Building an economy for Meriath; A Just, Blue, Ethical economy.

An economy is not just numbers. It's the lifeblood of a nation, of people, of individuals. But what good is a lifeblood if it exploits? If it doesn't work? That's why the PPS was elected. To create an economy that doesn't exploit, but is just and ethical. To create an economy that works for all because it is moral and just. But that actually requires an economy first. To that end, President Vaganay has outlined a plan to rebuild the economy, following the agreed upon consensus for a tourist blue economy. 

As such, the Autorité Nationale de Développement Maritime (National Maritime Development Authority) will be created with the task of overseeing all economic Maritime management, such as fisheries, aquaculture and general management. To start off with building up the economy, fisheries will be created with a focus on low impact specifies such as shellfish and seaweed. Obviously this won't encompass the entire country, but it'll be a start to get workers employed. These fisheries will be mixed, with public fisheries adopting worker input whilst private ones will be given tax breaks and subsidies for adopting worker input. 

Alongside this, training programs to ensure competentcy. These programs will be directly paid for by the state, with an special focus on sustainability, processing and value added products. These programs will be offered to public and private fisheries. To ensure fisheries don't spoil their goods, storages will be created to ensure no spoilage occurs. But the most valuable thing besides the fisheries will be the creation of small scale processing plants. While the economy and aquaculture industry isn't in any position for mass industrialization to the island, this still keeps jobs here and provides value to local communities, encouraging local development. Whether it be fish, shellfish, or something like cleaning, filleting, or packaging, these plants will be invaluable to local economics beyond Leria, such as Ajia or Baszanna. To ensure this industry doesn't collapse, special zones will be established, maritime conservation zones to ensure environmental protection (for future tourism), and to ensure fish recover. 

The biggest issue is of course, exporting. It doesn't help if we're forced to export to a handful of nations. A diverse market is healthy and moral. But that's easier said then done when you can count with your fingers what nations recognize Meriath. That'll be an issue for the Vaganay Presidency to resolve but for now, jobs and the economy are the focus.

Passing the National Service Act; Protecting Rildanor and the National Revolution.

The National Revolution is under threat at all times. Foreign despots threaten our security and steal our land. Traitors plot in Meriath. Liberals plot abroad to destroy Rildanor and bring cosmopolitan ideals to Rildanor. Communists and the ALA continue their rural guerilla war. This can't be tolerated. The National Revolution will be protected. That is why the National Service Act has been passed. The NSA will protect Rildanor from enemy ideals and ensure prosperity for all Rildanoriens.

For starters, National Service. That will now be mandatory for all Rildanoriens, for up to four years. However, we are not mindless fascists who seek to destroy Rildanor and endlessly militarize. That is why every Rildanorien will have a choice. Military National Service or Civilian National Service. In the military, they'll serve for 4 years in any branch of their choice. Alternatively, they can go for civilian service in which case, they'll be responsible for maintaining and assisting in infrastructure projects, logistics, agriculture, what not. Not everyone is physically capable, which is why the civilian service program is vital to ensure every Rildanorien can do their part.

To ensure we root out cosmopolitan ideals, the threat of liberalism and communism, we will need to ensure the ideals of the National Revolution are safeguarded. As such, every citizen enrolled in National Service, whether military or civilian will need to undergo ideological training. The National Revolution will be protected at all costs. Above all, loyalty to the Movement for National Reconcilation. 

To further ensure that the ALA is brought down, members of the military aspect of National Service will work with the National Reconciliation Guard in tackling the ALA and bringing them down. They will act as a reserve force essentially. For those in the civilian aspect, we'll direct them to the economy. Stable work and good pay will surely be a good motivator for maintaining a job. 

Avoidance of service will be considered a crime, and dodgers may face imprisonment for abandoning their country and the values of the National Revolution. Every member will swear loyalty to Rildanor, the National Revolution, and of course, the Movement for National Reconcilation. The goal of the NSA will be to protect Rildanor from decay, cosmopolitanism, and the enemies of the National Revolution. While foreign despots may paint us as fascistic, we are anything but. We are simply protecting our nation from foreign enemies who will steal more land from us illegally as they did in Meriath.

Housing reform in Meriath; "The right to dignity starts with a house."

Housing often remains a crisis in most developed nations. In Meriath, while it certainly isn't considered the pinnacle of developed nations, it does face a similar challenge. Bombed out houses. That usually isn't ideal for living in. Hence, one of the key reforms promises by the PPS was housing reforms and expanding public housing drastically. While most housing has been rebuilt, it's been in a limbo of whether it's private or public. To that end, the debate ends as the Vaganay Government is looking to make major investments into housing reform.

