Gaduridos
Ana Sofia Seco voted out in ULD internal vote of no confidence; Nico Miralles voted in as ULD pledges federalism and support for regionalism.
-----------------------
November 20th, 5732
-----------------------
After the Vintalli Tamayo Scandal, many had questions for if the ULD would continue it's right wing transformation into a national liberal party, and it seems in the 5732 Party Congress, the political environment of Gaduridos was given an answer as what was initially supposed to be seen as a reaffirmation of national liberalism, was instead seen as a rebuke of national liberalism and Ana Sofia Seco as delegates instead issued a vote of no confidence against her and succeeded, with Seco being replaced by Nico Miralles. Almost immediately, Miralles reaffirmed that the Liberal Democratic Union is committed to "modern international liberalism", "free trade", "federalism and respect for regionalism" and "centrist governing".

The key focus has been on the last two, as Miralles ULD is looking to restore and repair relations with United Vintalli and ensure VU remains a viable partner for the ULD in Vintalli. And to prevent the VU from drifting entirely towards social democracy (as United Vintalli is a broad centre left party, ranging from social democracy to left liberalism/progressivism), it seems the explicit support for regionalism and not just federalism alone is made as a concession to make VU reconsider its current course. The final aspect has been refuting cooperation with the more extremist elements of the nationalist right, as Miralles has reaffirmed that the ULD is committed to the centre, leaving only cooperation with the PSSG and PNPG as the Free Soil Party (PSL) and it's sister party, the National Front (NF) remain firmly locked out of governing for the time being.

The right wing of the ULD has reacted negatively to this, perceiving it as an internal party coup and threatening to outright walk out of the ULD and join the PNPG. As a concession, Miralles have assured that the ULD will remain committed to classical liberalism and oppose big government. This has, seemingly, placated most of the ULDs right wing with the nationalists in the ULD grumbling but staying. But with federalism being made apart of the ULDs manifesto, the question is now shifting to whether federalism can be implemented and whether the Constitution can be rewritten to include federalist provisions for the Kingdom of Gaduridos.

The current minor parties in Gaduridos; From the Green Action Party to the Gaduri State Party.
---------------------------------
August 19th, 5733
---------------------------------
The giants of the Gaduri political environment are well known. The Seleyan Social Democratic Party of Gaduridos remains a juggernaut, the Liberal Democratic Union remains notable in local politics, and the Gaduri National People's Party is quickly making ground and has a chance to become a sizable competitor to the PSSG. However, there are several other parties within Congress and especially the wider political environment. From the far left to the right.

Starting from the left, we have our most radical party. The Communist Party of Gaduridos (PCG), which remains firmly committed to revolutionary communism and Metzism-Leonidism. The PCG does reject "bourgeois democracy" and as such, does not actually contest elections. Because of this, it doesn't really have a other base and membership has steadily declined over the years. Compared to other communist groups in Seleya (such as the KPW in Valruzia), the CPG is quite committed to Orthodox Metzism. Moving on, the Workers Party of Gaduridos (PDtG), which has largely seen its relevance collapse after its split and equally has little support across the country, only achieving results in local elections and at a very small level, relying on charismatic politicians instead of actual policy due to the contradictions of what the PDtG actually stands for.

The first non centre left party to achieve some ground in Congress, albeit in a small manner is the Republican Left of Gaduridos (IRdG), which is largely a copy of the PSSG in advocating for Social Democracy (albeit the IRdG has seen criticism for supposedly being Third Way), but it largely attracts voters due to advocating for Republicanism. However as His Majesty remains popular, and the Valcorico House remains universally popular, the Republican Left has been struggling, narrowly holding onto its few seats in Congress and is expected to lose them in 5734. Looking to the centre, we see the Party for the Democratic Revolution (PdRD), an explicitly Left Liberal, Progressive Party that's largely focused on expanding democratization. The PdRD hasn't entered Congress in almost a century however and remains relevant in only city council elections and mayorship elections across the country in urban Gaduridos. There is also of course, the Green Action Party (PAV), which has struggled nationally and locally due to its firm opposition to the oil industry and endorsement of green politics. While winning a few city council seats across the country, the PAV has been criticized for not really providing solutions, and replacements to the issues it sees with the economy. Something that has certainly driven working class voters away from the PAV.

