Federal elections: Nationals win plurality as the coalition loses big time
Not a good night for the main parties as smaller parties gain ground
March 5640
Randworth – All polls indicated a strong lead for the National Party and a potential majority government for the Nationals in the bag, however as the counting went on during the night we saw a different story: A shift away from the main parties and a move to the minor parties, even a new liberal party entering the scene! A historic election night for sure.
The night began with all parties coming together with their followers, staffers and watching the election results in each constituency and each state. The Nationals were hopeful to finally beat the Reform-Labor coalition after being out of power for 16 years, especially now that Peter Dustin, the leader of the Reform-Labor coalition had stepped down as leader as was replaced by deputy leader Clara Dunfrey. This time Michael Hewson, the leader of the Nationals, really hoped to unseat the centre-left and become prime-minister.
The Reform-Labor campaigned on aiding the working man, giving power to the regional governments and making sure big companies paid their fair share in taxes. The Nationals campaigned on lowering taxes, balancing the budget and cutting regulations and bringing more room for foreign investments and businesses, targeting the middle-income the most with their policies. The Wildlife Party campaigned for a green new deal for Mordusia and protecting the environment and increasing the number of reservations for Dodo birds. The Wildlife Party blasted Reform-Labor for not being really on the left and focussing too little on the environment.
But then the hopes and dreams of National were dashed when a splinter group of Nationals and Reform party members joined into a new party: Forward Mordusia. Forward was founded as a centre to centre-right liberal party, focussing on internationalism, free markets, heavy investment in climate protections and education as well as digitalization. The party campaigned on a new hope for Mordusia and a break from traditional politics. This seemed to have caused a bigger shift to them then the pollsters had noticed.
As the counting ended deep in the night it became ever clear that the polls were dead wrong and that the expected National Party majority government predicted did not come to pass. With the last votes counted and the last constituencies declared the outcome was clear: Reform-Labor has lost the most amount of seats and the Nationals though wining the plurality in the election again, lost 13 seats. The big winners were the Wildlife Party, winning 20 seats, Forward Mordusia storming parliament with 17 seats and Ikpi Rights wining 8 seats. With this we have another hung parliament.
When looking at the popular vote, its clear that the Nationals lost a huge amounts of votes these elections, whilst the Reform-Labor lost out in competition seats and had its seats more effectively represent the votes they got, unlike in the last election. Despite that voters still left the party for the more liberal minded party with its centre-right leader.
There are two options, but it seems Forward Mordusia finds itself in the Kingmaker position, they can side with the Nationals to supply their minority government or form a coalition with Wildlife and Reform-Labor to bring them to the needed majority. Talks about the next government are sure to begin soon.

New National government takes office
Nationals return to power with help of Forward Mordusia
June 5640
Randworth - Its been a month after the election and the effects of the hung parliament were clear as day as the major parties fought for the controlling majority in the Parliament. On the one hand were the biggest party, the smallest loser: The Nationals. On the other hands were the reigning Reform-Labor coalition, the biggest losers of the elections. The path for a majority was harder for the Coalition than ever before, but they nearly succeeded, however the Nationals managed to convince Forward Mordusia to join their government instead.
And so Michael Hewson was sworn in as Prime-Minister by the Governor-General this morning as he secured a majority yesterday and presented his new cabinet as well as the agreement he made with Forward Mordusia. The agreement details some policies that would be pursued by the government in return for the support of Forward to keep the government in a majority position in the Parliament. Forward Mordusia will not be joining the coalition however and will remain fully in the Parliament, only giving confidence and supply support.
A dream that came true for the Nationals, after being out of power since 5624, they are back in office.

Mordusia gives docking rights Egelion
March 5642
Port des Pieux, Voisain - Egelion’s navy has been given permanent docking and refueling rights in the port in Voisain. These rights were given after negotiations by Luthori onbehalf of Mordusia and Egelion. The new treaty starts a new relationship between Mordusia and Egelion, one which the government hopes will help the development of the economy and the increased trade with Dovani and Keris.
It is no secret that the naval defense capacities of the Commonwealth are suboptimal. The growing trade lanes in the East and the increasing oppertunities for Mordusia to be an alternative to the busy Aldegar canal, especially with the high speed bullet train for persons and freight offer great economic boons for Mordusia. But it also offers strategic problems for the safety of these trade lanes. Dovani and Viscania are known to have historic problems with piracy. Also regional instability often disrupts trade. The government therefor felt it neccessary to seek out naval partners and tie them to the region. Such a nation is Egelion.
The National minister of Foreign Affairs and the Prime-Minister said that the country needs a more broad outlook and seek out partners. Though Luthori will always remain partner number one, thanks to the Commonwealth and personal union, the Commonwealth cannot bank soley on the power of the Empire to protect every part of Mordusia, especially Mordusian trade. With the decline of the Canrille Empire, to move more inwards, the protection in the oceans to the east of Mordusia are less protected. Though the Anatonese Empire provides thankfull security in the Anatonese ocean the relations between Kalistan and the Commonwealth countries of Luthori and Mordusia are rocky. Mordusia does not consider them immidiate partners according to the Foreign Ministry.
According to Economic Minister Elsbeth Lucilia the deal with Egelion will set up new and better relations with Egelion and provide cover in the East and expansion of trade and shipping from the Mordusian-Luthorian shipping industry. The idea of the government is to make new deals with Egelion and various Dovani nations for better trade relations. Though the Anatonese Empire remains also a interesting entity to discuss relations with, the hostile relations towards Luthori and Egelion make it less than ideal for the Commonwealth to engage in.

