future economic costs.
Environmental Minister Amanda Sharpe sought to strike a conciliatory tone, acknowledging both sides of the debate. In a statement to the press, the minister said that while the government remains committed to economic development and job creation, it also recognises its responsibility to protect the environment. “Deregulation does not mean deregulation without limits,” the minister said. “We will continue to enforce core environmental standards and ensure that development is carried out responsibly.”

Emperor Richard II to attend Jubilee in Mordusia
A historic visit for the Commonwealth!
December 5696
Randworth - His Imperial Majesty the Emperor will visit come over to visit the Commonwealth of Mordusia between the 22nd of March and the 31st of March 5697. The visit of the Emperor will be due to His Majesty's Diamond Jubilee as Emperor of Luthori and King of Mordusia. The visit and the Diamon Jubilee will celebrate the Monarch's ascension to the Luthorian Imperial Throne and the Mordusian Throne 69 years ago and his continued reign over both nations.
Apparently His Imperial Majesty will come and visit the Commonwealth alone, without a minister of the Crown and without his wife, the Empress. Her Imperial Majesty the Empress and Queen, Valeria, cannot attend the celebrations in Randworth with her husband because of grave and serious health concerns grom her doctors. Governor-General Louis-Federdinand of Orange-Villayn has said that he will guarentee that his majesty will have the ability to stay in contact with his wife through a secure line ''whenever His Majesty so desires it''.
The visit to our Commonwealth is going to be a grand spectacle as Luthorian and Mordusian military forces will parade through Randworth in the presence of His Majesty. His Majesty will also visit the Federal Parliament, His government and his Prime-Minister in Mordusia. His Imperial Majesty will then after a few days in Randworth be transported to the Royal residence in Rechtenburg in the state of New Orange to visit the Royal Palace and unveil a statue of him and his wife in the large gardens on the estate, filled with past great monarchs of the nation.
In a speech to the Parliament the Prime-Minister stated that he was overjoyed with the happy occasion and great honour of the visit of His Imperial Majesty. ''Our sovereign is old and his health isnt wat it used to be. But despite that His Majesty decided to visit our Commonwealth, a nation dear to his heart, half a world away. Lets make His Imperial Majesty right at home in Mordusia!'' as was said by the Prime-Minister Henry Humperdinck.
Some have voiced concern over His Majesty's health, as the elderly monarch is visiting a country alone across the oceans, it is clear someone could happen. To prevent this the Commonwealth government has asured everyone that it will make sure the accomodations for the Emperor are made so that he had plenty of rest in his busy schedule and that doctors and medical personal are ready to aid him should that become neccessary.

