5642 - TODAY: Lehitorer (Neset vs EE)

Imagine the sound of sea waves crushing on a rocky beach.

One of those ugly beaches; not Kalopian. Not Amudimim either. Dusk. Light breeze, slightly cold. It looked like it was going to rain. Or not. That annoying undecided weather, clouds smiling ironically here and there.

It was always a meeting by the sea, for obvious reasons. Waves and whatnot offered static masking against surveillance.

You know, just in case certain folks were listening.

You also know the stories - the ridiculous stories of legend that some knew to be true, others know them to be fiction. Scattered, seemingly random; splattered across the pages of history, apparently without pattern.

It started with a brother hunting a brother, as most cases are. Then the hunted fleeing. Then the hunter plotting revenge. The hunted plotting to avenge. Movements on the map, curiously purposeful from a certain point of view - then the hunter losing. Annihilated, murdered, gutted.

Crumbs everywhere, for those who dig deeper, in between the movements on the map and the pages of history.

-

You really think a race, plotting within plots for thousands of years, would not plot for after achieving victory?

-

Her thoughts were interrupted when Laurene Orleans-Vasser-Elior approached her from the side.

Ah, time for the meeting.

It is time.

"Look at you!", she said to Laurene; "and it's only been 10 years! Well played."

Laurene rolled her eyes. "It's not us".

"No it isn't".

I speak to you in the voice of Elyon, kiddo. The One of all faiths. He who casts shadow and light upon our world in equal measure. For our world has changed many times, but not as many times as one might think. Curious, how the youngsters of history are so eager to shape it, discarding the carvings of those before them, thinking theirs will stay unaltered. Such is the duality of man, kiddo.

Memory is spoken or written. The one we hear, we alter due to what we forget. The one we read, we change of what we don't want to remember. It is a feeble thing, memory. A momentary passing in the infinite span of time, one that is merely greater than our lifespan.

We keep memory to avoid. To protect. To warn. So what is memory other than a mistake? Pain. Danger.

So memory must be the result of our fight or flight mode. But this is where I lose the voice of Elyon, kiddo. Because everything about biochemistry is about power. To keep it or to cost it from someone else. In the name of ideals. In the name of a different future. Of improvement. Because our power is better than others, and our ideals are better than history's mistakes.

Round and round we go. In this changing world order.

"We wait". He was commanding. No questions asked. Reassuring, at the same time.

"We just wait - just wait!"

"It's been confirmed", he whispered, almost breathlessly; "our brethren have confirmed it".

She wept.

17 January 5689 - Undisclosed location in Trigunia (Nadiya)

When someone walks on snow that's solidly layered on the ground after a good snowfall, their inner child springs up. It's just that sound and feeling under your feet. Nothing like it.

Hannah was cursing. A desert rat herself from the Jelbic steppes, the snow was annoying.  The violent cold was annoying. The land was annoying. Poor Noah, for dealing with these people.

She expected steep and heavy bargaining. Oil. Gold. Something else.

But the intelligence was far more important.

And it had to be done.

21 February 5689 10:32PM - Yishelem, Foreign & Diaspora Office

Hannah Metzayot, the one who sat across from Balthazar Tzafrir once in Wiel wearing 1 of the 2 golden signet rings of the Kadiyot House, entered the elevator with him.

As soon as the doors closed, she took out a knife and slit the throat of the Interim Foreign Secretary.

He collapsed, agonising, gargling - she bent, looked down and spoke with disgust.

"You assholes".

10:34PM

Debra Brnas met her in the underground parking lot. Several RSB agents with gloves moved behind Hannah into the elevator, to dispose the body of the idiot.

"Anne-Marie is waiting in the car", struggling to avoid the sight in the elevator.

10:35PM

The car doors slammed. Francois Undersand locked the doors and began driving. "We will pay for this", he said as he turned left in the empty street. Yellow lights highlighting an avenue 2 blocks away.

"I'm done waiting", she exclaimed looking at the glass windows of the Foreign & Diaspora Office.

"We need them, Hannah".