Foreign Policy Agenda set: Dovani and Seleyan focus
Foreign minister sets record strait on Egelion deal and Luthorian relations whilst outlining Commonwealth foreign policy
September 5642
Randworth - In a response to an article from the Anatonese Empire the Foreign Minister was asked to comment on the response. The Foreign Ministry released a statement in name of the minister and the Federal Government on the matter, saying that Mordusia stands firmly with Luthori, but is open to work with many nations for a more prosperous and preacefull Terra.
In a response from the Anatonese Empire’s Imperial Government the Federal Government kept silent for a month. The government itself seems to have to guess how or if to respond to it. The article came after the Federal Government confirmed the deal with Egelion to give them refueling and docking rights to allow them to aid nations in the region in protecting the trade and anti-piracy actions in the region. The Anatones Empire saw this as abandoning the protection guarantee of Luthori and giving Egelion docking rights. On this the minister was asked to clarify the position and respond to the Anatonese claims, the Ministry stated: ‘’The Luthorian Empire remains our foremost partner in all things, especially security and economically. But to ask them to sail so far from all the time and keep us secure only themselves, that seems a rather foolish policy. We welcome partners in the region to help us but also to cooperate with us. Such as Mordusia’s plan to cooperate more closely in the East with Alduria’’. The statement also explicitly corrected the wrongfully made claims by other nations that the Commonwealth gave rights to Egelion akin to what Lodamun had in the past: ‘’Lodamun had a military base in Mordusia, Egelion does not, they have docking rights. The Commonwealth doesn’t allow foreign bases in Mordusia except to nations that are members of the Commonwealth of Nations, such as Luthori and Hutori if they should ask’’.
Later on the Foreign Minister in the Federal Parliament debated with the opposition on this issue and the foreign policy presented in the parliament by the government. Minister Caroline Blackwood said that Mordusia ‘’will seek partners across the world’’ and that the Commonwealth looks forward to ‘’talks with the Anatonese Empire on trade and diplomatic relations’’. The Foreign Minister spoke of the great success the foreign policy of the National-led government has had pointing to the successful visit of Utaristani officials to discuss trade relations which according to the Minister ‘’could have huge benefits to our economy, their minerals will aid in the development of key new industries in our Commonwealth’’. In the foreign policy the Nationals want to focus on increasing trade relations with Dovani nations, Egelion, Hutori and deepening the ties with Alduria. Luthori is mentioned by the minister again as the greatest partner and its number one ally. The Anatonese Empire is mentioned as well, with the government saying that ‘’the Anantonese Empire is both friendly and sometimes hostile towards us. It’s a bit of a mystery what their stance is. We are keen to keep stable and mutually beneficial relationship with them including improved trade. But we will cautiously approach and think on that matter’’.

Shark Shack launched! Fish & Chips all around!
Foster Food introducing fast food restaurant for seafood after succesfull Kangaroo Burger
September 5644
Randworth - In 5572 Alex Foster had created a successful new chain of fast-food restaurants called Kangaroo Burger. It leaped from its humble beginnings to become a true giant in Mordusia. Being the nation’s most popular fast-food restaurant. Now Olivia Foster, granddaughter and current CEO of Foster Food Holdings, the owner of the Kangaroo Burger chain, wants to expand the business, partnering with fishers all across Mordusia’s coasts to open her new fish-based fast-food chain: Shark Shack!
Mrs Foster said to that the Luthorian inherited fish and chips is ‘’popular in our country’’ but that it ‘’lacks a good Mordusian flair’’. She continued saying that ‘’the taste of the white fish used it boring, we in the Shark Shack instead use the much more interesting flake from the Gummy Shark!’’. The first restaurants have opened in various cities, primarily in coastal cities. Mrs Foster and her company Foster Food will move land inwards slowly, expanding the restaurants to all corners of Mordusia’s Commonwealth.
With this expansion the holding company of the Foster family will have three brands, the Olivia’s, her fine dining Istalian cuisine restaurant in Port Alexander, Kangaroo Burger; the burger restaurant and now Shark Shack. Adding various new flavours to the Mordusian pallet.