For starters, all across the country, a full freeze on evictions and rent. No family in Meriath should ever risk losing their home because the greedy want a quick buck in these trying times. Alongside this, the creation of the Autorité du Logement Social (Social Housing Authority) which will be responsible for managing all public housing and work with private housing to ensure adequate maintenance and repairs. Furthermore, the ALS will begin working with public and private construction companies on building up more public housing across the country to curb poverty and encourage more livable housing. 

For existing housing, the government asks the question of this. Is it ethical and moral to own several houses when millions beg for a warm place to stay for the night? To that end, heavy taxes will be placed upon owners of empty homes and abandoned buildings will be purchased by the state, and renovated for public usage. As the saying goes, preventing is better than curing. Meriath holds much potential for tourism. But that also means housing can be bought by foreigners for usage in rare times. This is simply cruel, and unethical for Meriath. As such, a ban will be placed on foreign ownership of housing in the country. To further ensure housing remains apart of the community, community land trusts will be issued across the country.

As new housing is constructed, regulations will demand that any and all housing must align with transportation networks to ensure public transportation is actually useful. As for the homeless, they can immediately register with the ALS for housing, where rent will be subsidized depending on income (no matter what, 25% of the rent will be directly subsidized no matter the income) with higher incomes still receiving generous subsidies, but not as generous as compared to those with lower incomes. The goal isn't to resort to means tested solutions, but to ensure that aid is given where it needed and creating an ethical country. As President Vaganay has said, "The right to dignity starts with a house", and it is something the government is looking to live by, looking to ensure every citizen of Free Rildanor (Meriath) is housed and cared for.

End of the ALA in Rildanor; Low level Partisan fighting comes to an end.

The Armée de Libération Antifasciste (Anti-Fascist Liberation Army), a constant thorn in the side of the National Revolution has finally met it's end. Consisting of cosmopolitans, liberals, communists and socialists, the ALA formed in 5661 and waged a low level guerilla war against the National Revolution. Reduced to largely just the South of Rildanor, the ALA remained a notable nuisance. They lacked the equipment and manpower to organize themselves and force a high intensity conflict, only able to maintain low level guerilla fighting due to a lack of foreign support. However in recent months thanks to the efforts of the National Reconciliation Guard and the Military in curbing the ALA, such as crushing collaborators, dissidents and bringing down ALA hotspots and safe houses, the ALA has gradually been whittled down, to where it is now, nothing.

The National Reconciliation Guard was able to confirm the last ALA insurgents that were coordinated have either fully surrendered or been curbed. Whatever remains are simply roaming guerilla bands that local law enforcement can quickly mop up. The end of the ALA however means a true focus can be maintained on the economy and the National Revolution. Lefrançois has praised the valiant work of the armed forces in curbing these terrorist cells and keeping Rildanor safe from the threat of cosmopolitan communism. While the only major threat to the National Revolution continues to be the traitors in Meriath, for now, it is safeguarded.

With the ability to completely focus on the economy, new issues always arise as our neighbours look at the National Revolution and smack it, with liberal cosmopolitans surrounding the nation. While there is hope in the Movement for National Reconcilation and the National Assembly over establishing cordial relations, it is unlikely given the fact that all our neighbours are committed to cosmopolitan liberalism. Whatever the case, the economy will demand more attention, specifically with concentrated investments into specific interests.

Healthcare reform in Meriath; Fighting one of the 5 Wants.

Healthcare is often a difficult topic in some nations, even when it shouldn't be. For the mainland, the fascists there even recognize that healthcare is a public good. In Meriath, an ethical approach is needed however. Not a socialist solution, or a liberal solution, but an ethical one. Meriath healthcare must be affordable, universal and possible. This is where the National Health and Wellbeing Act comes into play.

For starters, a no brainer. All primary care is entirely universal. Anything else will have capped fees with automatic waivers for low income families. Every citizen and resident in Meriath is entitled to healthcare, regardless of status or income. To manage all healthcare, the National Health Authority (Autorité Nationale de Santé) will be created. The ANS will be responsible for managing healthcare across the entire country. It'll run all public health buildings, set standards across the country and contract providers. Furthermore, the introduction of a national health card. It sounds authoritarian, especially in the context of what's on the mainland, however, it is simply for documentation and ease of convenience. It's a simple ID linked to electronic records. 

