FOREIGN AID MINISTER HIJACKS GOVERNMENT!!!!

Many woke up on this November morning to much confusion. Most people, including members of our own institution, were unaware that Foreign Aid Minister, Zeeshan Lodi, still had the ability to make press announcements to the World News. He has now made an announcement, denouncing the results of the recent election and trying to sew doubts within leftists circles about the integrity of our elections. Lodi also requested for military attacks against the new Government within Solentia, which many within our organization feel is insensitive given recent violent attacks by United Worker Party supporters on opposing party supporters. We tried to reach out to both Gedi Khan and Zeeshan Lodi for comment however we both were ignored. 

We will update when more of this story breaks.

Ahmadists dominate Solentian election

The Ahmadists Hezb-e Ahmadi have dominated the Solentian legislative elections, securing 359 seats in the Workers Council. Mullah Mohammad Yummah Has also been elected President, easily beating incumbent President Gedi Khan. The new president offered the following words;

Akim has delivered a strong rebuke to the apostate government and we shall look to govern with Akims will.

The Ahmadists swept three of the five Wilayets.

Although Ahmadists are celebrating they have not won an outright majority in the legislature and will need to work with at least one other party to govern, which will likely water down their hardline social and economic policies. Hezb-e Ahmadi did very well in tribal areas, with mixed results in other areas. Strong performances in some cities were matched against very poor results in other cities for the new largest party.

In looking at other results Da Roshantya Shora secured over 30% of the seats in the national legislature doing particularly well in rural areas and in middle class districts of urban areas. The governing Mutahad Kargar Gond were reduced to a fifth of seats, although still managed to perform strongly in urban areas.

Minister for Food & Agriculture Resigns!!

Former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Amari Khan, announced his resignation as Minister of Food & Agriculture after the recent controversial events from after the election.  He released a statement today criticizing the United Workers Party unwillingness to acknowledge the results of the recent election, the violence from United Workers Party Supporters and attempts to undermine newly elected President Mullah Mohammed Yummah. 

I cannot in good faith continue to support the former regime when they are causing such problems in our Solentian nation. There have been violent attacks on people who are just expressing their views, talks about overthrowing the new majority party and even growing talks about starting a civil war. My Uncle, Gedi Khan, nominated me to serve in this position and against my better judgement, I accepted his offer. Frankly, I believe former President Gedi has gotten far too power hungry and radical for his own good. I am hearby stepping down from my position, and hoping the best for the new majority party.

New Government Agreed

Hezb-e Ahmadi and Da Roshantya Shora have agreed a new coalition government reflecting their success in the recent general election. Hezb-e Ahmadi have taken eight of the cabinet positions, although Da Roshantya Shora have taken control of the important Justice and Interior ministries. The new government has committed to overturning the secularism of the previous government  and reimplementing policies favourable to Ahmadi practice.



The two parties share some common policies, although differ on economics.

Leftist Militias Seize Key Positions in the Capital

Unidentified militiamen have seized key positions in the capital of Solentia. Although no party has formally supported the activity, the militia are using red flags and have organised demonstrations where socialist and secular slogans have been chanted. Supporters of the United Workers Party have previously conducted violence following the election in November last year, although little further violence has occurred, yet. It is unknown whether or not the United Workers Party supports this latest activity, or how the newly formed government will respond. The capital voted quite heavily for the United Workers Party although whether the UWP would risk civil war by denying the capital to the new government is an unknown question at the moment.

Coalition Bloodbath

A wave of targeted assassinations have ended the new coalition government in Solentia. Hezb-e Ahmadi have rushed to take advantage of the situation, leading to suspicion they are behind the assassinations. Similarly Jaish-e Ahmadi have moved quickly to incorporate other paramilitary organisations into their numbers. Solentia is continuing its rapid slide into an Ahmadi theocracy.

An overview of Solentian Foreign Policy

Solentia is notorious for its limited engagement in international affairs, with a Foreign Ministry that is not overburdened with Treaty obligations. It has a limited number of bilateral relations, most importantly with two of its neighbours. Solentia has signed up to some regional agreements such as the Trans-Majatran Corridors Network, mostly because inward investment saw the expansion of major road networks in Solentia, linking Solentia to its neighbours.

The fledgling government of Solentia has proposed rejoining the Treaty of Bovatho, five years after the previous government unilaterally pulled Solentia ouf of the Treaty. This would mark an effort by the new Ahmadi government to rebuild relations with its much wealthier neighbour by reopening trade and cross-border movement, as well as agreeing to non-aggression with its militarily superior neighbour. These notes aim to provide an overview of Solentian foreign policy decisions and how Solentia has historically balanced its regional relationships. Solentia is bordered to the west by Kalopia, to the north by Kafuristan and to the southeast by Istalia. All three nations are significantly wealthier than Solentia, and both Kafuristan and Istalia have historically intervened inside Solentia militarily.

Neutrality with neighbours

The Treaty of Bovotho was originally signed in 5249 with both Solentia and Kafuristan to boost economic and security ties between the two nations. It followed an earlier Peace Treaty in 5138, which followed Kafuri intervention in the second Solentian Civil War. Kafuristan also intervened in the Third Civil War, providing support to Abadi militia's operating along the northern border. However, since then relations have mostly been peaceful, if limited in commitment and engagement between the two countries.