National Party clinches slim majority, Coalition in crisis
Nationals secure majority whilst Reform-Labor are left in chaos and crisis
June 8, 5645 (backdated)
![[Image: Js6cvnAx_400x400.jpg]](https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/1892083640814714880/Js6cvnAx_400x400.jpg)
Randworth, Coliwick – The conservative National Party has secured a narrow majority in the Federal Parliament these elections, winning 176 seats out of the 351 seats. This makes makes it the party’s strongest electoral performance since the election of 5635 and gives it the slimmest possible majority with just 1 seat over the 175 required to govern alone. Without this one seat they will lose their majority.
Nationals rewarded by the voters
It goes without saying that the Nationals are very happy with this turn-out. Prime-Minister Michael Hewson had campaigned to give the Nationals a majority to govern more effectively and ‘’keeping the country on the right track’’. For the last five years the Nationals had to gain a majority through working with other parties in the parliament. Though a deal with Forward Mordusia created a majority for the National-led government to implement its goals, it had to give way to Forward Mordusia is moderating some of their plans. On other topics that it couldn’t reach a deal with the party it had to search for other allies in parliament. This proved increasingly difficult. Reform-Labor were plagued by infighting over policy choices and were constantly attacked by Forward Mordusia and the Wildlife Party trying to take voters away from them. Mr. Hewson however got his wish, he now has a clear mandate for the Nationals to continue on their own, responding to the election results by saying that ‘’the voter has chosen to award the stability of the National Party and Forward Mordusia after infighting and chaos on the left’’.
Reform-Labor lose as liberals and Greens gain
The election brought no joy to the traditional centre-left coalition of the Reform Party and Labor Party. The election was a stinging defeat for the Coalition, which fell from 138 seats to just 101, marking a loss of over a quarter of its representation and the heaviest loss to date. Political analysts attribute the result to internal division within the coalition ranks, the unclear message and accusations of flipflopping on issues. Clearly the party entered a period of identity troubles, especially with the liberal Forward Mordusia and the green Wildlife Party taking up roles to the right and left of the party respectively, taking away more hardline and more moderate voters away from the party. The loss attributed to the Reform Party leader stepping down as leader of the Reform-Labor Coalition after the election. The new leader Rohan Delvene of the Labor Party taking over, saying that ‘’its time to reinvent ourselves’’.
Minor parties capitalise on Coalition chaos
Amidst this collapse however the minor parties made major gains this election. The Wildlife Party added 11 seats, now holding 36. Continuing its steady growth in urban and coastal electorates with its message of green energy investment and animal welfare. The more centrist liberals of Forward Mordusia offered a great alternative for mostly Reform voters who want a progressive centre to centre-right alternative to both the centre-left Reform Party and the conservative National Party. Formed just one election agi, doubled its presence to 33 seats, gaining traction in middle-class and mostly highly educated voter groups in the suburbs and regional tech corridors with a focus on digital innovation and moderate liberalism. New to the parliament is the regional party Parti Voisainaise. This party did not compete in previous elections because of their nominal support of the Reform Party's original platform of regionalism. With the Reform-Labor coalition becoming ever more closely linked in identity the party decided that Voisains interests can only be served by themselves. The state of Voisain is the state with a large canrillaise minority and an even larger Voisainse Mordusian minority (red: Mordusians who are bilingual and a unique Mordusian-Canrille hybrid culture in Voisain).

Visit from Istalia, exploring new relations & trade chances
A new partner for Mordusia?
September 5646
Randworth - With the announcement of a formal visit to Mordusia by the new Istalian government the Foreign Ministry announced that minister Caroline Blackwood is delighted by this new opportunity. According to the ministry the Foreign Ministry itself is seeking new avenues to expand the diplomatic and economic relations with various states.
The first on the list is Istalia itself, the Foreign Minister has given orders to prepare for the arrival of officials from the Istalian government. Talks will be held on the future relations with Istalia. For the Mordusian government it is important that the security and trade relations are discussed. The Commonwealth has gained more protective support from the Holy Luthorian Empire with the stationing of a naval tactical group. It is reported that the Istalian government wants reassurances and discuss how the Sea of Lost Souls can be protected and the Commonwealth and its Imperial ally not form a threat to their nation. The Foreign Ministry has let the media know that its open for these talks with Istalia but that the fleet will remain as long as Luthori desires it and wishes to aid Mordusia.
On the Mordusian mind is more the possibility of economic trade and cooperation on mutual development. Over the years Mordusia has vastly invested in its infrastructure and with Istalian and others investments into Mordusia the nation can act more as a transit hub that before. Already the cooperation between the ports, factories and inland transportation aids both Mordusian companies and the Luthorian shipping companies operating in Mordusia. With Istalia the Mordusians hope on mutual trade but also to be the main route to bring goods from Canrille and Vascania or Dovani to Istalia. The trade relations could also bolster national industries and the exploitation of natural resources. Something the National Party-led government has been pushing for during their first term.