To the right is the Gaduri State Party (PEdG), a firmly right wing nationalist, corporatist party that has only won a handful of seats in Congress. The PEdG has made it no secret that it favours armed neutrality, strengthing the monarchy, and enacting a corporatist economy. However, it pales in comparison to the far right. Of which, we have the Free Soil Party (PSL) a far right populist, ultra nationalist party that has faced several accusations of being neo-fascistic. The PSL's lynchpin issues have always been immigration and anti communism, as the country has always shared a border with a communist state at some point (whether Baltusia before the Silver Revolution or Tukarali presently). The second far right party is technically in an electoral alliance with the PSL. The National Party of Gaduridos (PNG), which defines itself as a "National Conservative" party but has frequently been compared to Paleoconservativism or even acting as a moderate front for the PSL. Despite an attempt in the early 5720s to break free, the leadership of the National Party have firmly stayed loyal to the PSL.

Of course, there are also the regionalist parties/special interest parties, of which we have 3 notable ones. The most notable is of course, United Vintalli (VU), looking to represent Vintallians in.. the Duchy of Vintalli. Being a centre to centre left party, the VU takes in Social Democrats, Left Liberals, Progressives and Social Liberals, but is largely defined by regionalism and remains heavily popular in Vintalli. The second is the Marligantos Development Party (PDM), operating in the Duchy of Marligantos. Being a largely centrist party, the PDM largely acts as a developmentalist, small industry party for the island, looking to represent the rest of Marligantos outside the capital of Ciudad de Gadur. The PDM is relatively small as the island is dominated by the PSSG but it is helpful for influencing policy at times. The final special interest party is the syncretic Institutional Party of Gaduridos (PIG), which defines itself as "being above party politics and ideology" and has largely defined itself by advocating for a reunification of the Anantonese Empire. Despite being unpopular nationally, the PIG occasionally wins a few seats in Duchy Congresses.

Despite the PSSG being dominant, the Gaduri Political Environment remains quite diverse on a local level.

Building up the Gaduri Dairy Industry; Expanding Agriculture beyond crops.
[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQMknEAqUQBrOvLyDRjDV9...-qzjo&s=10]

-------------------------
For the agricultural industry in Gaduridos, let's face it. It's heavily reliant on crops to thrive. So, what's the best way to fix that? By expanding diversity in the sector. Dairy for example has been established but as it stands, the dairy industry remains new and fragile. As such, the PSSG is looking to tackle this issue, both to ensure farmers remain loyal to the PSSG and to ensure that the national economy continues growing.

As such, the first step for supporting the dairy industry is to improve feed and pasture development. A dairy farm is only as productive as it's feed. Whether it be improving grazing land availability, expanding silage production and improving its quality and irrigation for fodder crops, these will lower costs and stabilize dairy production during potential droughts or poor harvests. Furthermore, the Ministry of Agriculture will begin initiatives aimed at improving how cattle are handled. Herd management, disease prevention, milk handing and business strategies will be offered as educational programs to farmers across the country.

To ensure that the industry isn't reliant on milk alone, which can expire easily, processing plants will be supported (both public and largely private) to prevent having to transport milk across large distances and boost local economies. These plants will focus on producing pasteurized milk, butter, cream, yogurt and even cheese. Of course, cold chain infrastructure will still be vital as expired, spoiled milk is just a public health disaster waiting to happen. Refrigerated collection centres, refrigerated rail transport, food storage warehouses, and modern retail refrigeration will be invaluable.

The Ministry of Welfare has also shown interest in taking advantage of milk for social programs, such as expanding school milk programs, or hospital nutrition programs. While supporting the agricultural industry is always a positive, the current Minister of Agriculture, Fernando Martínez has been very enthusiastic about expanding dairy production, believing that the effort will help farmers across the country, and help consumers in having more diversity for the grocery stores.