For existing health institutions, reforms are there too. Besides equipment modernizations, mobile and maritime teams will be vital to ensuring Meriath thrives. Furthermore, a unique approach will be taken to providing on hand doctors. Besides state sponsored scholarships (despite the PPS and the Free Congress debating waiving tuition fees) for students entering medical science, but the military will also be used with programs to transition military medical to civilian life being offered. One of the biggest aspects of the NHWA was mental health. After weeks of debate, the finalized bill included strong provisions for mental health reform, such as embed councilors in every clinic, school based programs on mental health and the like. 

Another provision was a medical blitz, with vaccination programs across the country, and hygiene programs. These reforms will be vital to building up the wellbeing of Meriath.

Investments into Rildanorien lumber; Developing the lumber industry for Rildanor.

The economy of Rildanor has a handful of valuable resources. Lithium, uranium, lumber and agriculture. As allies from abroad provide investments into Rildanor, the economy will need more attention given to it. While Lithium and Uranium take time, lumber is fairly easy and quick to provide jobs and economic stability. As such, the MRN government has looked to provide immense investments and development (alongside using aid from national allies) to develop the lumber industry en masse.

For starters, the Autorité Forestière Nationale (National Forest Authority) has been created, which will manage all forests across the country, oversee quotas, regulate harvesting and manage lumber operations. The AFN will be invaluable to protecting the forests of Rildanor against cosmopolitan pollution, and ensure that the national economy arrived for the goals of the National Revolution. Furthermore, regulations on operations. Independent loggers, mills and transportation will be folded into Lumber Syndicates, which will be responsible for replacing decadent socialist unions and liberal exploitative private guilds. Wages, safety standards and regulations will be negotiated between Lumber Syndicates, the State and the system of corporatist bargaining.

Secondly, laying out economic goals. Beyond providing jobs and economic growth, goals are needed. Concrete ones. For starters, domestic concerns come first. Lumber must meet national housing, infrastructure and construction (civilian and military) needs first and foremost before being exported. Alongside this, the growth of sub industries will be encouraged such as paper, furniture, prefabricated housing, etc etc. 

But the environment cannot be damaged. Cosmopolitans want to bring down Rildanor and harm our environment. A one tree fell, two trees planted policy will be enacted.we must ensure that this industry is sustainable and safeguarded from foreign liberals who seek to destroy our environment. Plus, it also ensures that we have an industry to last forever. While communists and cosmopolitans scheme against the National Revolution, the Movement for National Reconcilation will ensure that the National Revolution thrives and that Rildanor thrives against traitors and secessionists.

Labour Reform in Meriath; Securing the rights of the working class.

It should come as little surprise that a socialist party cares about the working class. So, it was expected that the Vaganay Government would enact labour reforms. It was one promise from the government after all. With the Free Congress passing the "Labour Relations Act", new labour laws have been enacted across the entire economy.

For starters, creating an ethical economy that's fair. And a fair economy means an economy where everyone can survive. As such, minimum wage will be tied to a living wage, adjusted annually to inflation. For small businesses, they'll receive compensation in tax breaks to accommodate the living wage. Alongside this, standardizing the world week, ensuring overtime protections, sick pay, mandatory rest days, and ensuring workplace safety. Alongside this, the biggest aspect of the Labour Relations Act is the right to unionize in all sectors of the economy. Unions won't be mandatory, but they will be protected and allowed to form.

Next, enacting fair measures in the economy. For starters, medium and large firms will be required to have worker representation on boards. Only 1-2 seats worth of representation. The PPS are ethical socialists, not communists. Alongside this, training and education programs. The state will start working with the private market to ensure that every worker can achieve proper training and a proper education. Private and public partnerships will occur to ensure workers are up skilled for the blue economy, healthcare, housing and eventually tourism. Alongside this, profit sharing. The state won't force it. That isn't good for an ethical economy that works for all. But for companies that do share profits? They'll receive generous tax breaks and even subsidies.

These aren't major reforms, but with elections in 2 years, there isn't major stuff you can do. Whatever the case, the PPS has looked to continue supporting labour reform and we can expect a focus on tourism next to continue building up the economy and diversify it to prevent over reliance on the blue economy. But for now, the workers of Meriath can take pride and joy in new rights whilst the middle class and businesses can take joy in new offers of subsidies and tax breaks.

Repurposing the Trans-Seleyan Railway for the National Revolution; A focus on infrastructure and economics.