Emperor Richard II Concludes Diamond Jubilee Visit to Mordusia
God save the King!
5697
Randworth - Eight days ago, His Imperial Majesty Emperor Richard II, Emperor and King, Sovereign of Luthori and Mordusia, arrived in Randworth to begin a nine-day state visit in celebration of his Diamond Jubilee. In advance of the Emperor’s arrival, several Luthorian regiments of the Imperial Armed Forces had already entered the country in preparation for the ceremonial military parade scheduled later in the week.
Upon landing in Randworth, His Majesty was formally welcomed by the Commonwealth Guard, the elite ceremonial unit of the Royal Army, before being escorted by police motorcade to Victoria House. The historic building, which normally serves as the working palace of the Governor-General, is also the official residence of the Monarch while in Randworth. There, the Emperor was greeted by cheering crowds as well as members of his Mordusian family, including the Patriarch of the House of Orange-Villayn-Coliwick and Mordusia’s Governor-General, Prince Louis-Ferdinand. His Majesty later dined with the Governor-General and spent the night at Victoria House.
The following day, the Emperor attended a special joint session of the Federal Parliament and government, where ministers and members of parliament renewed their oath of allegiance to their King. During the ceremony, His Majesty was presented with a new official family portrait to be displayed in Government House, and a statue of the Emperor was commissioned for placement within the Federal Parliament building. In his address to parliament, the Emperor expressed his gratitude for the service of Mordusia’s leaders, saying, “The tireless work of governing and representing the people of Mordusia is deeply appreciated by me and my wife. I am thankful to Almighty God that I can be here with you on this occasion.” He went on to describe Mordusia as “a special place — a strong Commonwealth with six great states that I look forward to seeing with my own eyes once more.”
Later that day, the Emperor travelled to the coastal city of Port Steuart, which he formally renamed Port Victoria in honour of the Steuart-Carmichael monarchs of the Imperial Commonwealth. His Majesty toured the harbour, spoke with local residents, and was given periods of rest between engagements to prevent exhaustion.
Over the following days, the Emperor continued his tour beyond the State of Rimly, visiting each of Mordusia’s states. His programme included meetings with Ikpi communities, wildlife preservation groups, industrial leaders, and cultural organisations, while also experiencing the distinctive traditions of Voisain. On several occasions, the Emperor was taken to rest due to fatigue. Meanwhile, national and state governments organised celebrations across the country in his honour, marking Mordusia’s long shared history with the House of Orange-Villayn and Luthori. Events included concerts by leading artists and choirs, featuring popular music, folk songs, the Royal Anthem, and the national anthem.
On the eighth and final day of the visit, following a short period of rest at Rechtenburg Castle in New Orange, His Majesty returned to Randworth for the grand military parade. Luthorian and Mordusian forces from all branches of their armed services marched in full ceremonial dress before their sovereign and commander-in-chief, accompanied by cavalry units and massed military bands. Overhead, formations of fighter aircraft, bombers, and transport planes from both nations flew in salute, while the navies of Luthori and Mordusia fired ceremonial salutes in Port Victoria, Port-des-Dieux, and Port Alexander.
The visit concluded with a state banquet at Rechtenburg Castle, attended by all Lieutenant-Governors, State Premiers, senior officials, distinguished citizens, and members of the Governor-General’s family. Speeches and toasts were offered in honour of the Emperor, who in his closing address reflected on the many experiences of his journey: the nation’s wildlife preservation efforts, its diverse cultures, and the strength of its six states. “It has been wonderful to meet so many of you across the country and to see for myself what makes Mordusia so special,” the Emperor said. “This nation is as close to my heart as is Luthori — two roses blooming in the sun, strong together.”

Mining sector finally recovering
Digging for the economy
5698
Randworth - The mining sector is slowly been getting its ground and expanding as the government had wished. According to a report of the economic ministry the mining sector has begun to slowly expand, hire people and making a healthy profit. This has come after a year of lawsuits against the government’s decision by environmental groups and special interest groups such as the Ikpi people living in the areas. Minister Harrold Burry of Economics, National Resources and Business stated he is pleased with result.
Ever since the announcement the government would make a full plan of re-opening the mines in 5648 and the deregulations and the creation of new leases and new grounds for resource exploitation in 5696, the government has been fighting legal battle after legal battle. However, the final legal battle against the united interest groups was won in the Federal Court in 5697, ending years of uncertainty for the mining sector and various other industries related to that. With this news various investments and further leases were tendered away, causing a remarkable but steady increase in specifically the mining sector in Mordusia. Mostly the state of Outback saw the largest increase in mining, adding much needed economic activity in the least prosperous state of the Commonwealth.
A remaining problem is the continued uncertainty of the resolution of the conflict between Vanukean mining companies who lost their mining rights during the world-burning government in Vanuku. Illegitimate says Charles Albanese, lawyer representing the companies in Mordusia. ‘’Private companies are not their governments’’ says the lawyer, he continued with saying that ‘’fears of losing control over natural resources was unnecessary and the arguments therein were lacking’’. The ministry has refused to comment on the situation, however it is known that the government is willing to compensate the some of the damages of the company with new leases, however it is unknown if the mining company from Vanuku would agree to such a thing. This brings with it uncertainty.
Despite this, the increase in mining activity has lowered the unemployment figures and boosted investments into Mordusia steadily, which the government hopes will keep on continuing which will result in increased government revenues and a decline in expenditures, making it less painfull to settle with the Vanukeans if that might be neccessary.