Umberto Barrios (PSSG) elected Prime Minister: PNPG makes solid gains against PSSG.
-------------------------
November 2nd, 5734
-------------------------
Last months elections have resulted in, perhaps predictably, a PSSG victory. However, two events have made the election more notable. First, the National People's Party of Gaduridos has made solid gains within Congress, unifying the formal right and showing that Gaduri Conservativism can stand a chance against the PSSG. While the PSSG still retains a majority, it is ever so slimmer now and next election, they may genuinely lose it (barring a coalition). However, the real focus has been on the election of Umberto Barrios who won the Primary earlier this summer.

Barrios, despite being apart of the centrist PSSG, has endorsed select socialist policies, such as banking reform, housing reform (and expansion), and perhaps crucially, endorsed the End Poverty in Gaduridos Program, something the Garcian Socialists have pushed for immensely. Despite a strong effort by the Garcian Socialists, they ultimately lost the Primary but it seems they've gained concessions.

Whatever the case, Barrios enters Los Altos with a resurrected Gaduri Right, socialist pressure, and a relatively growing economy. Whether his agenda will be able to be enacted, is an entirely different thing due to the machinations of Congress but with the majority retained for the PSSG, it's very much possible.

Prime Minister Barrios welcomes talks from Kaliburg; "A mutually beneficial resolution for security in the Schismatic Sea and Bentasur is an ideal solution."
-------------------------
January 14th, 5736
-------------------------
Late last year, Luthori began moving naval assets into the Schismatic Sea, directly south of Gaduridos. Framing this as in the name of peace and securing trade interests, a representative was sent directly to Ciudad de Gadur to address potential Gaduri concerns. Almost immediately however, Kaliburg condemned the Luthorian move and offered talks with Gaduridos on strengthing Pan-Seleyan security cooperation, and perhaps more importantly, the possibility of the return of the Bentasur Naval Base.

Long being a sore spot in relations between Gaduridos and Kalistan, and a prize for Gaduri nationalists across the aisle, it would be impossible for any government to realistically ignore such an offer and expect to be re-elected. Even with the pacifist wing of the PSSG being validated with the abolishment of Mandatory Military Service, it's been well agreed that Gaduridos must maintain some self defense force, and this has presented an opportunity to do so (as there's political willpower and public support), and also secure Bentasur in the process. As such, this week, Prime Minister Barrios (PSSG) has welcomed the offer of talks with Kalistan and accepted them wholeheartedly.

Quote:While we are optimistic that Luthori is honest in their word, there is merit to the argument that security of the region must fall to domestic actors. The time has come for Gaduridos to begin introducing armed neutrality into its vocabulary. Should Kalistan keep it's word regarding a phased transfer ship of Bentasur, then the Gaduri Navy will see itself invested into, strictly for means of defense and security.

While pacifists are understandably upset over this shift in course, especially after Pardo's administration (5730-5735), Bentasur is simply something no government can realistically ignore. With the Prime Ministers statements receiving widespread endorsement from nationalists across the entire political spectrum, there isn't much momentum to cause the Barrios Administration to reject Kalistani talks. However, the real question will be over how much the Gaduri Navy can be modernized and developed, as such a task will likely be demanding, both for political capital and the economy. Even if it is kept strictly for defensive measures. Barrios was elected on the platform of housing reforms, not warships after all.

Gaduridos offers de-escalation talks in Ciudad de Gadur as tensions continue to rise; "Let us come to the table, not just for the future of our children but our grandchildren."
-------------------------
August 7th, 5736
-------------------------
To say that panic has defined the current climate in Gaduridos the past few months has been an understatement. With tensions between Kalistan and Luthori only rising as both sides refuse to back down, the clock has been slowly ticking towards midnight as war between two two powers seems almost inevitable. Trade in the region has already begun to suffer and confidence in continued peace has dropped fast as investors fear the worst. For Gaduridos, which is reliant on trade, this is the worst case scenario possible. And pressure has been high on the Barrios Administration for months. This week, the Prime Minister made a move.