The Trans-Seleyan Railway. The pinnacle of cosmopolitan, liberal, decadence. Spanning across all of Seleya, it serves as a reminder that only Rildanor is free from cosmopolitan imperialism. Normally, it would be sound to simply destroy the railway. However, why break when we can repurpose? As such, the MRN has announced that the Trans-Seleyan Railway will be entirely nationalized, placed under direct state control and all traffic into and out of Rildanor will be strictly controlled. Unless authorized by the Central Government. Alongside this, practical benefits. Even if the railway is tainted, it can be used for the National Revolution. The railway will be expanded into rural communities and towards urban areas. The goal will be to provide practical benefits for Rildanoriens. Sure, foreign trade is restricted due to being surrounded by cosmopolitan threats, but it doesn't mean we can have internal trade. 

The National Reconcilation Work Program has been mobilized to begin working on establishing railroads and expanding the railway across Rildanor. Providing more avenues of internal trade will ensure that all of Rildanor thrives, not just liberal elites. Alongside that, it'll encourage development in rural sectors and ensure all of Rildanor is united, politically and economically. Plus, it serves as a benefit for leisure. Easier travel for Rildanoriens. A win win. As the country side moves on from the ALA insurgency, it's time to invest heavily into rural Rildanor and ensure the heart of Rildanor thrives.

In the meantime, Lefrançois has announced a focus on the economy with the Modern Economy Plan, pledging to double incomes by 5680, connect all of Rildanor together, drastically expand infrastructure, and ensure that the National Revolution thrives alongside Rildanoriens. The MEP will also include provisions for modernizing the economy, expanding industries, and developing the social sector to ensure that no Rildanorien starves unlike what was seen with the liberal neglect in the 50s and socialist chaos.

PPS prevails for a second term in Meriath; Countering the five wants.

Elections have come about and it seems the Socialist People's Party has been elected for a second term with Remy Clair being elected president. As the Vaganay Government steps down, the people have chosen to trust the socialists to another six year term. Clair has already made vast promises, looking to counter the "'Five Wants" that are, idleness, disease, hunger, shelter, and splendor. As such, we can expect major reforms to job programs, continues health reforms, continued housing expansions, ensuring Rildanoriens have more money to take home, and ensuring starvation and hunger are curbed drastically.

In terms of foreign policy, Clair has made a strong point to criticize Vascania for recognizing the MRN and aligning with them, claiming that "fascists fall from the same tree, no matter their location". While no military reforms are expected, it is a possibility should the Clair Government feel that Egelian protection isn't enough. Whatever the case, we can continue to expect this term to focus on continued domestic developments and improving the lives of all those on the island. Even with undesirable foreign circumstances arising.

Despite Clair and the PPS winning the presidency, their majority in the Free Congress has been cut down quite significantly the Centrist Party of Free Rildanor and the New Conservative Party, which means that major legislation will need to be negotiated with other parties if the PPS faces defections. Whatever the case, another 6 years of socialism will define Meriath.

Clovis Solé inaugurated as President of the National Republic; Promises to continue the Modern Economy Plan and reforms ranging from economic to foreign.

The MRN Party Congress has convened last month to nominate a new President of the National Republic, and the Party Congress has chosen to elect Clovis Solé. Solé has promised vast reforms to Rildanor, looking to enact economic reforms, continue the MEP, domestic reforms, and foreign reforms. Forming a cabinet of various reformists such as Lucas Lajoie, Fabrice Pascal, David Astier, Néo Auch and among others. The biggest aspect will be on reforming the National Revolution, and particularly focusing on economic reform and growth. 

So far, the reforms have not been specified but Solé has assured the public that these reforms will safeguard the National Revolution and ensure that it thrives. Besides continuing the MEP, a particular focus has been emphasized on foreign affairs reforms, looking to normalize Rildanor in its current state, especially in light of various nations recognizing the secessionist state of Meriath. The New Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fabrice Pascal has shown great interest in repairing the reputation that Rildanor holds in the world and normalize relations. How far this will go is yet to be seen, but the National Revolution demands progress and sacrifice. The focus on the economy however will likely go hand in hand with foreign reforms, as the MEP will be enacted under a reformist government. 

Whatever the case, reforms will be coming to ensure that the National Revolution thrives. The extent of these reforms is yet to be known but all of Rildanor will benefit from these reforms, whether domestic, economic or foreign. With the belief that the status quo will doom Rildanor, the National Revolution must evolve to survive. The first reforms likely to come will be to the economy, foreign affairs, and then domestic reforms.