If ties with Kafuristan have seen flares up of violence mixed with trade, the same can also be said for Istalia. Istalia has often looked north-west with concern especially relating to security. Former Istalian military personnel oversaw a coup in Solentia in the early 5100's, and in the 5250's Third Civil War Istalian intervention was decisive in restoring Republican fortunes. Istalia is keen for security in Solentia to protect its land trade links with the rest of Majatra, when Solentia is unstable it always had a knock on effect on neighbouring Istalia. Both countries have significant communities of interest resident in their neighbour, with ethnic Istalians forming 5% of Solentia's population, and Majatrans, including Solentans, making 16% of Istalia's population.

Relations with Kalopia have been notably non-violent compared to the other two neighbours of Solentia, with Solentia a signatory member of the Kalopian Official Neutrality and Diplomatic Treaty.

Solentia as a regional smuggling hub

Solentia has signficiant deep-water ports along its east coast and due to frequent periods of ineffective central government, these have often been the focus of regional smuggling activity. Some countries have sought to exploit this to their own benefit, most notably Beiteynu. With good road networks linking Solentia to the rest of Majatra and slack central government, Solentia has provded a perfect opportunity for centuries to smugglers.

Solentia as a cheap manufacturing hub

Although the previous government enacted stringent labour rights for workers, previously Solentia had been a manufacturing hub for cheap goods including clothes due to lax labour laws. In the 5100's and 5200's Solentia saw dramatic deregulation of labour laws to encourage industry to establish itself in Solentia. Many companies took advantage of the lax labour laws and low wages to build products in Solentia before exporting the goods to other countries.

Solentia as a source of guest workers

And finally, like many developing countries, Solentia also exports its people. Solentian guest workers are common in many countries and their remittances help get foreign currencies into Solentia, indeed without many workers abroad Solentia would likely be even poorer than the state it is today.

Summary

Overall Solentia remains a diplomatic and economic basket case, which other countries could easily take advantage of with a little investment and engagement. Solentian governments tend to be more focused on whether their citizens can pray or what women can wear and often do not have enough time to focus on trivial things like economic growth and securing peaceful international relations. For the unscrupulous nation or business Solentia is an opportunity!

Jaish-e Ahmadi Fighters Mass Outside Capital

With a tense standoff in the capital continuing between the previous government and the provisional Hezb-e Ahmadi government, Jaish-e Ahmadi fighters are beginning to mass on key routes outside of the capital. Although primarily armed with small arms weapon systems, they are known to have seized some armoured and artillery equipment. Jaish-e Ahmadi have significantly built up their numbers in recent months, co-opting militia groups from other political parties. The previous government have yet to publicly declare their intention and confirm that they are vacating government buildings in the capital. For the time being although there is limited fighting Solentia remains largely peaceful, although the continued paralysis of governing further degrades the economic situation in Solentia.

GEDI KHAN "DECLARES WAR" ON SOLENTIAN RULING PARTY!

Nearly two years after the contentious election, Gedi Khan has returned to the public eye to address his followers and his party's supporters. Many were optimistically hoping former President Khan would denounce the violence and support fair and free elections in 5593, but sadly their hopes were squashed by his opening speech.

Sadly, we no longer can trust our Government. Under my administration, the Solentian people were thriving but the current Government has gone out of their way to overturn all of our reforms to help our citizens prosper. I believe Muhammed, is maliciously trying to damage the working class, and by my own beliefs, that makes him an enemy to the working class! As far as I am concerned, if I am reelected, he will be arrested for his crimes against our fellow workers! To make this clear, we are hereby declaring war, and we will give them one chance to give our citizens a fair election. Otherwise, I do believe members of our party should retaliate with full force.

Civil War in Solentia!

After years of posturing civil war has broken out in Solentia between supporters of Hezb-e Ahmadi and Mutahad Kargar Gond (MKG). Militia aligned to the two political parties have clashed in cities across the nation as they seek to secure key positions, government buildings and areas of economic importance.



Pro-MKG forces have secured arsenals of equipment in major cities.

Jaish-e Ahmadi fail to take capital Oda

Jaish-e Ahmadi, the armed wing of Hezb-e Ahmadi, attempted to seize the capital Oda, but failed after taking heavy losses. Attacks were proceeded by waves of suicide bombers but pro-MKG fighters grimly held on. After several days of attacks Jaish-e Ahmadi fighters withdrew to await further reinforcements. However, with MKG secure in the south-western Wilayat of Caistra, the MKG retain strong lines of communication to the capital and have been able to rush in fighters.

Away from Oda, Jaish-e Ahmadi have been able to secure most of the rest of the Wilayat of Saspain, including border crossings with Kalopia and Kafuristan, and have begun to implement Sharia law in their areas of control. The enforcement of hardline Ahmadi law is aided by tribal militias that have rallied to Hezb-e Ahmadi.

Away from Saspain and Caistra Wilayats areas of control are more mixed. Generally the MKG have been able to secure major cities and coastal areas, including the border with Istalia, while Jaish-e Ahmadi are relatively secure in rural areas and some of the major internal cities.