That move has been to offer Ciudad de Gadur as a neutral site for de-escalation talks between the two states.

Quote:The current situation is growing more dire by the minute. Tensions are high. Everyone is anxious. Preparing for and expecting war. We cannot realistically sit by and let this happen. We must do something. That is why I am asking the government of Luthori and Kalistan to come to their senses. We must seek a peaceful, de-escalation. Not just for the future of our children, but our grandchildren. For the future of our nations. For the name of peace. Gaduridos is known for its neutrality and we are willing to fully welcome Luthori and Kalistan to Ciudad de Gadur for talks. If not for the sake of peace, then for the sake of prosperity and wealth.

Of course, this comes during Congress debating the fiscal costs of rearmament as the ongoing tensions have reduced trade revenue. But regardless of political differences, everyone is hoping that peace can be kept. This is something held in support as most members of Congress have endorsed Barrios for the move, believing that this crisis is above partisan politics. Reportedly, the King has also extended an endorsement, with His Majesty telling reporters that "he's uncertain but wants to be hopeful that Kalistan and Luthori will do what's best for their subjects and seek a peaceful resolution". When asked on if he would take an active role in talks, should they be accepted, he refused to give an answer.

Communist Party of Gaduridos Party Congress sees Jairo Espinar voted out; Mónica García becomes chairwoman as she looks to shift the PCG towards electoralism.
-----------------------------
August 17th, 5736
-----------------------------
For almost a decade, the Communist Party of Gaduridos has defined itself by its staunch commitment to anti electoralism, and strict commitment to Orthodox Metzism-Leonidism. When the PCG began it's Party Congress, many expected the status quo to prevail and the PCG to continue fading into irrelevance. Those expectations however, were shattered as the Party Chairman behind the status quo, Jairo Espinar was decisively voted out and replaced by Mónica García, a "moderate" (however close a communist can get) within the party. García has pledged to revitalize the Gaduri communist movement, and engage with  electoralism to empower the Gaduri Proletariat.

This move has sparked alarm in the Workers Party, which has drifted with no identity and was securing voters who would normally vote for the Communists but couldn't. Now with the communists formally making efforts to get into the ballot for 5738, there is a genuine possibility that the PCG may enter Congress. Even in a small manner, this would still be a considerable shock to the political environment. García has however reaffirmed that the Communist Party is firmly opposed to bourgeois parties and is committed to representing the Gaduri Proletariat in international socialism.

Whatever the case, it seems the Communist Party is looking to give itself a new course in direction. Whether successful or not, the far left will certainly be affected by it.

Peace Prevails; Kalistan and Luthori agree to de-escalation.
-------------------------------
October 6th, 5736
-------------------------------
After what felt like the longest days in Ciudad de Gadur, Los Altos has announced to the world that the current de-escalation talks between Kalistan and Luthori have yielded success. While tensions aren't entirely erased, the agreement has paved the road for that, with both Luthori and Kalistan agreeing to de-escalation. Such efforts include the Luthorian Carrier Strike Group Clockwork departing from its current location, and be replaced by the Luthorian 7th Flotilla. In exchange, Kalistan will pull back it's end Fleet from the Mad Dog Ocean, and have the 3rd fleet in the Schismatic Sea stand down.

While this is a fragile truce, credit has been given to Gaduridos for actually broking the truce and preventing a disastrous war, as trade routes have already been destabilized (but are slowly stabilizing). Domestically, Gaduridos has breathed a sigh of relief as it's waters won't be turnt into a warzone and trade routes won't be shattered. The Barrios Administration has also received commendation for actually brokering a truce between the two powers.

Of course however, this truce remains fragile and it's hoped that it can be kept indefinitely. And there still is the question of domestic rearmament, which will no doubt be an expensive project. But with a truce established, trade routes in the wider Anantonese Ocean can stabilize and the Gaduri economy can take a moment to breath easy.
